Jepegurl reacted to Conley in The Milestones Keep Coming!I reached another milestone last night and a couple this morning.
We went out to dinner last night to Gringo's Mexican food. This is the first week of no real food restrictions other than the carb laden foods. I ordered the Fajita salad without the flour bowl. I had them bring me diced fresh jalapenos and onions with a side of the amazon sauce for dressing. I had 7 chips with red and green salsa. I had to. The salad was good. 30 mins after we got our meals, I was only 1/3 done with my meal. I was the only one eating at that time. The rest of the family had finished 10 minutes before me. I brought the rest of the salad home. The fajita meat is really good at that place
I took my blood sugar fasting this morning and it was 118. That is a little on the upper end of the normal tolerance. But the milestone was that I have not been taking diabetes meds and that was a great level for me!
I weighed myself this morning and I was 267. I haven't been that weight in years. I am also able to run at 5mph on the treadmill for a couple minutes now. I am going to increase the running time during my 2 mile treadmill workout.
I am very glad that I made the decision to get healthier. It is not real easy and it is a little struggle at times, but as long as I keep my eyes on the prize, I can run this race!

Jepegurl reacted to 2muchfun in In MourningIt takes me so long to eat a plate of food I'm sick of looking at it after 30 minutes. That's cured me temporarily but I'm sure if I was around relatives who can eat and do eat everything they want and my band was loose, I'd fall back into the same old routine.
Slow down your eating routine and see if that satiates your appetite?

Jepegurl got a reaction from brenty in High Protein/low Fat Foods...Some Greek yogurts are better than others I'm finding. Aldis has a Greek yogurt, pineapple flavored. It's my favorite. Maybe Greek yogurt is an acquired taste?

Jepegurl reacted to Ric in High Protein/low Fat Foods...I agree Cottage cheese is a fav I like to mix the Cottage cheese with some green olives, eggs are really good also. Sometimes I like a Refried beans and crackers or tortilla chips but I thin the Beans out with lowfat or nonfat sourcream or Greek Yogurt. I make a 15 bean soup with veggies sometimes and even Posole with Pork, the pork is so cooked down that it is easy to chew and swallow. In the Posole there will be fat so I put the pot in the fridge after cooking it and the next day i take the fat off that hardend on the top. For a snack I love Pistachio nuts in the shell. I personally Love fish, pretty much any fish as well as shellfish I do stray away from canned fish like sardines because they are mostly packed in oil.

Jepegurl reacted to YngGram in Banded 4/20/12 And Concerned.......What did that PA weight, 87lbs? The other two replys might be right, but I travel a different road. When they haven't been there they don't understand. Most of us do lose on our own during preop time, but our motivation is excitement based. It is just a tool, but it works on many things at once. If we eat in the order we should, Protein first, we get what we need and don't have room for the bad stuff. It also helps with the mindless eatiing because food can become just fuel and not our comfort. I am able to eat most of the things they say we shouldn't be able to. And there are many that I just can't eat. A slice of pizza goes down fine, but I can't eat a hard boiled egg.
I got this because I suck at diets and I don't want to be on one the rest of my life. My band alows me to eat most of the things I want but only a little of it gives me what I need. You will learn what you can't eat and you will learn not to go to far.
Just because she works in that office she might not have a true understanding of our reasons for this. Many docs now put in a small fill during surgery (mine did) and pace out the fills slowly. This is a lifestyle change and you aren't doing anything wrong. You are right about what needs to happen in order for you to feel you made the right choice. I take it you didn't get a fill, you may need to speak to your doc. Good Luck.

Springers, what we have lost so far either slowly or quickly is NOT a " little weight"! Go to the store and pick up 15# of sugar! it is significant! So Turtles unite! We are doing great! Let's keep on....1-2# per week is a victory! We are doing great and getting better at this process every week!

Jepegurl got a reaction from iamcindylou in When Did Everyone Stop Taking Vitamins? My doc says I'll be on them for life. I have 2 cousins who have had gastric bypass- I know it's not nearly the same as us- and they're so malnourished- no vitamins. Why not keep taking them?

Jepegurl reacted to Short and Chunky in StrugglingSarah, I sure get it. I am 10 months post op. Down 89 pounds BUT it was 93 until I started eating junk again. I just got home from the doctor and my band has been tightened a bit (a lot in fact). I have not been exercising - I prefer to walk - and I haven't been following all the rules. I understand how you feel..The candy and donuts that I have been "sneeking" these past few weeks have come back to haunt me and no one is to blame but ME...the band will let you eat crap if you chew it enough and the band does not take away cravings,,,,only you can do that. I am glad you posted what you did, I needed to hear that someone else is in my boat ! Have a great weekend and hang in there.

