LisaCaryl got a reaction from gracesmommy2 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? It's been crazy hot here too! I hate having to go outside. Don't you have a "walking pad?" I think you were the one who talked about it, and that made me get one. I've been walking on mine every other day or so since my knee is feeling better. I can only do 20 minutes, but that's better than nothing!
It sounds like a few of us are stalling scale-wise. I've been moving down slowly and will take that! But hearing about you all, I'm expecting a stall too. On the positive side, I've been slowly going through my closet, and it's been fun! I have "new old clothes" that I didn't even realize were in there. Today I said to my husband, "Like my new pants?" He said, "Oh where did you get those" Me, "in the closet and I don't know how long I've had them or where they came from, but they fit, and I like them!" lol

LisaCaryl got a reaction from RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? How did the prep for a colonoscopy go? I will have one in about 6 months and am super nervous about the prep. I've had many colonoscopies, so I'm not worried about that—just the prep with the new stomach!
I've heard that our final weight can't really be determined until we are about 18 months out from surgery. I've been hearing people on social media say they have hit stalls that last as long as 3-4 months. It will be interesting what they say at your 6 month appointment. I wouldn't worry about anything at this point. I'm sure it's frustrating! I'm addicted to seeing that scale move... even though I don't want to be!

LisaCaryl got a reaction from RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? We sure have gotten quiet. Busy summer I'm guessing. Hope you are all doing well! I was wondering if any of you would like to keep in touch, as a group or individually, via Discord or WhatsApp? I'm better at seeing and replying on those vs forums.

LisaCaryl got a reaction from NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? That's all understandable! At least your eyes are open, and you are frustrated. Hopefully, that will get you back on track. I'm so afraid of getting to where I can eat more. It seems that I'm able to eat just a bit more each week. I remember when I could only eat half a bag of Quest chips. Now, I can easily polish off the bag. As much as I dislike being nauseous, it does keep me from eating much. However, even when I think I've eaten a lot I'm still under 1,000 calories. It's funny what now feels like a lot!
You've got this! I would get the junk out of the house and get things for the kids that they enjoy but aren't tempting to you. Keep some cut-up fruit and veggies in the fridge for easy grabbing when you need/want something.

LisaCaryl reacted to BlueParis in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Hi all! Sorry I've been in a whirlwind (I'm not sure thats how you say that in english...) of work for the last few days. The political situation in France is very unstable and unsettling right now and because I work with public funding it's been more than crazy. I'm in Canada but am having to unexpectingly having to fly back to France early later today ( was meant to be in the US next week) to be able to hit the floor running if **** hits the fan with the election results Sunday. That said... I am proud of myself because I put my foot down and will not work through the weekend. I'm going to a music festival in the loire valley instead and will dance and be merry.
Happy belated birthday @LisaCaryl! I hope this next trip round the sun is a good one and that by the end of it you are where you want to be.
@NickelChip I'm happy your holidays went well and applaud you making good choices when away from home. I've got to the point where I'm loosing very slowly ( 5 pounds in 6 weeks) and so am just trying to make the best choices I can without over thinking things.
I've finally dropped to 67.5kg (148.8lbs) (BMI 23.9) and have accepted things are going to be slow from now on .... I have three weeks of hectic work left before I'm on holiday for 5 whole weeks before starting my new job in September.
Once I'm on holiday I'm going to try and up my steps and focus on eating the best I can( and drinking less alcohol) and I'll see where that gets me.
@RonHall908 Like every true Parisian I know .... I leave Paris 48 hours before the games start! I'll be away on holiday for 5 whole weeks with my partner. The longest holidays we have ever taken. The games are going to be hectic and access to a lot of areas in the city are restricted - most of the bridges are also closed ... so we're just leaving the city... like every sane person I know!
That said... in France we get 5 weeks of paid holiday a year plus 1 extra week if we work over 35 hours a week (my case) plus 11 bank holidays plus basically unlimited paid sick leave plus like an extra day when you move houses, 3 days for a wedding, 3 days for the death of a parent, 2 weeks for the death of a child, 6 months full pay maternity, up to 5 days a year full pay for sick children under 14 etc etc etc ... so we only use holiday days for holidays so every summer ( office working ) Parisians tend to leave paris en masse for most of August - we all joke that the 15th of August Paris is empty every year ... so this isn't so specific to the olympics!
I did go for a walk in Versailles not long ago and saw the prep for the horse racing ... it's going to look so so cool with the chateau as a backdrop!

LisaCaryl reacted to RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Happy Belated Birthday!
I've never wanted to get on a bike and ride. However, since I've been on the stationary bike a lot. I think that's something I may get more involved with after I have knee surgery and heal up. The Heat is rough here as well.

