I have researched lap band surgery for over 3 years. Because of job layoffs, my insurance kept changing. First I was with Kaiser, they do not do lap bands and require you to attend a 3-4 month pre surgery class every week. I was then laid off and lost Kaiser insurance. Next I had PPO insurance, I was approved but my out of pocket expenses were $3000 - $4000. This year I have an HMO. I mentioned my interest in lap band at my first visit with my new doctor, the next thing I knew I had been approved! It all went very quickly and here I am, 2 days past surgery!