I agree. My doc told me to go to weight watchers because that is what his wife does. I went straight to a lapband doc and I have had great success! (the wife........not so much, but don't want to gossip. )

Alright ladies...lets calm our heads and just agree to disagree. Exercise is important for health. You may get results without it. But your life, health, and overall wellbeing will be great if you include it in your life style changes. At the end of the day, the choice is yours...and my definition of success my be different from your definition of success depending on what our goals are. Me is to live longer and be s healthier me. And "I" need exercise to accomplish this. Your goal may just be to lose weight....and you only need the band. Whatever the case its your life and your decision. Not for us to judge eachother. We are here to support eachother.

At this stage you sure seem to know it all

For anyone offended by my post - I want to say this. Clearly I am a PROPONENT of exercise. I said that not exercising has had little to no bearing on MY weight loss and that it worked FOR ME. Obviously I and everyone else in the world knows that you have to exercise to be healthy. The original poster - unless I read it wrong - was (rather angrily) stating that you HAVE to exercise to LOSE WEIGHT. That has not been my reality - I may not be healthy, I may not be toned but I have lost a lot of weight with little exercise (on average 1-2x per week for an hour each on a treadmill). I should have completed my post with the following: I sit on these forums day in and day out - and I see people complaining the band is not working for them or they are not losing weight - and the minute someone starts digging a little deeper and asking questions we find out that the person is exceeding the surgeon recommended caloric intake (we've all seen multiple posts like this). The person is not following the rules, is eating sliders/junk whatever the case may be. And I think to myself - weight loss is about CALORIES. Exercising helps burn calories - but in the end you can exercise all day and if you're eating way too many calories - more than the exercise is burning - then you will not lose weight period. I am a "bad bandster" for not exercising that much - but I will say this for myself - I religiously stick to the caloric intake recommended by my surgeon. That is often a difficult thing to do and took a ton of discipline in the first 4.5 months when I had no restriction - but was still losing. I'll end with YES YOU NEED TO EXERCISE AND SO DO I. But to say that there will be no weightloss without exercise isn't accurate. Again, you may not be healthy, you may not be toned and a lot of other bad stuff may occur without exercise - and maintenance of weight loss once at goal may not happen without exercise - but weight loss is largely about calories. So if you are going to exercise be sure to keep in mind calories (surgeon/nutritionist recommended - whatever that is for you). BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!!

WOW the truth hurts dosen't it? LOL... I am a single working (Mon-Fri 8-5) mother of two, an 8 yr old and a 2yr old. But I get up every morning at 4am and do 4-5 miles of cardio (1hr) and sometimes even strength training. It's the only time when my children are asleep and I have time to myself. Why??? Because I know I wont be able to fit it in at the end of the day. I'm too tired..but I also know that a good cardio workout in the morning will give my slow metabolism a extra boost for the day, it will help tone my body and the green tea I drink before my workouts puts me in a better mood and gives me a little extra energy to deal with my daily duties. Do I love it?? Not really but I will admit I do like how I feel after a workout. I do love the way sweat helps release negative toxins and feelings. and I also love a good stretch in the morning. I guess what I'm saying is you may not love it but it works, it's important, and your grown to like it if you find a program that you enjoy.
At the same time I want to stress..don't beat eachother up. This is a lifestyle change and for some it harder than for others. If you haven't been working out to help out your band, today is a new day and it not too late.... To the OP every pound is a success 30 pounds is not bad maybe they could have lost more in a year.. maybe not. Anyone who has lost 30 pounds is 30 polunds healthier in my book.

Jepegurl reacted to elcee in Dear Candy Bowl...Chocolate and I have broken up many times but stupidly I have never been able to resist "his" charms. Every time he calls I go crawling back. I tend to do better if I refuse to let him in the house but this must be an incestuous relationship as my DH and kids have something going with him too and they always let him back in. I hate to admit it but sometimes my need for him is so desperate that we have clandestine rendezvous at the supermarket!

Jepegurl reacted to eyeononederland in Dear Candy Bowl...Dear Candy Bowl,
I noticed this morning that you've been refilled by some well-meaning member of my team.
I also noticed that shiny Cadbury Creme Egg sitting there in the midst of all those other naughty treats.
And I walked right past you. Sure, I may have glanced your way for a minute, but don't misread that as a sign of weakness!
I don't need you any more. Yeah, you heard me.
I've moved on, mister. Edamame may not be as flashy as you are, but he's reliable and has always treated me better! I'm better off hanging with him and his friends Almonds, Tuna and Yogurt - they might not always take me for that wild sugar-rush ride, but they're dependable and they don't drag me down! They make me feel better about myself - you never did that for me and you never will.
Goodbye, Candy Bowl. It's been nice knowing you.
I feel sorry for the next silly girl that falls prey to your good looks and fast moves!
Sincerely,
Eye on Onederland

