My bmi is almost 34.4. I am scheduled for surgery next week. I am self-paid. I am so ready for this. I have struggled with my weight forever. Long family history of diabetes... For me it's only a matter of time if I don't do something. I'm a size 14/16.... Goal is 135 pounds, I'm 5'4". Will keep you updated!
I have seen much success with lower bmi sleevers, we just seem to lose at a slower pace.

Hi I recommend getting it done in Mexico. I will be doing mine here because I am mexican (duh! ) but yes a lot of doctors are really nice and VERY experienced. I would also suggest not gaining that much weight because I actually did it and it is a little dumb because I feel so uncomfortable and my surgery is not until a few months from now. Get my point? I have to look heavier for the whole summer and nothing fits, I have to walk around with pants bc of that. The only upside is that I will get the surgery this year and everything will change soon, but I feel so uncomfortable right now. I strongly suggest not doing what I did and just find a doc that will do it with the weight you have. good luck! If you need advice for Mexico let me know!

My BMI has always been around 35. At least for the past 5 years. Last year it took a hike to exactly 40. That's when I decided I needed a more permanent tool to help keep the weight off.
I can lose weight, but I have trouble keeping off.
I was sleeved exactly 2 months ago, I have lost 50 pounds and have 30-40 to go. I say that because I have a very dense bone structure and don't want to get to bony looking.
I did the sleeve because I want to keep the weight off and it is helping me make a life style change. I love exercise and eating healthy, this has given me the incentive to keep it up!
    Good luck to you!

My BMI was 35 and I self-paid 18 months ago. I had no co-morbid conditions but I was putting on about 10 lbs a year and could see where I would end up if I didn't do something. I had tried diet and exercise my whole life and had been only intermittently successful and never really thin. I spent most of my 20s-30s as a size 12.
This surgery has totally been worth it. I feel great. I can run without my knees hurting. I threw away chocolate after Easter because I didn't want to eat it--it wasn't very good and not worth the calories. If I put something in my body now, it had better be either nutritious or something glorious for the tastebuds. Ordinary is not good enough anymore.
I am a size six, I'm 5'8, and life is wonderful. Best money I ever spent.

Ready! reacted to Sassygirl06 in I Want To Cry For Her
I have been looking back at some old pictures of myself at the heaviest weight that I was....and I cant help but want to cry for that woman I see in the pictures. I remember how sad she was. She hated herself everytime she looked in the mirror. She felt judged everytime she ate in public, or did anything in public. She felt like she didnt belong in her own family because they were all thin, and she was so fat. She felt so desperatly trapped, and didnt know what to do to get out. I dont miss her, I just feel sad for her, and want to cry for her because it took so long to get out of her prison.
Now the person that I am is a free woman. No longer am I scared to eat in public, or be seen with my family. I love shopping, and dont feel like all the skinny women in stores are asking why I even bother shopping. I have energy, and sass. I want to do everything now....no more hiding! I am sexy, and my husband cant keep his hands off of me !!!!
For anyone who is unsure if they should take this drastic measure to get everything back, and stop being in your own prison......DO IT! My only regret is that I didnt free that woman sooner.
    Thank God for the sleeve!

Likasulema, your daughter sounds similar to me - I started at about 190. (I've carried 60 extra lbs for about 15 years now). You should contact Dr. Kelly, he can talk to you more about it. I'm about a week out and starting to feel really good and happy about all of it! Now I am feeling confident that I have avoided diabetes and high blood pressure, which was looming over my head for the last few months....

As for loss... I think we have to be more patient. We are not supposed to lose more than 1-2 lbs per week in any given week. More than that really is not healthy for our sizes.... and yes some weeks you will gain, secondary to Water gain, etc. Just keep doing what you're doing, get your Protein in, and drink your water! It will come off!!

My current weight is 196 and I'm scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. Are you ladies exercising? Protein intake? Water intake? I'm sure that you will continue to lose, just at a much slower pace. You will catch up and be at goal within the year... That's the pattern I've noticed from sleevers that start at 200 or less. Good luck and keep up the hard work!

Personally, I think the obsession continues AFTER surgery too! It pretty much consumes my life right now. That and going to the gym. I know my husbands over hearing about what I ate today, what the scale says, how many miles on the treadmill, lol. I wonder if anyone else further along can let me know if you eventually forget about it or if it consumes you forever??

Ready! reacted to Sassygirl06 in The Horrible Feeling That You Are Done
We all have been there. You hit a stall and it lasts so long that you start to believe that your weight loss is done. I know all about stalls...I know everyone gets them, but regardless I still get those little demons creeping up in my mind saying...you arent going to lose anymore weight, you are a failure. This last stall was a duzzy. I had been the same weight plus or minus 2 pounds for almost 3 months. I started to believe that I had let myself down, and started feeling depressed, thinking what was the point? I started eating crap that I knew was bad for me believing that why should I even try to eat right if it isnt going to work anyways. Well just when I was about to give up completely my scale did something amazing.... I lost 5 pounds in a week! Thinking it was just a fluke I got back on the scale the next day and wouldnt you guess it...no I wouldnt have, but I lost another pound! Then a few days later I rechecked to see if I gained any back...and bamb! I lost another two pounds! I lost 8 pounds in a matter of 9 days I just wanted to give a little inspiration to those of you that are in one of those dreaded stalls....just keep positive...keep working that sleeve, and your body will do the rest! keep smiling!
