Because your need for Protein is too high to waste space on veggies.
I got around this by making ranch dip out of low fat Greek yogurt & adding more Protein powder to. It.

pretty-pink reacted to MinaT in Things You Can Never Have Again With Sleeve :(I am 3 months out and have zero problems with lettuce. I see no reason in drinking pop whatsoever, even though others do it. I was told the carbonation does expand your stomach (which it does while you are drinking it) whether or not it stretches is a highly debated issue on VSG.
There are those of us that would rather not take the chance. Should you get the sleeve and start eating candy bars, I would say the answer is NO, do people do it, I am sure they do. I have read people eating potato chips as early as a week out.
If you are going to go back to your old way of eating after surgery, then surgery should put off until you have enough psychological counseling to change the emotional eating issues, and get proper nutritional counseling to see the hows and why on how you gained so weight in the first place and realize that this is something you need to do for life.
The sleeve is for you if you want to make lifestyle changes. Can you gain the weight back after you get the sleeve and lose all your weight? Yes, if you do not make lifestyle changes.
The sleeve DOES stretch. It will never get to the size your stomach was pre-surgery, but it does get bigger and it is easier to eat more food as time goes on, so it has to be a lifestyle change.
I can eat just as spicy a food now as I did before surgery. I do not drink caffeine, pop, beer. I have had a glass of wine with no problem.
When I hit goal I will probably have a glass of champagne and deal with the bloating of my sleeve and come what may whether or not my sleeve with stretch a bit.
The issue is, people thinking it's okay to drink real coffee, eat what they want right after they get sleeved. Your stomach gets cut from the bottom to the top and it's a massive surgery. Your stomach is extremely swollen inside and out and putting things like caffeine (which could cause ulcers), carbonation which is very rough and acidic on your swollen stomach or foods that are rough could cause a leak.
After you reach goal I think what you can and cannot tolerate is up to you. If you start throwing high carb food in, you will gain weight. It's a lifestyle change, not just a diet.

pretty-pink got a reaction from kryssaboo in 48 Pounds Lost And I Am The Only One Who Notices?I'm going to assume most people mean well. For some, that means mentioning weight loss. For others, they aren't comfortable bringing it up. I think they are uncertain how the recipient (us) will take it, so they'd rather say nothing and be "safe".

I'm not sure how much mine weighed but he did tell me it was larger than a basketball. :-/

My surgeon was more interested in capacity rather than weight. This is 1 of 3 pictures he gave me post op. i love it!!!

I was almost 50 lbs down before most people noticed, go figure. Even though I dropped from a size 22/24 to a 12/14! Just today my boss said something for the FIRST time, and I'm 63 lbs less! Some people feel uncomfortable saying anything, and others (especially those who see you every day) simply don't notice! Don't let it get you down.

Sometimes it hard to when people don't comment about my weight loss and then I have to re-frame my thoughts to, "I did this for me and this is my new new skinniness, and I love it." That's my reality check, it's for me and it was frickin hard work to get here. So happy we are all supportive of each other.

pretty-pink reacted to Butterthebean in CravingsHang in there Amanda. For me it got better as soon as I started eating soft foods.
I'm not condoning this, but when I was on full liquids I licked the flavoring off of 5 wheat thins. My God it was good, and I was satisfied. My dog ate the freshly licked wheat thins and she was happy too.

pretty-pink reacted to lollyfidy1965 in Biggest Omg Moments? My first OMG moment was being able to fit...comfortably...in a theatre seat!! Fitting in booths, in restaurants, is also a HUGE one!! (Never again will I have to say "could we please have a table?"!!)
I have an OMG moment every time I get dressed now....because I can't believe I'm wearing (loose) size 20 jeans, and (as of this past weekend) a 1X blouse!! I hold up my clothes and think "I can't possibly fit in something this small!"...and then I put it on, and it fits!!
And, this morning, the biggest yet....weighing myself, and finding that I've lost a whopping 100 pounds, since the end of March! (48 pounds since June 26th!) Unbelievable!
A big WOOT!! to you, for each of your OMG moments!!

