Here are some of the snide comments I have received and my answers to them:
"STOP losing weight! You're getting too skinny!" "NO!!"
"I guess I'm the fat friend in the group now." "You don't have to be any friend in the group now."
"I can see your face now since all that blubber and chub is gone." "Stop paying so much attention to me. Good day."
"I've lost X amount of pounds on my own." "Oh...really? Well I have a little Fairy Godmother who pops out and slaps food out of my hand. I guess I didn't do it on my own..."
"WLS is the easy way out. " "It sure was! You jealous?"
As you can see, I'm a bit sarcastic.

kwindham got a reaction from slojo in Company In The Hospital?Dana, yes they gave me something for the nausea, I was maxed out on Zofran and Phenergan, plus they put the patch on me before surgery to help prevent the nausea. im sure it helped, it just didn't seem like it at the time. I was miserable! I have to say though, that was the only time I ever wondered, why did I do this to myself?! Other than soreness and minimal pain after 24 hours, it has pretty much been smooth sailing. If I never lost another pound, I would still have this surgery 100X over for the results I have gotten in just a little over 4 months. It is totally worth 24 hours of pure misery! Good Luck!!!

kwindham reacted to sassypants in Smoking After SurgeryNo this isn’t my question I wouldn’t ask a question about smoking I spoke to my consultants about it and I have all the info with no scaremongering about it so I am good thanks.
I am not bashing op at all just reading several smoking threads it gets annoying and builds up till i feel the need to say something.its no wonder people freak out when they smoke given what they read being told they wont heal and get ulcers it’s the same with coffee drinkers they all post and freak out when they drink it or want too.
Not everyone cheats no I know this but drinking isn’t healthy either no one bashes people for that but smokers oh my god!
Telling someone they should second guess having the surgery because they smoked a cigarette is really bad in my opinion telling them basically they shouldn’t have bothered to get it if they smoke disgusts me frankly.
This isn’t the only thread things like this have been said to smokers and no one says anything about it the smoker/s back down and say yes yes you are right well no no you are not!
You can say you don’t agree in a nicer way without chastising the person and saying they never should have got the op its belittling in my honest opinion.
This is a weightloss tool let people deal with that/ get a handle on that and how we eat and drink now before they choose to stop doing other things.
This is a hard enough process as it is there is no need to make people feel guilty/bad whatever for things they do.
I feel the same way when people post nasty comments to others who eat or drink something they shouldn’t, there is no need to judge people to that degree.

kwindham got a reaction from iggychic in Company In The Hospital? My husband was halfway around the world working when I had my surgery, but my parents were there during and after the surgery. My brother came and stayed the night that night when my parents left. Support is extremely important. I was in pain and the nausea was horrendous! I never vomited, just constant terrible heaving and nausea. It was very nice that there was someone there just to hand me a cold cloth to lay over my neck and wipe my mouth, call for the nurse if needed, cheer me on when it was time to walk when all I wanted to do was sleep. You really should consider having someone there before, during, and after the procedure. Before the procedure you will need the emotional support because its possible you will be nervous.

kwindham reacted to Butterthebean in What Was Your Longest Stall/or Just 1-2 Lb Loss During Wt Loss PhaseThat is truly a long stall for this point in your journey. There is a link in my sig. If you read down toward the end it has some tips for breaking a genuine stall, which you seem to be in. But clearly, you need to change something. Get someone to review what your eating, and up (or start) your exercise.
Best of luck.

kwindham reacted to ebthompson2010 in Smoking After SurgeryI'm 3 wks post op and still smoking 10 cigs a day.... I have tried so hard to quit but when I do all I want to do is graze eat. So for now I'll smoke and as soon as I can get this eating and working out thing AND my emotional struggles with this surgery under control I will try to quit again. I can only handle one thing at a time. I am only human. But I am glad to hear that I shouldn't fall over dead from smoking post op. As much as I am afraid to die, you can see that I am also terribly addicted to smoking. I acknowledge this and I know that is the first step to stopping. I am also tired of seeing people bash others for something they are struggling with. We are all different people with different emotional and physical battles.

