Kiloalphatango reacted to randalljohn in How Soon After Surgery Can I Resume Competitive Eating Contests?Of course, I'm just kidding. Was watching ESPN today and they had competitive eating contests on and it was disgusting! I almost threw up watching it.
Of course, I would lose because I would be able to eat only half a hot dog-- thank goodness!

Kiloalphatango reacted to layla33 in Beef JerkyWhat is most interesting and amazing to me is the huge disparity in advice from "experts". I've got some news which I have discovered after 11 post op months...very few docs OR nutritionists have actually had this surgery. And there is precious little research on post op symnptoms, only on outcomes. So the medical literature simply does not support, "Don't eat X or there will be dire consequences!" See what YOUR body tolerates and does not tolerate, taking tiny samples of foods you feel you MUST have. Some of us are really fond of diet sodas. I've been drinking it since post op day 3. I have some tummy issues whether or not I drink it, and no matter WHAT I injest, food or drink. I have lost 95 pounds in almost one full year. I feel pretty great and I'm back exercising regularly for the first time in years. The angst and resentment involved in "swearing off" even small amounts of the things we love are harmful, not helpful, to your ongoing goal of eating in a healthy and sensible way. Relaaaaax a little, folks. Be cautious and careful and eat tiny and often, and the weight comes off. At least all this has been true for me.

Kiloalphatango got a reaction from Pre-OpLoser619 in Favorite Bariatric Vitamins And Suppliments ?I take kiddy multi v - vit c & fish oil!
They are chewable and really nice - probably cos they are covered in sugar.
I eat them at 3pm when I feel like i'll go on a rampage if I don't get a sugar hit!
Its a win win!

Kiloalphatango got a reaction from sssehol in Low Bmi'ers -- Please Share Your Storyu guys are so lucky insurance will pay for you!
In aus we don't have that option unless we pay a mint (around $200 a month) for really high up private health cover, then we are still out of pocket at least 9k.
If we self pay we are up for about 20k (I paid)
ouch.
ok sorry rant over.

Kiloalphatango got a reaction from sssehol in Low Bmi'ers -- Please Share Your StoryI've just had the surgery 2 weeks ago, and so far so good!
The way I looked at it was, been there done that! Yes i could loose the weight on my own, I have in the past but this is a long term assistance tool not my usual diet and exercise until someone invites me to dinner or drinks thing.
So far no problems with the food, i find I still want to eat the rubbish not so much in a head hunger way just if i see it I want it, and if its ok in my 2 week thing, yep sweet ill have it. But I'm happy with only a tiny amount (for example its taken me a week to eat 1/2 a tub of low fat moose). 1 or 2 tiny teaspoons and I've had my hit! (3 weeks ago me would not stop at a teaspoon) Don't get me wrong, I could easily polish off the whole tub even at 2 weeks out, but I don't find I need to or want to.
I have no idea about long term, hoping it works out ok. But I have accepted that it won't just fall off me because I went in with the lower BMI and already quite fit
also, my BMI was 38 day of surgery, but when i decided to have the surgery it was 34 - I just got a bit crazy in the lead up to surgery. Also I'm 5'7

Kiloalphatango reacted to Foxbins in Low Bmi'ers -- Please Share Your StoryMy BMI was 35 and I self-paid 18 months ago. I had no co-morbid conditions but I was putting on about 10 lbs a year and could see where I would end up if I didn't do something. I had tried diet and exercise my whole life and had been only intermittently successful and never really thin. I spent most of my 20s-30s as a size 12.
This surgery has totally been worth it. I feel great. I can run without my knees hurting. I threw away chocolate after Easter because I didn't want to eat it--it wasn't very good and not worth the calories. If I put something in my body now, it had better be either nutritious or something glorious for the tastebuds. Ordinary is not good enough anymore.
I am a size six, I'm 5'8, and life is wonderful. Best money I ever spent.

Kiloalphatango reacted to Cerebus in Killer CravingsI was craving red meat starting right away at the beginnig my 2 week pre-op diet, all the way through the first 4 weeks post op. As soon as I hit that 4 week mark, I bought a little fresh ground chuck and threw a mini-burger on the grill. It was the most incredible thing I've ever eaten, pre- or post-op.