pretty-pink reacted to Paigers in Does It Really Help?Hi everyone, I am a newbie here and I am beginning my sleeve process (process for insurance approval anyway). Although I dont LOVE to work out, I understand how great it is for your body. As all newbies I continue to go back and fourth with my decision. I am afraid that losing drastic amounts of weight so quickly isn't going to be very flattering. I have two close family member who have had gastric bypass and have fabulous results weight wise, but they have the drawn out, saggy, quick weight loss look. granted neither one ever work out. I know the main objective for this surgery is better health and that in its self has me leaning more and more towards the sleeve, but I will be lying if I say I dont care how I am going to look after the weight loss. I don't have tons of money for plastic surgery (although I wish I did). I am just wondering if I begin working out as soon as I get clearance will it help with shaping/toning my body? I just would still like to have some girly curves and not just have everything droop. I know there are things that are inevitable like some loose skin and droopy boobies ( I actually will try to save up to help the boobie part). I guess I was just wondering if there is anyone here that not only loves the weight loss and new size but also loves the way their body has visibly changed? I hope this isn't a stupid question and I truly don't mean any harm by it. I just want to be as honest as possible with this life changing decision.

pretty-pink reacted to Oregondaisy in Relationship HelpMaybe you should stop thinking of this as an unwanted pregnancy and start thinking of your unborn child. This is a baby you are going to raise and hopefully this child will be a part of your life, for the rest of your life.
Perhaps you should take everyone's advice and get some counseling to help you accept the fact that you are going to be a father, and couple's counseling to teach you and your wife communication skills.

pretty-pink reacted to gustavo52974 in Relationship HelpRemember the sanctity of marriage. I'm willing to bet that you said something like, "Till death do us part", or "As long as we both shall live" when you made your vows. This might just be my opinion, but I don't think vows are something one should abandon when they become inconvenient.

pretty-pink reacted to cr354 in Relationship HelpI say stick it out, get out of living with the in-laws as soon as possible, and seek some professional help from counselors. No offense to the ladies but pregnancy tends to make them..... well for lack of a better word crazy. I love my wife. We have been married for 10 years and have 2 kids. There have been some ups and some downs as with any relationship but, sticking it out is important. Don't ever let anyone put you down for seeking help. We are doing it for our weight managment issues through surgery so why is getting help from a counselor any different? There are plenty of free and low cost counseling services. Remember parenting is hard. And even as fathers the parenting starts when your wife gets pregnant. For my wife it changed her during and for a year after each pregnancy. For one thing sleep becomes much harder and that can be problemlematic. Also, remember your wife is probably gaining wait, a good thing when your pregnant, but that can make them feel insecure especially if it is at a time that their spouse is losing weight and getting a lot of attention. But, think of this, if she married you at 300 she is probably going to stick with you no matter what because she loves you. I give my wife props becuase she married me as the ex football pro who weighed around 225 lbs of pure muscle. Now I have degenerated into a 370lb lazy couch potato. But, she has been through my side. Perhaps it is becuase I am getting older, I am 35, but I want someone who is going to be by my side in the good and in the tough. Just my two cents. Either way good luck and best wishes.

pretty-pink reacted to LA_dreamer in Macho Cheese DoritosI don't plan on eating chips anytime soon BUT if i find a Dorito in front of me i might not be strong enough to not lick it... just sayin =)
-
pretty-pink reacted to O.T.R. sleever in Macho Cheese DoritosMost people are cleared for full foods somewhere between 4-8 weeks from surgery(Doritos would fall into this category) the staple line isn't considered fully healed till 6weeks post op, so I would at least wait till then.
Now that I have answered your "technical" question I would like to add
Carbs(white carbs)like chips trigger cravings. The more of them you eat, the more you want. So I strongly recommend stayin as far away from these as you can
If you just can't resist then I recommend you buy the smallest bag you can, chips are one of those things that just won't fill us up.
And most of all write your goals down this journey is so much easier with specific goals and timeframes. When you are pursuing a goal it's it's easy to say no to those garbage foods.

Keep walking. It takes a while but eventually you will get relief. Most people have the gas for several days after they get home. Comes with the territory. And don't worry, gagging and passing gas will not rip open your sleeve. If it did, we all would have been in emergency surgery.