kwindham reacted to sassypants in Smoking After SurgeryFor all the smokers out there I am gonna say something on our behalf.
We the bad bad naughty smokers bite our tongues on this subject a lot never daring to say they still do because we get told off any time its brought up or we admit we smoke still.
We get told we never should have got the op if we are just gonna keep on smoking.
Well to be frank its utterly annoying to constantly hear!
People cheat all the time on the new healthy life people keep going on about and bashing smokers with.
they drink coffee/tea/soda eat candy/ice cream/chips/fast food/slider food, they don’t work out they don’t take meds they drink alcohol and the list goes on and on!
But everyone comes down on smokers like we are the antichrist for daring to not give up or if they do for picking the habit back up.
I didn’t have my sleeve to stop smoking I had my sleeve for my weight problems that were effecting my health, it has nothing to do with me smoking my sleeve was not because I wanted to become a vegan health nut who was a purest and only lived a green healthy life.
I had my sleeve like pretty much everyone else as a tool for weightloss.
I was never told to stop and still aint now.
You don’t know a persons smoking habits it could be 1 a day or 500 you take in more crap form car pollution a day than you do if you smoked 1 cigarette a day so anyone jogging out there in the road suck up a nice lung full of smog while you do it.
I smoke roughly 20 a day out of anyone’s interest with an extra filter tip I add on and the lightest you can smoke 1mg of tar 0.1mg of nicotine and 1mg carbon monoxide in each cigarette.
Yes I am annoyed and no I am not feeling guilt for smoking if I did I would never post I do smoke I am actually smoking while I type this!
I am annoyed the smokers are jumped on by everyone but other smokers (and I don’t mean ex smokers) and spoken to how they are some times by some people.
This isn’t a quit smoking forum or an antismoking forum give it a rest!

kwindham got a reaction from Brandy78 in Smoking After SurgeryI never quit before surgery but cut way back on the amount. My surgeon fussed a bit but I told him that I could not give up 2 things at once, food and cigs, unless he wanted a mental case on his hands. I was not being overly dramatic, I am an anxious person and have the occasional panic attacks to where I think I am literally dying. I tried chantix, had an allergic reaction to it so thats a no go. It also made me crave the strangest things. Anyway, I do intend to completely quit by one year post op, but not because a doc says to, because I want to. Good luck to you!

kwindham reacted to gmanbat in Amusement Parks RideThis time last year I could not get into the rides. Now I slip right in and can actually breathe!. That was one of my main goals as well.
I am 9 pounds to target weight. I went from a tight XXXLT shirt to a large.
My new goal is to crank up the exercise and bring out those long buried muscles.
I want to look good on a beach without a shirt. I am not worried about the scars. Only the most knowledgeable will recognize them as operation scars. The rest will think I'm a street fighter.

kwindham reacted to COsleeveDude in Is Keeping The Secret Possible? What I find most interesting about this thread is how many have this idea that lying is a black and white issue: that lying is somehow bad and telling the truth is somehow good.
If someone asks how you lost the weight and you don't admit to the surgery, are you lying? Yes. You chose to answer with a lie.
If I won the lottery and someone asked how I got rich, and I said hard work and investing...you get the point.
But so what? Own your lie. Be proud of it, lying is a skill that everyone should practice. Our whole culture is predicated on dishonesty as a tool for good. Marketing drives the whole economy. Sell the pros, only admit to the cons if you're required by law.
People who ask personal questions deserve whatever answer you choose to give them. It would be like if someone asks your age, or salary, or your sexual orientation, or YOUR WEIGHT. It's none of their business, but you're trapped into pleading the fizifth OR defending yourself with a lie of omission.
Go ahead, youre not under oath. No one is sending you to hell or bed without supper.
That's the point I feel a few of people were trying to make earlier. Don't lie to yourself about the fact that youre lying. But don't feel bad about lying, it's your right as an American.

