I have the opposite problem. I can eat faster and more than I would like to so I have to keep trying to slow down and measure my food. I agree we are all different but the grass is not necessarily greener over here. I think as time goes by you will be the one in a better place.

BariBabe reacted to LilaNicole20 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesI am experiencing the same thing and worried that I have already over done it and ruined my restriction. But alot of people in other threads have said that is normal in the liquid phase, once we get to purée and soft it will be more obvious. Hope that is true!!

Taking my own advice - Hold myself accountable. Surgery 10/2020, HW somewhere in the 280's. Low weight 165 ... Current weight 175.... Why? Here's why...
Last day tracked January 19th Last regular/daily tracking November 2021 Last day registered weighing - January (I still do weigh almost daily though) Eating/drinking (including alcohol) whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted - "Justified" it by telling myself "It's ok, I can't eat that much of whatever... and I'm drinking low calorie alcohol. All of this equals close to 10lb overall gain in a fairly short period of time. Failing to address it now will simply put me back where I started. If you've been at all successful in this journey, you know what works and what doesn't - Don't lie to yourself and pretend everything is fine and end up with a 20lb gain - Mentally 5 was my threshold and we see how that worked out. For me at least, I don't want to feel ashamed that I worked so hard only to fail in the long run.
Today, back on track, I have no doubt that I will fall off the wagon again, but hey... it's a marathon, not a sprint.
I WILL track food and drink - even if it's not something on my plan. I WON'T lie to myself. I'll set realistic/attainable goals. I WON'T do anything drastic (for me) like liquids only for x number of days - It isn't sustainable and results with me doing stupid things. -
BariBabe reacted to KBMarie in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesHello everyone!
I just had my surgery 2 days ago. Post op is a little rough. Any tricks on how to stay hydrated? How long did it take for the pain to go away?
Good luck to anyone who is about to get their surgery! And congratulations to everyone who has completed their surgery!

BariBabe reacted to Smiley4 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesHey there! I just was sleeved on 3/1/22 on Tuesday and I promise it is a struggle to drink so much but do it while you can. After surgery, I have barely been able to hold anything down. I think it is their way of prepping you for what is to come. Best of luck!

BariBabe reacted to Toomany#s in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesIt’s normal to be scared. Try to focus on how losing excess weight will help your physical difficulties. It certainly sounds like you’ve had more than your share. No one can guarantee that you won’t have any complications, but they are relatively uncommon. I definitely don’t think that you will come out worse. I know it sounds stupid, but try to think positive and hopeful thoughts. You have lots of support on this forum and you can do this!

BariBabe got a reaction from LilaNicole20 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesWell I'm officially sleeved. March 2nd has come and gone. I'm at home typing this in my bed now. I was sooo nervous, I had never had any kind of surgery before. My appointment was at 1:30p but I got bumped up to 10am (someone tested positive for Covid and lost her spot). The scariest part to e was not waking up from being put under (strange? I know right... but you don't pick your fears. Ha!) All went well and I was discharged from the hospital today. I'm not in any pain, just a little gassy from the surgery. I wish you all well and I guess I have to find another post to type in now. Good Luck to the rest of you all. I hope your surgery goes smooth and by the book like mine did!

BariBabe reacted to gabbykittyvsg in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesMy surgery was long but went well. I'm not in a ton of pain thanks to scheduled pain meds, I only took one oxycodone.
My leak test this morning showed the barium was still in my esophagus more than 10 minutes after I drank it. I got a dose of steroids to get rid of the swelling. I'm not surprised because I had the same thing happened with my sleeve. It looks like I'll be spending another day here

BariBabe reacted to LilaNicole20 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesYou are not alone and you are not crazy!
I can relate with you about the food not tasting as good as my mind told me it was going to be. I had been experiencing similar affects in the weeks prior, I ordered Wendy's chicken nuggets and they just tasted like cardboard to me (minus the honey mustard). I had a similar experience with other foods, a lemon shortcake that made my mouth feel like it was just coated in shortening - which I was happy to experience because that had previously been one of my favorites.
So have you started your 2-week diet yet? How's it going? I'm on day 3 and I feel good. I was successful in cutting out caffeine and sugar(for the most part) out prior to this start. I'm having some cravings - but only when I see food, smell food, or see a commercial with food - to which I just look away and try to ignore it. I am losing about 2lbs each day, so that is encouraging!
All the Best

BariBabe reacted to TheWeightisOvr in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesYou really bring up some very real practical thought analysis to this. I think a lot of us have gotten to the point where we are tired of the yoyo dieting once and for all and now want this tool to help aid our efforts as we didn’t have the tool In our other efforts.
You can gain your weight back and then some more if you go back to your eating habits but if you feel that you will go back to your eating habits and you’re not ready to make this lifestyle change I definitely wouldn’t go through with it that doesn’t mean that you won’t be ready for me I am really really tired of being overweight. I’m going to use these next two years after the surgery to push my body get the lifestyle and stick with the lifestyle but that’s what I resolved in my mind everybody has to do that for themselves.
I know you’re seeking the surgery for the same relief. I do hope you get there and The tool provided through surgery will help aid you and your efforts good luck to you! You can always message me you’re probably anybody on here for moral support.

BariBabe reacted to WImom8 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesMy date is March 23rd! I find myself very emotional every time I talk about it, it feels like I’ve been working toward this forever.

BariBabe reacted to gabbykittyvsg in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesWe're getting close!! I start my pre-op appointments next week. I have my pre-op physical with my GP on Tuesday and blood work Thursday. No pre-op liver shrinking diet for me. I'm close to "Healthy" weight and my surgical team decided it wasn't necessary for me. I'm soooo very ready to get this GERD out of my life for good!

BariBabe reacted to LilaNicole20 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesOh girl, I already know I'm going to be in trouble in that regard, too. I definitely do not chew my food enough as it is, so that will be a challenge for me. You have offered great advice, thank you! Good job measuring your foods and not relying on the restriction to hit.

BariBabe got a reaction from Meg3722 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesHey, I'm scheduled for March 2nd too. I guess we're surgery twins! Lol. I'm so excited and nervous. The big day is right around the corner. Much love and blessings to you.

BariBabe reacted to Meg3722 in March 2022 Surgery BuddiesMindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feeling this way too, know you're not alone.
My surgery date is March 7th, just 21 days away. I've been on an 8-month journey filled with highs and lows like so many of you. As I reflect on my feelings today, I want to honor them wholeheartedly as each one of them is valid. Most of all, I felt it was important to share my feelings with others who may be feeling similarly.
While each of our journeys is that of our own, we're not alone. We all need to be reminded of that in our moments of mixed emotions.
