AmyB2006 reacted to Orinskye in StrugglingFor myself: routine
im a teacher so my routine is pretty much set. I have never really been a foodie and I am fine eating the same thing every day….so….I have the same thing for lunch every day (P3 pack and a Greek yogurt). By eating the same stuff every day I am sure to get in my allotted protein (I’m actually at a lower level of protein than the normal Bariatric patient because of my kidneys).
i have my set recipes that I make for dinner but the air fryer is my friend and I usually just eat two chicken wings, some cheese, and some fruit or veggies. If it’s not chicken wings I make sure my plate is well balanced and small.
exercise: I am terrible and don’t really do this. I don’t because I am on my feet all day long walking and get 10k steps easy, then also come home and take the dog for a walk. And once a week on my “lazy” days I take my kids to the harbor and we walk a couple miles there too. So again, walking is my routine. It’s what I do every day and I don’t need it think about it anymore.
Water: I have one of those water bottles with times on it. I drink one bottle before lunch. One bottle after lunch. That is 64 ozs of water. As long as I keep to my routine of finishing the bottle it works.
all these things have evolved over time. It didn’t start out like that and I had to push myself to remember stuff and found myself frazzled with all the stuff to do.
BUT: I’m on less medications now than I was before and I take them first thing in the AM. Calcium chewy bite I eat after school because it’s a time between meals.
If you stay consistent it will eventually become a routine and second nature.
(I am about 10 months out from surgery and down to 185pounds. My highest was 330 pounds)

AmyB2006 reacted to GradyCat in StrugglingDon't worry about getting it perfect, just do the best you can at most of it, like MiniDude said 80%. I never got three meals in a day. I'm not that kind of a girl. I'll get two meals in and two snacks but not an actual third meal. The exercise is beneficial for your mental health as well as physical health, but if you had to slack on one, this one would be the best to slack on. PRotein is easy to get in with protein shakes, protein bars, and protein-heavy foods. The 64 oz of water a day takes some getting used to, but once you reach that level it's easy to maintain. Just sip, sip, sip all day long, constantly and consistently. And stuff like broth and sugar free popsicles counts as water/liquids. You can do it, it just takes practice. None of us did it magically overnight.

AmyB2006 reacted to Smanky in StrugglingI'm about 3.5 months out, and have always struggled to eat the amounts of food that my dietician wants me to aim for. It is getting better, though! I'm almost up to a whole cup, which felt impossible even a couple of weeks ago.
My priorities are protein, vitamins and water, and I manage to double up on the protein and water by drinking protein-water which gives me my baseline 60g of protein each day. That frees me up to add extra protein via food and protein-fortified soy milk, without me feeling like I'm a bloated sack all day. I take all my supplements before bed once I know I'm finished my daily water intake.
I try to eat nutritious meals three times a day with varying degrees of success in terms of quantity. I don't beat myself up about it if I don't manage a lot, and neither does my dietician. I'm getting my protein, water, and supplements in and that's the most important thing.
Exercise I do every afternoon in the form of a good walk. Pop my headphones on and out I go. I enjoy this chance to unwind the mind.
Ultimately, don't beat yourself up! I don't think any of us crack on out the gate with perfection. The post-op life has goals and milestones, and so long as you're trying your best, things will improve and click into place.
Heartily recommend the protein water though. Two birds with one stone has definitely made it all a bit easier!

AmyB2006 got a reaction from LilaNicole20 in November Surgery Buddies!!!Hi! How are the people feeling that have had their surgeries already?? I had mine on the 1st. Feeling pretty good overall. Came home yesterday. Working on getting my fluids in and I’ve done one protein drink so far. Walked this morning. Will walk again in a little bit.
Anybody having issues or problems? -
AmyB2006 got a reaction from summerseeker in November Surgery Buddies!!!It amazes me the different diets surgeons put you on. Mine had me on high protein very low carbs. Absolutely no fruit. Yours looks like barely any protein. So strange but I guess they have their reasons. -
AmyB2006 reacted to Lem32 in November Surgery Buddies!!!Hey all my surgery date was moved up from December 8th to November 17th. -

AmyB2006 reacted to SparklesE in November Surgery Buddies!!!I'm feeling better with each passing day. Surgery was on the 1st, I was released the next morning. Day 3, my largest incision is still pretty sensitive. I cannot cough to clear my throat or else I'm in a good amount of pain. It feels like I'm going to rupture my incision. ? I can swallow Tylenol capsules and liquids with little-to-no issue. I am on a 7 day clear liquid diet post-op. At my one week check-up next week I will be able to transition to full liquids including protein shakes and malt-o-meal/grits (which I'm really looking forward to!!?). Right now, it's just apple and cranberry juice, water, tea, broth, and sugar free jello. I've also been walking around and up and down stairs. There is minor pain when ambulating, but it's tolerable. I showered the first day home with no issues. I would say so far so good! ?