kwindham got a reaction from Newbeginning in Is Keeping The Secret Possible? To me its not only what others think, I just think my health is none of there business! From preop to 3 weeks post op my hubby was in Saudi. Before surgery he tried to talk me into post;poning until he was home saying You will not be able to do this alone without help. You will need help etc. After a while he saw my point and relented. I have support from my mom, she had bypass 23 years ago and I knew my hubby (no matter how hard he tried) would not understand how I anticipated feeling after surgery (head hunger, etc) He is a 30 in the waste, same size as my teenage boys, and has never been overweight in his life. He eats only to survive, he doesn't sit down to eat to enjoy food, he eats when he is hungry and stops when he is full. He has never overeat to my knowledge and to him eating is something that is required to survive. His entire family is slender whereas my whole family is either very overweight or obese. I dont think he can REALLY understand why everyone is not like him. He doesn't get that people eat to be entertained, feel better emotionally, or just because it taste so durn good! Or whatever reason we all have for overeating for years. I am def not blasting him because he does try to understand, I just dont think he is really capable of COMPLETELY understanding because of our different backgrounds and habits. There are still times I have to catch myself from telling my kids, "clean your plate, dont waste that food"! Old habits die hard but I do not want my kids to grow up obese.
On the flip side, I knew I would have support from my parents and baby brother. my family has battled obesity my whole life! At the time of surgery my mom had just had total hip replacement 4 weeks previously, but still she followed me around the halls after surgery to do my required postop walking using a walker, when I would fall asleep walking she would pat my face and say wake up you gotta walk. Her and my dad stayed at the hosp the whole day until baby brother got off work to come stay with me. He took off for 3 days to stay the night at hospital and bring me home and stay with me at home for a couple days until I was sure I could get around alone.
My point is, we all really need some type of support, but it doesnt really matter where it comes from as long as they understand how hard this can be. I have never regretted the vsg, but it isn't always an easy journey. Sometimes you feel like an infant learning how to eat, what works, what doesn't, etc, finding your limitations, figthting head hunger, and realizing you CANNOT have a cheat meal anymore. its not like a diet when you could take a day off and go to the buffet and pig out. Its simply not possible unless you enjoy pain and vomiting.
I stand by my decision to keep my surgery to myself. This journey can be emotionally draining at times and I simply dont need negativity in my life from people who choose to sugarrcoat sarcasm. It is my journey and I choose to surround myself with people who are genuinly proud for me and say to heck with the others.

kwindham reacted to Lissa in Warning! Angry And Discouraged(((Kiki))) Don't give up quite yet. Your body is going to shock the heck out of you in a few days. Everyone experiences stalls, especially when they first start exercising. Add to that that this is a weight where your body was comfortable before and you've got the makings of a grand old stall! Ease up on the workouts a little bit and add a little food to your daily routine for a few days. I'm betting your stall will break and in a BIG way. I lost my first pants size during a stall. One day they fit fine and the next day I walked out of them, literally.
Lastly, all that loss has freed up a ton of hormones into your system. You are going to experience wild mood swings and the strangest thoughts. I seriously considered swallowing the lid to a Water bottle one morning...just to see if I could. BTW, I don't advise it...it was just a stray thought that went through my head! LOL Once my hormones calmed down, then the thought process did as well.
18 pounds in a month is fantastic. Add in the two pounds this month and you've lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months! Tell me when you could do that before the sleeve!
I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes working out actually produces endorphins that will help you get through being so frustrated. I'm addicted to exercise these days.
Good luck!!

