harmony11 got a reaction from newskinnygal in Were You Sore A Month Out Of Surgery?YES! I was a rockstar the first 3 weeks. Then on Friday, I started getting sore just below my bra line and the larger incision. By Saturday, I was miserable. I couldn't stand up straight, deep breaths were out of the question and more than a bite or two was just not happening.
It was bad enough last night that I called my surgeon on his cell phone (he said it was ok at our initial visit) and if I couldn't get him, I was going to the ER.
He said it is perfectly normal and that I had probably been over doing it. He said to take my pain meds and use my heating pad.
Thank goodness I still have pain meds. I took some yesterday and they helped almost instantly. This morning, I could tell I was going to be tender today, so I took some kid's ibuprofin and I have 2 small salon pas Patches on my abdomen (not on incision sites). It is helping SO MUCH.

harmony11 reacted to jen_1381 in Hypothyroidism And Lapband Success?!?!?!?I have hypothyroid, have been on levothyroxine for about a year. After I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, everything went out of sorts. The replacement keeps me in the normal range. I've lost 50 lbs so far and am almost 11 weeks out from surgery. It can be done!!
I asked my surgeon if losing weight would have any effect on my thyroid level (in hopes to one day have it function normally on its own and I can quit the pill) and he said that the research so far has been inconclusive. Wait and see?
I tell you though, getting my thyroid level regulated and my Vitamin D level up to par, I feel 100x better.

harmony11 got a reaction from icandothisforme in Calorie CounterYes! I love both of these features. It is sometimes a PITA to input recipes and then measuring them out into servings, but it is so worth it. I found that eyeballing a portion of Protein was not one of my strong suits and that I wasn't getting enough.

harmony11 got a reaction from maegan in Officially Banded!I got banded this morning and have been to the grocery store/pharmacy (meds and walking some gas out). I am home resting and watching food Network (my fave post surgery past time).
And for the icing on the cake - fellow bandaged Radarluv and I got to meet in post-op/recovery. Apparently there was some conversation pre-op, but I was already dosed on the good stuff and remember none of it!
I have neve enjoyed burping as much as I am now - ready to get this gas out.
I hope all of our recent bandsters are having a great recovery'

harmony11 reacted to Thats All Folks in Pre-Op Diets? (Before Process)Well, here's my take on it.
Saying no carbs is extreme. I tried that once many years ago and I couldn't do it either. Many do a low carb diet after Lap-Band surgery, however I do not. I need this to be realistic for a lifetime change and super low carb simply isn't realistic for me. Thankfully, I have a great nutritionist who agrees and has my guidelines set with what I consider realistic carb amounts. I've lost a good deal of weight in 6 months so I think it's safe to say in my case, I do just fine having carbs and losing.
Now, the Lap-Band won't "force" anything on you. The band is just a tool, not a magic pill. It can't and won't stop you from eating unhealthy. It can't always even force you to eat the right amounts of food. What it can do is help us to feel satisfied with less food for longer periods of time.
It's a big change to your entire life and requires a total change of your eating habits that last a lifetime. Simply put it's a huge decision and not one to be taken lightly. I would highly suggest doing a lot of research and going to a seminar to learn about it before making a decision,
Best wishes to you

harmony11 got a reaction from ashiashley in Annoyed !The word about mine is slowly getting out. I have several friends who know, but I don't tell them outright. They have asked what is going on and I direct them to my blog where I wrote about my debate on telling friends or not and that I didn't want to have to throat punch anyone who was negative. So...they can see what I am doing, think their own thoughts and make an educated decision on whether to tell me if they think it is a bad idea. Lucky for them, they've all been supportive.

harmony11 got a reaction from Dawn12 in Anyone Getting Banded In July?I am on 2 weeks of 2 protein shakes + one meal of lean protein/green veggies. I can also have a cup of fruit.
For whoever was asking about making the shakes better:
Vanilla protein
a few chunks of pineapple (I buy fresh and freeze)
a few pitted cherries (I buy fresh and freeze)
SF vanilla pudding (dietician suggested it)
Water
Ice
A teeny sprinkle of coconut
And you have yourself a virgin pina colada. It is really tasty.
I do something similar but with chocolate powder and pudding, blueberries and cherries.
I will be able to get more creative once I am on liquids post surgery. I love adding a little peanut butter, bananas and cocoa powder. I also add a few handfuls of spinach. It blends in and you can't taste it. You just have do get past the hideous color it turns with the chocolate.
