jacquelynn22 got a reaction from BlondePatriotInCDA in What Made You Smile Today? My daughter made me laugh last night.
She was getting ready for bed while I was watching Downton Abbey (a show placed in 1912)
She stops to watch and goes “wow that’s in the olden days, right?”
I said yes!
She goes “like 1989?”
. . . I died.
I said, Noooooooo!! Like 1912

jacquelynn22 got a reaction from learn2cook in Weight loss before surgeryYou got this. I had my surgery Oct 11th and successfully lost and kept off 15 pounds. It was a struggle but I did it, you can too! You got this. Best of luck!

jacquelynn22 reacted to SkyeBlu99 in Weight loss before surgeryI was also instructed to lose 10 lbs before surgery. I did initially lose that so my surgery is scheduled for January 30. Now I have monthly appts and if I regain the weight they will postpone my surgery. I have an appt on January 2 and I have gained like eight lbs back!! I am so mad at myself because I really don’t want to postpone surgery. I still have 18 days before my appt and so I’m being super strict now. Similar to what CarmenG said earlier: two protein drinks and a Factor meal in between.
it’s so hard though and I totally relate! My post-op friend said it’s much easier right after surgery because you don’t feel like eating so this pre-op weight loss might be the toughest to get through! But we can do it. I’m just trying to look forward and remind myself how much I want this change in my life. I’m so close to getting surgery, and I don’t want to push the date back. I want the surgery more than I want that (unhealthy food). Hang in there!!

jacquelynn22 reacted to Shanna NYC in Soft FoodI was getting sick of the sweets like yogurt and protein shakes in my initial pureed stage, but I found a few more options once soft food came around.
I actually like the Healthy Choice Lentil soup.
Eggs were one of my favorites since there's a few ways to make it for variation. Typically one scrambled egg mixed with one tablespoon of cottage cheese so it's not as hard. Or just a soft boiled egg.
Tuna packets were another. I would mix with cottage cheese and a tiny bit of light mayo. Adds more protein plus was smooth enough.
And one recipe i was excited with since it made me feel like i was having a pasta dish/pizza taste was the Ricotta bake.

jacquelynn22 reacted to ChunkCat in Soft FoodSure! It's this one, though I have to figure out how to adapt it to the stovetop. https://ketosisguide.us/keto-crockpot-chicken-and-dumplings-2-1004rk/
I also found this one which looks good too! https://www.thewickednoodle.com/keto-chicken-and-dumplings/

jacquelynn22 reacted to diadori in Soft FoodWould you mind sharing the Keto chicken and dumplings recipe? I definitely want that in my recipe box for now and after surgery. Thanks!

jacquelynn22 reacted to ChunkCat in Soft FoodI've been taking notes from @Arabesque and got 4 oz containers to prep mini meals in once I can eat again! Things like meatballs are a great tip, they are definitely more tender than chicken breast! I've been thinking that poached chicken thighs might be good because poaching makes the texture so much more tender. I also found this recipe for keto chicken and dumplings and can tell you now I will be having that as soon as I hit soft foods. That is my ULTIMATE comfort food. LOL I know some also recommend deli meat because the texture is so soft and goes down easy.
In our diet classes we've been encouraged to eat a lot of seafood on the soft food diet because the textures lend themselves well to it. I'm not a huge seafood fan but I've ordered some things to try when I get there. I'm still in the liquid phase right now. It is lasting forever...

jacquelynn22 reacted to Arabesque in Soft FoodI did a lot of minced meat dishes - just made sure they had gravies or sauces with them to still keep them moist (rissoles/meat balls, savoury mince, bolognese sauce with zucchini noodles, etc.). Chunky soups with meat & vegetables, casseroles/stews, omelettes. Would freeze up appropriate portions & then defrost & reheat for work lunch & dinner. Made life very easy only have to cook or prep a meal every few days & to have a variety of options available in my freezer.

jacquelynn22 reacted to Tomo in Bariatric BurrI got it in the first 6 months and stayed that way through years. Then a little more than 2 years ago, I had a revision for gerd and it somewhat corrected it. My doctor said it may be my hormone levels changing. For example, estrogen is stored in fat. I'm still colder than I was before I had any WLS though but I don't have that achy to the bone freezing feeling as much anymore.

jacquelynn22 reacted to BeanitoDiego in Pain a week after surgeryI am 10 weeks out from surgery and felt a lot of pain for those first 4 weeks. Could not bend over to tie my shoes, felt like something was pulling in one area on my left side, dull aches everywhere in my abdomen. A giant, flat ice pack was my friend... the kind that you would find in a physical therapist's office. I have a couple on had for an unrelated knee issue. Here is where I got mine:

Looks like there are some on Amazon, too. I was fortunate to be able to lay around for those first couple of weeks at least. Truly hope you feel better soon!

jacquelynn22 got a reaction from BeanitoDiego in Pain a week after surgeryI woke up with pain on my right side. Just felt tired today and uncomfortable. Anyone else experience this?! -
jacquelynn22 reacted to Arabesque in Pain a week after surgeryYou’re a week out from what was a pretty major surgery. You’ll be healing & recovering for a few weeks & will feel random spasms of pain or discomfort during this time. Sometimes it’s simply moving in the wrong way or bending or lifting that can cause what is like a muscle pull. There are often internal sutures to support your tummy & intestines which are easy to ‘pull’ or ‘strain’ if you do a little too much, too soon, or move too quickly. Same with feeling tired & having little energy. If you feel tired it’s your body telling you to rest so it can heal. It does get better & you’ll start to feel like your usual self soon.
Of course if the pain gets worse, is stronger than you have been experiencing or is persisting, get in contact with your surgeon or go to your nearest medical centre just to be sure everything is okay.

jacquelynn22 reacted to BabySpoons in What Made You Smile Today? One week out of gastric bypass surgery, I was a bit down. Tired, sore... so decided to watch something to lift my mood on TV. What normally would make me smile, chuckle or laugh wasn't happening. I thought. Oh no! Have I lost my sense of humor already with all of the hormonal changes happening? Shirley not
Post whatever makes you happy. I'm sure many here would love to smile with you

jacquelynn22 reacted to BabySpoons in TMI Poop TalkOne week, then once or twice daily after that. I take 2 stool softeners every day on the advice of my doctor. Softener is not a laxative, so your bowels won't become dependent on it. Keeps things moving. I never have constipation but notice if I don't have my daily movement, my weight stalls.

jacquelynn22 reacted to Arabesque in Bariatric BurrI can’t recall when it started either. I’m pretty sure I just felt my usual feeling more cold than everyone else response through the first winter which was when I had my surgery.
While some say it passes or improves over time, I still suffer from it 4 yrs out. I just dress accordingly & am prepared just in case. The alternative benefit is you don’t feel the heat as much.