LisaCaryl got a reaction from gracesmommy2 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Hey there! I'm glad you did see some benefits from the stall. My dietician told me that would happen. The scale will stall, but our bodies will still lose inches.
I'm doing well here. Nothing much new, really. It's so freaking hot out, and while I can handle it a bit better than I did with 50+ more pounds on me, it's still miserable. Especially the horrible humidity we get here.
My birthday was last week, and my hubby and I ordered me an Electric Bike! It won't be here for a while, but I won't really ride it until it cools off outside anyway. We are building a new home and will be moving in about a year and a half, and that's when I really want it. We will live where it's more conducive to riding. We live on a mountain right now, and I'm not sure I'll be able to ride it down the hill. I'll try!
Hope everyone else is doing well!!

LisaCaryl got a reaction from gracesmommy2 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?@BlueParis, you look amazing. I wish you didn't have so much societal pressure to be crazy thin. Being a healthy weight should matter most, then feeling good. I grew up in southern California and always felt pressured to be thinner than I was. Even when I was 116 pounds, I was told, "You're getting there." Looking back, I looked sickly thin for my frame.
My scars are pretty dark, too, especially the largest one. The others are quite small and not that noticeable.
I saw my primary doctor today and she wasn't at all worried about my A1C being at 6.1. She said we'll take another look at it in 6 months. She was very happy with all my numbers and thrilled about my weight loss. She said I was "boring and making her job so easy." That was a first!

LisaCaryl got a reaction from RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?I hope you have a wonderful vacation!!
My 4 months is tomorrow. I see the dietician and surgeon's office next week which I'm excited about. I weighed in this morning and I'm down 50 pounds. I'm very happy about that in 4 months!
Speaking of packing protein things, have you tried the Quest chips? I love the BBQ!!

LisaCaryl got a reaction from gracesmommy2 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies? How is everyone?
I'm doing well here. My knee feels a lot better, although I'm not sure it's completely healed. I've finished my steroids. I'm praying it won't flare up again!
Today was my weigh day and I was down 3 1/2 pounds this week. That's with no exercise and minimal movement, so happy about that.
I hope you all are doing well!!!

LisaCaryl reacted to Noelle74 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Last year I had given my daughter a bunch of jeans that were too small for me. I just got to take them back!! She brought me 10 pairs of jeans and 3 pairs I got to send back because they were too big!! The ones I got to keep were size 9’s. I didn’t want to go buy clothes yet because I’m still 9lbs from my goal weight and 19lbs from my surgeons goal weight. Very much in need of toning my stomach though. I keep hearing my surgeons words in my head over and over “skinny fat””skinny fat” if you don’t exercise you’ll look “skinny fat” ugh, this is my stomach right now. Never mind I’ve had 4 babies and that last one I had when I was 38 so my abdomen has not been bikini ready in a lifetime. So small win for me, I fit in a size 9 jeans, big loss…out of the jeans is not as pretty. Time to really get to toning and exercising and move onto the next steps in getting healthy. I haven’t stepped on the scale in a few days. Eating wise I have not been sick in over a week. All my vitamin levels are where they should be. Things are finally falling into place.

LisaCaryl reacted to NickelChip in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?@LisaCaryl I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. We're still pretty early out from surgery and according to the nurse practitioner in my office, a lot of the results at this point are in flux. My A1c went down a bit, but my cholesterol was all sorts of weird. Just keep doing what you're doing and give your body time to adjust. I doubt you're getting too much sugar or carbs at this point, but if you're doing a lot of sugar alcohols (sometimes in "low sugar" processed foods) you could maybe see about cutting those back. Otherwise, a lot of the studies for A1c and bariatric surgery are looking at results a year out or more from surgery, not a few months.

LisaCaryl reacted to RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?I've been trying to find all the podcast I can to get other perspectives post op. The other one I listen to is called "Active bariatric nutrition" podcast. The woman is a nutritionist. She has a lot of insight as well.

LisaCaryl got a reaction from RonHall908 in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Thank you so much for mentioning this podcast. I had to go to town to have blood drawn this morning, and I started listening to them. I started with the finale, and oh my gosh, they made me cry. When one talks about the best part of the journey so far and describes the thoughts she had as an obese person. I just lost it. I'll be 69 years old next week, and when I think about the hours of my life lost in "obese thoughts," it really hurts. Things like "Am I the largest woman in the room?" "What will the poor person next to me on the airplane think?" "Will I be able to sit at all comfortably in that chair?" "Will I break that plastic chair?" "Do I have to find sturdier beach chairs?" "What are they thinking of me?" etc... the thoughts have been never-ending and all-consuming at times.
I'm going to go back and listen to more of their podcasts. Thanks again!
@NickelChip Yay on the weight coming off again! So exciting, I'm really happy for you. I can understand the not being interested in food. There are times I even dread it. I try to shop for things that I like and they sound good in the store, but when it comes time to eat, I'm usually apathetic about it. Good luck with your vacation. I found some protein bars I like, but they will melt sadly. In case you haven't tried them, they are https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C4V2ML1C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

LisaCaryl got a reaction from BlueParis in February 2024 Surgery Buddies?Does anyone use the Baritastic app to track food? I'm wondering if there's a way to copy one day's stuff to the next. I often eat the same thing and putting it all in again is frustrating, but I've not found a way to copy it over.
