E.S got a reaction from Lynda486 in Teriffying experience blockage of foodHi
I feel like crying... today I had my first experience with blockage of food in my esophagus.
It felt like I was about to have a heart attack or something , I was on the verge of passing out.
Stupid me thinking I would push it down with some yogurt since you can’t drink.. I made it worse.
My heart was palpating really fast , I was getting dizzy , I was shaking on my feet until I put a finger in my mouth and vomit most of it out... what came out was a weird thick slimey substance
I had left over tilapia fish from yesterday which was dry. I knew before hand it would be a risk of me eating it cuz of the dryness but here I am , still eating it.
2 bites and I went through hell.
I’m 3 weeks and 4 days post op.
I still feel something blocking but I’m drinking water....
Food is my enemy. Before the surgery it was my enemy and i abused it made myself morbidly obese and now after surgery It feels like it tries to kill me.
I know I’m super emotional.
I never experienced being thin and care free, seeing people who are thin and care free of what they eat makes me so jealous and makes me feel so low. I have to watch out for the rest of my life of the stuff I put in my mouth. Life is unfair but we deal with it.
This by far worse than dumping syndrome. I have learned my lesson. No more tilapia fish for me for awhile.
Thanks for reading xoxo -

E.S got a reaction from MegHealthy in What are slider foods? To the weight loss surgery patient slider foods are the bane of good intentions and ignorance often causing dumping syndrome, weight loss plateaus, and eventually weight gain. Slider foods, to weight loss surgery patients, are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. The most innocent of slider foods are saltine crackers, often eaten with warm tea or other beverages, to soothe the stomach in illness or while recovering from surgery.
Understanding Slider Foods
The most commonly consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free cookies, cakes, and candy. You will notice these slider foods are often salty and cause a dry mouth so they must be ingested with liquid to be palatable. This is how they become slider foods. They are also, most often, void of nutritional value.
For weight loss surgery patients the process of digestion is different than those who have not undergone gastric surgery. When slider foods are consumed they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum where the simple carbohydrate slurry is quickly absorbed and stored by the body. There is little thermic effect in the digestion of simple carbohydrates like there is in the digestion of protein so little metabolic energy is expended. In most cases patients in the phase of weight loss who eat slider foods will experience a weight loss plateau and possibly the setback of weight gain. And sadly, they will begin to believe their surgical stomach pouch is not functioning properly because they never feel fullness or restriction like they experience when eating protein.
The very nature of the surgical gastric pouch is to cause feelings of tightness or restriction when one has eaten enough food. However, when soft simple carbohydrates are eaten this tightness or restriction does not result and one can continue to eat, unmeasured, copious amounts of non-nutritional food without ever feeling uncomfortable.
Many patients turn to slider foods for this very reason. They do not like the discomfort that results when the pouch is full from eating a measured portion of lean animal or dairy protein without liquids. Yet it is this very restriction that is the desired result of the surgery. The discomfort is intended to signal the cessation of eating. Remembering the “Protein First” rule is crucial to weight management with bariatric surgery.
Gastric bypass, gastric banding (lap-band) and gastric sleeve patients are instructed to follow a high protein diet to facilitate healing and promote weight loss. Bariatric centers advise what is commonly known among weight loss surgery patients as the “Four Rules” the most important of which is “Protein First.” That means of all nutrients (protein, veggies, complex carbohydrates, then fat and alcohol) the patient is required to eat protein first.
Protein is not always the most comfortable food choice for weight loss surgery patients who feel restriction after eating a very small amount of food. However, for the surgical tool to work correctly a diet rich in protein and low in simple carbohydrate slider foods must be observed. The high protein diet must be followed even after healthy body weight has been achieved in order to maintain a healthy weight and avoid weight regain.

