Restriction or no restriction that is the question

I posted a question in the post op form on restriction. I received several replies with good reminders of what I need to be focused on.

I have no restriction. I have read that it happens when the swelling goes down. I just didn't expect it one week after surgery. I guess unrealistically I expected to be a little "tight" for a while.

So, now I am on a different path. I have to be more mindful of my eating since I obviously don't have the help of my band right now. I go to the doctor on June 10th so that is quite a while to be on my own.

I have thought a lot of what would I do if I stretched my pouch. What if this lack of restriction was actually my pouch was stretched? Could that be it? What do I need to do if it is stretched and how would I even know? Anyone?

I am right where you are. No help from the band right now and of course wondering as you are if the pouch is stretched. I am guessing we're fine but have to wait for our fill. Mine is June seventh. Good luck, stay strong, keep us posted.

I think we all go through the " have I stretched my band" phase. There is a 5 day pouch test you can do and this will help you determine if you stretched the band as well as help you "restart". If you go to the website it lays out the whole plan and how much you "should" eat..liquids first. When I get a fill this is basically the plan I have to follow each time only my dr doesn't call the 5 day pouch test and he spreads it over 7 days. Here is the website www.5daypouchtest.com

I was also scared to death about stretching my pouch. After my first few fills, I asked the staff running the x-ray machine if they had seen this happen. They mentioned it occurs mostly after you have tight restriction from several fills. Not so much when you are still trying to get to that green spot. They also said it would be very painful to eat that much and have it sit there after every meal to expand/stretch the pouch. I was relieved to hear that I was okay. I am sure you both are fine. Thanks for the post. :)

Thanks finally and drowsy. Interesting information. I was really worried and I would say that one or two "mishaps" shouldn't have done any harm. Now that I am aware of it I just to need to listen more to my stomach. The problem that I am seeing when I eat is I don't have the full feeling until about 30-60 minutes after I eat. Sometimes an hour later and I am just like UGH!! I am stuffed whereas 10 mins after eating I didn't feel full at all and still felt hungry. I slow down and take my time. That is what gets me in trouble when I don't get that signal until much later.