Jepegurl reacted to shues138 in I Promised Myself I Would Do ThisI promised myself when I lost 50 pounds I would post a success story, I still have a ways to go, but that was my rewards for a 50 lbs weight loss. Hopefully I can inspire you and if you need a buddy, I'll try to help!
I was banded in January of 2007 at 322 lbs. The first six months I was the model lap-band patient. Once I started a new job and new life, I basically blew off the whole process and I had a book of excuses. I'm looking back now and I was sooo not emotionally prepared for this (I was banded at 26 years old). Eventually I got into a very abusive relationship, the only thing he "loved" was my cooking, so I just kept gaining weight. I stopped weighing myself when I saw that I was up to 280 (my lowest per the md was 268) Finally in December 2010 he left and in January 2011 I met the dbf that I have today (who I love to death). I finally realized that I met someone that I wanted to get healthy for so we could have a long future together.
In August of 2011 I was presented to the emergency room with a massive gall bladder attack. In September, I had it removed, at the time I was 288 lbs. After the removal it felt like I could eat anything and eat I did! One day after complaining to my mother about how my pants don't fit, she says to me "you work at a hospital there has to be a scale somewhere" so I go down the hall and weigh myself....314 pounds!!!! I was so disgusted with myself that when I went home I threw out all the junk and bought tons of healthy food (chobani was my drug of choice for a while!). I went back to the md for a fill, they had me do an endoscopy to see if there was erosion (thank god there wasn't) and basically I have started all over again. Since December 2, 2011 to today I have officially lost 53 pounds. I can't believe it, I'm still in shock. I have a long way to go, but I literally take it day by day. Also my doctor suggested I go on Adipex which is a prescription appetite supressant. I really don't notice a difference from before I was taking it, for all I know the pharmacist is putting tylenol in the prescription bottle. Some people will get on me about this bit of information, but it's my choice and I'm following doctor's orders.
Food wise, I eat less than 1000 calories a day. I eat three meals a day and don't snack. I drink tons of Water....tons lol. Honestly I only keep track of my calories 4 days out of the week. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays I don't write down what I eat, but I make sure to pick healthy options and not to over do it. Once and a while I do have something extra, but it doesn't taste the same anymore lol Excercise wise I walk 2 miles a day or 40 minutes back and forth from my job to the train station.
For anyone out there that is a long term bandster, don't give up. Heck, even go get a complete unfill and start all over. That was the deal between the doctor's office and me. Try it all over again and if I don't get down to my goal weight (220) they will start submitting the authorization for a revision. Today was the first doctor's appointment where I didn't get a fill because they were impressed with my weight loss. I never thought that would happen. I really never thought I would lose weight. I guess I've "grown up" and realized that this band isn't going to do all the work for me, that I have to do most of it. I also realized I'm not doing this for vanity purposes....I want to be a healthy wife and mother, and I want to grow old with the dbf I have now (I think he's the one lol).
I will try to post pictures soon. I don't have any current pictures of me now, but I'll be going on vacation to Mexico with the dbf and will have pictures from that.
Anyone who is reading this, keep up the good work, you're an awesome person, and take it one day at a time!

I have been on 5 cruises since the lapband,. Only lost weight never gained any. I go to the gym every day at 6:00 and up to the room @ 7 for coffee. I am very happy with my choice of having a lapand.
I burp a little. I think everyone does.

Jepegurl reacted to pugsx3 in First Major Goal - Done!!!I'm a goal setter, so when I began this journey, I set two major goals, and then broke it down into many smaller goals to keep me motivatived and moving in the right direction. Nine months ago today I had my lap band surgery. When I started my preop diet, I was at my all time high of 306. I've really had to push hard the last week - but I'm thrilled to say that I've achieved my first major goal today. So, nine months, and 107lbs later, I can finally say that I made it to Onderland - I'm at 199.4! It's an amazing feeling, even though I know I still have a long way to go - but I can tell you for sure, no one is going to bring me down today!
The timing of this could not be more perfect - everything truly happens for a reason. I have to admit that I was one of those folks who thought I would be cheating by getting a lapband, and that it was taking the easy way out. I rejected it for years. Then my cousin opened my eyes when she got her band, and I started to look seriously into getting the band. One of my main reasons for having this surgery was to lose weight and be able to go out and get a new job, and not let my weight hold me back. I've always sold myself short, and settled for less just so I had a job. Well, on March 28th, my company announced that they were closing the plant I worked in by May 28, making it time to get a new job. They said that as they transitioned our work to new plants, they'd be needing fewer people, so they'd be making cuts all they through. Well, I almost made it to the end - last Friday was my last day, so I am now officially looking for a new job - and can you believe I'm excited about the opportunity? I have no doubt that I can and will do better, and looking at all the things I'm capable of is more exciting to me than you can possibly imagine. I would have thought I'd bury my head under a pillow and gone into a minor depression - but no - I'm looking forward to something new! They're giving us outplacement services, and I've talked to my consultant about my history of accepting jobs for less than I should, and told them I do not want to do that again. They've looked at my skills, accomplishments, and abilities, and they all believe that I should be able to get a job with a 30% increase in pay! It may not happen as fast as I want it to - they're expecting that fall is a reasonable time frame for me to expect a new position. I'm goning to work hard to beat the odds and find something sooner, as things will get pretty challenging for me financially by fall. But with a part time job and unemployment, I should be able to make it through the full 99 weeks worth of unemployment if I have to - but I'm praying I don't need more than 30 weeks!
