JamalR93 got a reaction from Drrickey in Nervousness Before SurgeryTotally normal to feel nervous, you're not alone. I’m pre-op too, and the closer it gets, the more my mind spirals sometimes. Talking it out here really helps. You’ve worked hard for this, trust the process.

JamalR93 got a reaction from June66 in Failing at everythingI completely understand how overwhelming and frustrating this sounds! I went through something similar after my own surgery, and the dietary challenges can feel absolutely maddening.
First, it's awesome that you're still killing it with weight loss despite all these complications. That's genuinely impressive, especially given how many obstacles you're facing. The food intolerances you're describing sound incredibly challenging - becoming sensitive to sugars, proteins, and experiencing such intense nausea must be so difficult.
Have you spoken with a nutritionist who specializes in post-surgical dietary support? They might help you develop some alternative protein strategies that work with your specific intolerances. I know when I was struggling, finding specialized support made a huge difference.
For the water intake, 40-48 oz isn't terrible, but I get why you're worried. Maybe try smaller, more frequent sips throughout the day instead of trying to drink larger amounts? And definitely keep checking in with your medical team about your hydration and nutrition.
The mental aspect of food aversion is real and valid. It sounds like your body is going through significant adjustments, and it's okay to be patient with yourself. Some days will be harder than others, but you're clearly committed to your health journey.
Hang in there - this challenging phase won't last forever. Keep communicating with your medical team and don't be afraid to ask for help or alternative solutions. You've got this!

JamalR93 reacted to Dchonlee in My doctor said one thing???So my doctor told me that I would stop at 150pounds being that my starting weight was 217. I am now 140 pounds while I’m not complaining. I’m praying that I don’t go any lower. I hope all is well with everyone.

I tried Ozempic, but since I already had IBS, it was horrible for me. I was nauseated 100% of the time, no matter what I did or did not eat. It also did not affect my a1c at all, so I switched to a different med. just remember that if one medication doesn’t work, there are others out there.

I originally lost one hundred pounds with a gastric sleeve. I maintained it for eight years and then over the last three I had a fifty pound creep. I went on Wegovy last October and have lost forty of the fifty. I just moved up to the highest dose this week as I want to nudge the last ten.
When I first started Wegovy, I felt ill the first two days after taking it. Nausea, headache, tiredness. All of that has faded, except mild nausea occasionally and constipation. I take MiraLAX for the constipation.

JamalR93 reacted to FifiLux in Two years since sleeveLast week I had the endoscopic procedure to remove two clips, which when gone showed that the hole/leak was still there on my stomach. I now have a pigtail drain put in to give time to heal and then if it does not move itself, it will be removed in six months. No open or revision surgery required
I was allowed home the following day and have just been resting since as I have been totally and utterly exhausted, to the point I was beginning to wonder if I was still unwell. I am due a follow up consultation on Wednesday where I am sure I will be told that all is now good as I had a blood test today that shows my white blood cell count is in the positive again and my CRP level is back down to under 2 (from 91). I also had a CT scan this evening so will get that result at the consult.
I still don't have much of an appetite, and I had to have soft foods the last week, so have mostly been living on yogurts or protein mousses and down almost 5kg since this all started a month ago but I am sure I will put that back on once I get back into a routine again of work, gym, social life

JamalR93 got a reaction from FifiLux in Two years since sleeveThat’s a lot to deal with, thanks for keeping us updated. Have you had the procedure yet, or is it still coming up? Really hope everything goes smoothly and that you're starting to feel better soon.

For diabetes, my insurance paid for my GLP-1, but since surgery, I haven't had to take any insulin or any of my other diabetic meds, I'm in remission. Taking a GLP-1 for weight loss is short lived. Once you stop taking it, the hunger returns and your body will bounce back. That's my experience anyway.

JamalR93 got a reaction from BlondePatriotInCDA in Did anyone else feel weird buying smaller clothes?I hear you, feels like we just swap one struggle for another. You're not alone in this.
-
I'm still finding it difficult because those "important bits" have changed now (besides the normal decency ones) because now instead of trying to cover the fat, I've exchanged that for loose skin covering up! I refuse to show my arms, stomach and legs now..so I've just traded one embarrassment for another. ?

JamalR93 reacted to ms.sss in Did anyone else feel weird buying smaller clothes?something to say about "vanity sizing": in my late teen, early twenties, i weighed about 115-120, and the clothes i bought were a consistent size 6.
today im around 105 lbs and double zeroes are often times pretty loose.
there is no "standard" for clothing size labels, which is unfortunate. it really varies greatly from brand to brand.
best way to keep actual track is to take your body measurements yourself. i wish i took body measurements when i was a young thing so that i would have had some data to compare with.
in any case, the message im trying to convey here is that your progress cant be reliably measured based on clothing sizes that you buy. its all about the tape (i.e., measuring tape), baby.
good luck! ❤️

I think the smaller sizes didn’t weird me out too much because I lost weight slowly. I’ve noticed the vanity sizing affecting more clothes that are less well made (based on thrift store finds). I instead went down a rabbit hole about finding styles that look good on me. That one is still a work in progress. I used to pick clothes because it “covered the important bits.” Finding flattering styles is tricky! -
The shoe size really surprised me, all my old shoes flop around on my feet now ? cute shoes too!
Trust me don't wear them, I not realizing this was a thing wore my most comfy shoes (Sketchers sherpa lined clogs) on a trip and I ended up with major blisters just walking in the airport! 3 pairs of socks and bandaids and hobbling along the entire trip. Take it from me - just donate them and buy some new cute shoes!
-
I felt that too, trying on smaller clothes was exciting, but also kind of surreal. It’s like, “Wait, is this actually my size now?” Definitely took some getting used to.
-
I was walking just today, and walked right out of my shoes....I bought them just before surgery.....I investigated and found that my feet are actually smaller!! Who knew?
-
I still find it odd. I am a smaller size now than I have ever been in my life and I'm only 8 months post op so (hopefully) will lose more.
Even my bike helmet is too big now and I have to get a new one! I never expected to be a size 14

JamalR93 got a reaction from Spinoza in 3yrs post of with 80lbs still to lose; need help. That sounds tough especially when you're already doing all the right things. I'm still pre-op but hearing your story reminds me just how complex this journey really is. Sometimes the body just hits a wall no matter how clean we eat or how much we move. Hoping things shift soon for you and wishing you the best with IVF too.