AmyB2006 reacted to Breanne (w 2 pups) in Any October 2021 Surgeries?Wear a dress to go home in. The pressure of pants, even loose pants bc of the waistband.
I would recommend bringing earplugs and an eye mask. You might not be in a private room. I forgot these bc I was spoiled from my previous surgery. -
AmyB2006 reacted to hesco0 in Any October 2021 Surgeries? You don’t need anything as they’ll provide you with everything except for a cpap machine if your using one. Depending on your procedure your doing you may stay a night or two. I was brought in on the 27, but I had a DS with a sleeve revision so my stay is still going. I’m having trouble with the phase 1 with drinking I can’t drink it down. My doctor said my procedure was pretty smooth but extensive. And he said it’ll take some time to get to regular and he said I should be ok to head out tomorrow. He said if I only had the DS I should have been good earlier today. Wishing you good luck ? -
AmyB2006 reacted to ShoppGirl in Any October 2021 Surgeries? My surgery was in March but I may be able to help. I packed toiletries but I wasn’t allowed to shower till the third day. I only ended up staying one night so I didn’t need those. I wore the same comfy clothes home that I wore to the hospital (with fresh undergarments). I was glad I had an extra long charging cable for my iPad and phone. I used the iPad because I brought it but would’ve been fine with just my phone since I slept most of the time. I did also Use my Bluetooth earbuds to listen to NetFlix at night so it would block out some of the noise since I am a super light sleeper. I was also glad someone here told me to bring pajama pants to wear while walking The halls. That way I didn’t have to deal with a robe over all the tubes and wires but my bottom was covered. Other than that they really do provide you with everything you need. They have to take your bag in preop and keep track of during surgery and until they find a room for you so try not to overpack. I brought a really small duffel I had from when I actually went to the gym and they said thank you for packing light. Ooh and you may want to just leave your jewelry at home. They make you take it off and they ask that you not bring valuables.

AmyB2006 got a reaction from summerseeker in November Surgery Buddies!!!It was still 150/90 but he cleared me. So I guess that’s all that matters. -
AmyB2006 got a reaction from summerseeker in November Surgery Buddies!!!So I went for my pre op clearance with the primary. My bp was 180/90! It’s never that high. I’ve been borderline HBP for a while but it’s usually 130/80-140/80. So now he put me on a medication and I have to go back tomorrow to check it again. If it isn’t in the normal range I won’t get cleared for surgery. ?

AmyB2006 reacted to Shouldhaveknown in Any October 2021 Surgeries?Hi Folks!
Today I am 5 days post op (Sleeve on 10/1). I was discharged Sunday night, reluctantly, but discharged I was. Fluid intake was and still has been difficult. While my abdominal area heals and my stomach inflammation goes down, introducing liquid is painful. When I say it’s a JOB to meet the 60g Protein/64oz Fluids goal I’m not lyin! Where’s my check!?!? Lol
The gas has finally started moving and thank the lord I managed a poop ??♀️ Today. Everyday gets a little easier. The more I get up and move the more I see improvements. I don’t have a ton of energy yet, but I know it’ll come.
Those prepping or you fortunate ones with very little prep, keep your head in the game. Nerves are normal and this is about taking care of YOU. Sure, there will be moments when you wonder “what in the **** did I do!?!”, but it’s a scattered thought and won’t stick around.
I was a nervous comedian down to the last drop of happy juice that knocked me out. I had the entire OR Prep floor rolling. My husband kept telling me to shut up because me on drugs is NSFW. ???
Anyway … good luck. And quick question. Anyone else find it easier to sleep sitting up post op? If so, how long did it last?
Picture of 3 of my 4 pups at my side since I got home.