E.S got a reaction from CyndieRI in ConstipationHaha funny thing, the moment you reacted my bowels were moving and I had a sweet release ? -
E.S got a reaction from CyndieRI in ConstipationThank you guys for the replies, I’m gonna contact my hospital tomorrow and ask for advice since I don’t want to take anything without the permission of my surgeon . -
E.S got a reaction from ProudGrammy in What they won’t tell you after gbpHello everybody
Today I want to talk about 2 subjects that I haven’t heard anything about before my surgery.
Which I discovered after the surgery.
The first thing I wasn’t told anything about was how bad you would smell after the surgery.
Not immediately after surgery but when you go back home and you’re around your 4th day post, the putrid smell that comes from your sweat is something you have to get used to.
Like I can smell the vitamins that I take and also the food that I consume.
Before the surgery I would sweat a lot as well because obvious reasons of being morbidly obese. But now it’s a different kind of smell that’s more stronger. I didn’t know this would be a side effect.
I know that when you pass gas it would be putrid as well , same as when you do the number 2. But the smell of the sweat is something else y’all. M
Injections against blood clots.
After your surgery you have to inject yourself with medicine against blood clots in order to avoid strokes etc because you don’t move around as much anymore.
But nobody told me how my legs would look like while using it.
My legs are looking beat up.
After you inject the medicine into your legs, you r not allowed to rub it, otherwise you’ll get bruises. But you can’t help your clothes from not rubbing against your skin so I got bruises all over and it looks horrible. So if you’re used to wearing shorts, just remember that .
I have to take each every day for a 1 month or so and my legs are just.... yeah.. it’s not pretty.
I’m 11 days post op and still going strong ??
Thank you guys for listening

E.S got a reaction from clsumrall in First dumping experience - 12 days post opThank you for sharing your story, it’s always gonna be a uphill battle to not give into the cravings whether one experienced dumping or not. Just remember why you had this surgery and make it your every day reminder. I can certainly tell you lot of things they said before the surgery doesn’t pan out after the surgery ??
Good luck with everything ?? -

E.S reacted to Frustr8 in Teriffying experience blockage of foodE.S. I haven't totally left you, hope we have jackets or at least vests for this organization. Be 3 weeks tomorrow, yesterday was first day Precious Pouch behaved like a good little pouch. Mixed up half a banana in my protein shake, need a little fruit/Miralax to keep things chugging through to the finish. My colon prefers to slumber away. Maybe not enough left to come through, maybe 70 year old lazy colon, maybe need to go to MoM instead or in addition. Bad when you think Did I Go Today or Not?
God did say " This too shall pass" but I suspect He was referring to life trials not? -
E.S reacted to clsumrall in Teriffying experience blockage of foodI was cocky because I’ve had no vomiting or dumping and then I made a pot roast with gravy and chewed my brains out and it happened. So Much Pain in my chest and throat. Took 1 hour before I could throw it up took 2 days for me to swallow normal again. I was 3 &1/2 weeks out. So I was approved for rotisserie chicken and thought the pot roast would be ok. But NO -
E.S reacted to MissPoodle in Teriffying experience blockage of foodI'm still on the puree stage and i acknowledge that different doctors recommend different diets. My dietitian has told me to start soft foods after 2 weeks and to start normal diet at 4 weeks. One of the things they stressed is i will have to chew every mouthful till the food liquefies in my mouth before swallowing. Not sure if this helps.

E.S reacted to mjcclkwd in Teriffying experience blockage of foodFish is hard for me also. It needs to be very moist in order not to get stuck. We need to remember to chew chew chew. I catch myself not chewing enough and getting the back up and pain. I have found that eating in front of the TV or playing a game on my phone helps slow me down and distract me a little. -
E.S got a reaction from Frustr8 in Teriffying experience blockage of foodThank y’all for commenting. I’m still experiencing blockage , I vomited again. I had a bit of chicken and carrots and it got stuck again.
I think I need to pay a visit to the hospital.
Yogurt and fruits goes in good. Even cheese.

E.S reacted to GreenTealael in Teriffying experience blockage of foodYes relax,
Try and let food be just food now, with no control over you.
Try to eat most things very moist and don't take unnecessary chances.
Try to let go of those negative thoughts about the past and concentrate on the present and future
