There is a different forum for religious propaganda, the problem is that Schrumm doesn't believe that she should have to use it. She is on a mission to save/convert us all. Because God is on her side she is above the rules and can post her stuff wherever she wants.

WTF? I’m incredibly bemused anyone would think I’d make a story up. Why on earth would I bother? As if I get incredible thrills by posting medical scenarios online. If anyone is that bothered, run the story by your lap band specialist to ask if its plausible.
    Here is the summary
    1. lady gets lapband in Mexico with bmi of 22
    2. lady loses weight to reach bmi of 18
    3. port head erodes through thin layer of skin as there is no protective fat layer
    4. port is situated on outside of abdomen until the lady reluctantly goes to a public hospital
    5. the unknowing doctors cut of port head and leave tube hanging out and send patient home
    6. lady goes to highly skilled lap band specialist. The specialist adds fill to the tube by ladies request and puts a rubber plug in the tube. Doctor cuts off excess tubing and pushes remaining tube back inside abdomen.
    7. the lady is very happy with the result
Unfortunately I don’t have the best photos but this is what I have. I was somewhat embarrassed by the highly prominent port head so never took photos of it.
Here is one photo showing its prominence and where it was situated on my body. The second photo shows my current wound which you can see is in the place where the port used to be if you use the proximatey from my bellybutton as a guide.

I don't want to stir the pot more but I agree that you should seek counselling. I am not saying this to be mean but you are risking your life to keep this lapband. You seem to have an issue with placing your bmi above your life. Which this is interesting point because a lot of people get the lap band to SAVE their life. I also have a hard time believing the whole story. No Dr, even a general surgeon would simply snip off the end and say oh this will work and if they did, I would sue. Right now you need to realize that your body needs time to heal, it is a high risk of infection even sepsis.

Where did you get that quote from Elcee...was it in a different post...by model?
This whole topic is completely bizarre to me. I am sympathetic at the fact that model has a tube sticking out of her, but can't wrap my head around someone with a normal BMI getting this surgery.
I call into question the original poster mental condition and the surgeon's professional integrity.

I have learned that since these conversations are all via text it becomes extremely difficult to pick up on someone's tone of voice so its important to be very clear and remember that.
I was mainly scared of waking up and finding out they could not put the lap band in cause my liver was too fatty to lift. I was told that's the main reason for the pre op diet to reduce the fat in your liver so its easier to move around. Even when I woke up after surgery I didn't feel anything different so the first thing I said to nurse was oh please tell me I have lap band now. She laughed and told me yes.

My Dr had no problem with soda but did suggest pouring it out into a glass and letting it sit for 15 mins then add ice if needed. But he did say the gas could stretch the pouch out so you could eat more so be careful with that. You should ask your dr, everyone is different.

This might sound like a cop out but for people who don't know about my band I usually say one of three things: I am trying to lose weight, my stomach has been bothering me too or I just ate. Like I said cop out. I usually don't have a problem eating big meals (well for me small) with my family. I do sometimes stare longingly at the food I used to be able to eat, but then I think I have 100 lbs and it doesn't seem to matter.

I watched that episode today, too. I watched the women who declined help literally waddle off the stage, barely able to move let alone walk, and thought to myself "wow if I hadn't been banded, that would've been me someday". How they could claim to be "happy and healthy" is, like the doctor said, the ultimate denial.
I can 100% connect my past to my weight problem. I know exactly where and when it started. To be specific, it started when I was about 10 years old and my mother ridiculed and shamed me for being "too fat". I wasn't fat back then, either. I was maybe 5 pounds overweight at most. But because I wasn't a bean pole like she was she was little, I was too fat in her eyes. By the time I was 14 years old, I started gaining weight and I saw myself as ginormous and disgusting from years of essentially being told I was. By the time I graduated high school, I was obese. By the time I gave birth to my first child at 21 years old, I was morbidly obese. Ironically, I had seen myself that huge since I was 10 years old, even though it took me years to actually reach that point. In a lot of way, in retrospect I see it was a self fulfilled prophecy. I saw and believed I was giant for so long, my body said "oh hey, I'm supposed to be huge!" and made that delusion a reality.
Now, though I can pinpoint where my problems started, let me be very clear about one thing: It is MY fault I am morbidly obese. Yes, I dealt with ongoing emotional abuse and trauma as a child, but my decisions as an adult are my own. No one made me eat until I was over 400 pounds. I take full responsibility for my own fate.
Great topic, btw. I hope it gets people thinking.

There will always be two answers to this question : 1. Don't drink, it's empty calories and can upset your gastro system; 2. Drinking is fine in moderation, just like everything else.
Personally I drink a maybe 1 or 2 times a week. I have lost nearly 100 lbs and am close to goal weight, so you can drink and be successful. I didn't get the lapband so I could live, what I consider, to be a restrictive lifestyle for the rest of my life. I got it so I could live a healthy and fun lifestyle. I was upfront with my Dr that yes I plan on drinking in the future. You know what he said? He said in a month you can drink anything you want. You don't have to be perfect all the time. But do it safely by listening to your Dr.
Also to address the whole "studies" issue. Yes there seem to be new studies coming out all the time about the benefits of alcohol. For example a new one came out finding a link between increase bone density and having 2 drinks daily.

It's best to consume your protein after your workout, an hour after. I have had two trainers tell me this. Your metabolism is going to be the highest after your workout and you need to refuel your muscles after working them so hard. When I did weight training and cardio 5x a week for two hours I was told to aim for 90 grams a day. Protein levels should be increase by how long and the intensity of your workout. But remember your body can only process about 25 grams of protein at a time, the rest goes in urine.

I am sorry that you are offended by my correction. Most people on here who are just starting to work out need to know the simple facts of exercising and weight lifting. Facts are more valuable than false statements even in encouragement, in my opinion. I wouldn't want your encouragement to make her believe that those three lbs on the scale she gain where all muscle.
Muscle takes a long time to build. But if you are trying to gain muscle you need to drink your Protein after your workout. You just broke the muscle, you need to supply it with the right nutrients to rebuild. The best way to judge the fat vs muscle on the scale is with measuring tape, how clothes fight and how hard you can push it. To build muscle it is going to hurt and you need to stretch before and after.

Can I clarify something? Muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 lb of muscle is equal to 1 lb of fat. They are both 1 lb. The difference is 1lb of muscle is denser than 1 lb of fat, therefore it takes up less space.

sam3841 got a reaction from Thats All Folks in Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
I have a really hard time believing your band froze on you. Actually I am saying there is a zero % chance that it did. Your band maintains the same temp as the surrounding tissue. Did your surrounding tissue freeze? Also its saline solution in your band which actually freezes at a lower temp then water. Your band did not freeze, if it did you would be in morge right now cause your body would have frozen too. You probably irradiated the tissue causing it to swell. Hot tea and soups will help reduce swelling.