Kiloalphatango reacted to Sassygirl06 in I Want To Cry For HerI have been looking back at some old pictures of myself at the heaviest weight that I was....and I cant help but want to cry for that woman I see in the pictures. I remember how sad she was. She hated herself everytime she looked in the mirror. She felt judged everytime she ate in public, or did anything in public. She felt like she didnt belong in her own family because they were all thin, and she was so fat. She felt so desperatly trapped, and didnt know what to do to get out. I dont miss her, I just feel sad for her, and want to cry for her because it took so long to get out of her prison.
Now the person that I am is a free woman. No longer am I scared to eat in public, or be seen with my family. I love shopping, and dont feel like all the skinny women in stores are asking why I even bother shopping. I have energy, and sass. I want to do everything now....no more hiding! I am sexy, and my husband cant keep his hands off of me !!!!
For anyone who is unsure if they should take this drastic measure to get everything back, and stop being in your own prison......DO IT! My only regret is that I didnt free that woman sooner.
Thank God for the sleeve!

Kiloalphatango reacted to wolf3749 in Soup Saved The DayToday I was going through withdrawal from cooking. I love it. Im 6 days post op and my husband has been cooking for himself and the kids while I crack open my can o' soup. So, I decided to make some homemade soup. It was so delicious. Shiitakes and green onions sautéed in a tiny amount of butter. Add flour and stir and then 2cups low sodium chicken broth and stir til thickened. Add 1 cup evaporated milk. I then liquified it all in the blender. I was awesome! I felt normal in the kitchen. It makes the liquid stage soooo much better to have homemade, healthy, great tasting food. What helps you through your liquid stage?

Kiloalphatango reacted to LouiseC in Happy. So Very, Very Happy.I am just so glad that I had this operation. I have not felt this happy for years. I find myself just sitting here smiling. I wake up smiling. I get dressed smiling. I drive to work singing my heart out, happy as a pig in muck. I am usually a happy person, but this happiness, this absolute joy? This is new. I am just so, so grateful that I had this opportunity to transform my life and improve my health.
Despite the heartburn, the constipation, the pain of a pulled stitch and the full time job that is keeping hydrated.
I am just so damn happy!
Had to share with all of you as I am driving my family crazy :-)

Kiloalphatango reacted to Back~To~Amy in Who Else Is On 2 Week Liquid DietI wish I was only on liquids for 2 weeks postop. I'm on them for 3 weeks. Thank goodness I nice to mushies next Tuesday cause I'm so over liquids.
On the sugar note, I'm not worried about the amount either. What you can have on the postop diet is so limited. I figure I'll adjust my diet once I'm on a normal one free of postop restrictions.

Kiloalphatango got a reaction from MyGastricSleeveLife in Cardio Vs Weight Training For Weight Loss, Wyo?Hmmmm I'd do both to be honest.
Cardio while awesome for the heart, gets the blood flow happening & is great for the weight loss, just make sure u mix it up (which is partly why c25k is so awesome with its stop starts)
Weight lifting, also great because the more muscle u have = the more fat u burn
Target heart zones are annoying, yes when u push past a certain level u go into the fitness zone but that's still great! If u think about it cardio = fat burn so if your in either zone it's fine.
I'd stick to the c25k, it gets results & ull be running 5k like its nothing within a few months. As you get fitter your heart rate will drop while u excercise as well as everyday (this bits annoying) and you will sit within fat burn more often.
Any excercise is good, but just mix it up as much as possible otherwise your body gets used to it and u don't have as many results
Good luck!

Kiloalphatango reacted to Butterthebean in Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?I must have missed something here because I didnt see any rude rampages, only a healthy debate, and a lot of good information. Considering this is going to be a pro-sleeve crowd, I'm not surprised most here favor getting the sleeve over RNY....as do I.

I am 2 months out and I also had no pain... Just mild soreness (imagine doing 100 crunches). I also had no gas or nausea.... It was like I never even had surgery...... Truly Amazing!!
Good Luck!

Call it blessed, KAT!

I do the same thing -- I check the nutritional value of menus online before going out or suggesting places to meet. I am shocked by what I used to eat (and know for sure how I got to be in the shape I was in). Now those things don't even sound good to me. I love knowing what I am going to order and thrilled that I can participate in life and sociaize with friends while still supporting my goals. So empowering!

We are just the lucky ones! I have felt no pain, no sickness, I get "full" but never feel bad full or slimies. I woke up, started walking and never looked back. My PA said I am the minority lol. The doc even let me go home half a day early, he told me the hospital was for sick people.
Congrats on your success and good luck on your weight loss.

I am four weeks post op. I never had pain except for getting up for first time after surgery. I thought something was wrong with me but at two weeks post op appointment dr said your doing great. The dr also said that everyone is different my friend who had it done the same day as me is still having pain so I would say that must be a true statement.

Kiloalphatango reacted to MyGastricSleeveLife in Hmmm, No Pain, No Nothing? Should I Be Happy Or Worried?I think you're doing fine. I didn't have much pain at all & feel my recovery has been great. Once I started on pureed foods, I get full fast and feel restriction, but it's completely different when you're just on liquids!