kwindham reacted to LindaS in Most Humiliating Fat MomentThe one that stands out in my mind the most isn't really mine, but it was one of the most potent inspirations for me to get my own weight under control before it became too much.
My dad was over 400 pounds most of my life. In the last two years of his life, he was in and out of the hospital. Because of his weight, he put an extra burden on already overworked nurses, and they did not always respond well. Many were downright rude because of it.
For instance, routine procedures required several nurses because of his size. Once when I was visiting, a nurse yelled at me because I refused to help turn him over. It was my dad, and he wasn't dressed under the blankets, and there was no way I was going to put myself in a position to see his privates.
One of the most humiliating for me (and I wasn't there to see it) was in the days just before my dad died, an ambulance was called to my parents house. My dad was very ill, and the ambulance crew couldn't get him out of the house. They had to call volunteer firefighters in to help get him out of the house and in the ambulance.
It took 10 people to slide my dad along on some sort of tarp out of the house and into the ambulance. My dad was nude when this happened.
It hurts me to imagine someone I really respected being reduced to that kind of humiliation. It also upset me because his weight was such a huge barrier to him getting timely treatment for a life-threatening problem.
I get angry sometimes because I wish my dad had done more about his weight, so he would still be here with me. He planned for his death almost my entire life because he was well aware his size would limit his lifespan. I wish he'd planned for living.

kwindham got a reaction from gloriann in Is Keeping The Secret Possible?I told my 2 Bfs, parents, baby brother, and hubby. I did not tell my oldest brother or my teenage boys. Brothers wife is a ***** and he would tell her, and my oldest son (16 going on 30~thinks he know eveything) has no concept of social boundries so I told neither of my boys. Its no secret I have had twice yearly scopes for bleeding ulcers, so the few that asked, such as my brother I told I was getting those ulcers fixed by a surgeon. Obviously I would be on liquids mushies etc after having ulcers repaired. The other general people that I see in town etc who comment I just say I have been on a diet with high Protein limited calories etc under the care of a nutritionist. I feel it is NOBODY'S business what youdo with your body. yes there are a few out there that would be honestly proud for you, but mostly people are just cruel, esp in a small town like mine! They will say oh she took the easy way out, which is totally not true but hurtful all the same. At my preop seminar my surgeon told a story of a man that had vsg and came back to a seminar after the surgery and said this is not the easy way to lose, it is the hard way! My surgeon stressed this to us, the VSG doesn't make it easy, it just makes it possible!
just my 2 cents FWIW. But I think you should tell only who you are comfortable telling. I dont like lying either, esp to my brother, butI come first in this battle, no one else!

kwindham reacted to Tif 2.0 in I'm In ShockOn August 19, 2011 I went in for my consultation with my surgeon. I weighed 319 lbs. I don't let people know that number. Even my husband doesn't know. I had to complete a 6 month medically supervised diet. I lost 33 lbs. I had my surgery on January 27, 2012. I celebrated my 6 month surgiversary last week and I'm 2.5 weeks from 1 year from my consult.
This morning I got on the scale and it read 219.0.
100 lbs gone! I lost 33 lbs pre-op and I've lost 67 lbs since surgery. In this last 6 months and 1 week, I've had 2 month long stalls where I vacillated between the same 2 lbs for 4 weeks. I'm a slower loser than some, but it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.
Now onto my next 20 so I can be below 200 lbs. I've GOT this!

kwindham reacted to Ready4success in Need Opinions On Non Wls Related IssueI think this statement says it all. Make an influence on the one person that can still benefit, your son. Your husband went from his momma's house to yours (even though he had his own place, it belonged to his mother), your step-daughter went from her mom's house to her grandma's house, now the grandson is being raised by the grandma. There is a pattern that was in place long before you came into the picture. Your MIL is an enabler. Don't become one too. Take care of your son, and mold him into an independent and responsible person. My concern is that he will be influenced by your husband and think that is how a man handles responsibility, by passing it on to his momma.
Don't worry about the 21year old, she's grown, and don't worry about the grandson, because great grandma (the enabler) will make sure he's well taken care of, like she did with your husband before you came along. I think you can have a decent relationship with your step-daughter and your grandson, but just accept it as it is.
