Yay! So glad you’re feeling good. I look forward to this. I took short term disability and have 6 weeks off so at least I’m off work struggling through this

DJB-S is Duodenal Jejunal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy. It’s been a very common procedure here in central Illinois.

Hi everyone! So today I went to my 1 month post op doctor's visit. My labs were impressive - thank goodness, as I was worried. I have lost 32 pounds since surgery 6/8/22. I did not lose any weight pre op, in fact I gained as I enjoyed a "last hurrah" eat fest. I was cleared for all gym workouts! Yaaaay! Also, no more protein shakes as I now need to eat food rich in protein. I am also on a regular high protein low carbs diet - 3 meals daily. I am honestly worried about this as my taste buds have changed, I'm never hungry, and even when I try to eat, I get full after 2 or 3 bits. This surgery has completely changed my relationship with food. There are times when I think of enjoying a large bowl of pasta and chicken parmesan and feel sad, but that feeling is short lived when I look in the mirror or get on the scale and can say, the sacrifice was worth it. We can all do this!

My plan actually says any full liquids do not count toward my 64 ounce goal. I wonder if that’s just to get us used to getting that in outside of protein shakes

That chart is wonderful @acopas! Thanks for posting that. I'm not worried about it, but seeing that makes me feel even better. And my energy, strength, mood - all doing very, very well. This is just a part of the process.

2.5 weeks post-op. 3rd day on soft foods. So many people say they have no interest in eating anymore. I am not that person. Still look forward to every meal.

It does get better - I am little over 30 days post op and my energy is thru the roof.
Give it time - you are still healing.

All of the above plus, don’t forget you just had pretty major surgery & are healing. Best thing you can do is sleep if your body wants too. It’s going through a lot at the moment. And enjoy those nana naps & long night’s sleep because you’ll soon be back to your old sleeping routines & not really have an excuse to have nana naps. ?
PS - I found, once through this period, my generally sleeping improved a lot as I lost weight. Went from averaging about 5 hrs a night to a good 7 or 8. That in itself was a big win for me.

Yea I was very lucky to not have much pain post op but I was tired a lot. Constantly napping I just gave in to it. I would set my alarm to get up and walk or drink and just binge watched shows I have already seen cause I kept falling asleep.

Yep, the first couple of weeks I was completely exhausted and had to take naps every day. Once I moved to purees and was able to get closer to my protein goal it started to get better. Give yourself lots of grace and hang in there!

It gets better. Took me about a month to start exercising. The liquid only part of the post op is hard because you are not getting in a ton of calories. My nutritionist wanted me to consume at least 900-1200 calories before i started to do moderate exercising.

Just had my two week post-op appointment. Doctor is very happy with everything. I've now been cleared for soft foods - yaaaaaaayyy! I thought I'd be on soft foods for 1-2 months, but doctor said do it for 2 weeks then I can move on to the final rest-of-my-life stage. Very happy with how things are going.

True. Good point and def no complaints lol. My office told me consistent dieting prior to the surgery making small changes impacts the liver just as much as a liquid diet. They only require you to avoid fatty foods and eat as lean and green as possible 2 weeks prior. Just liquid one day before. My liver was perfect doing that! I was super nervous that it wouldn’t be seeing everyone else on liquid or extreme calorie restriction lol

I can actually have pudding, oatmeal, cottage cheese and yogurt in my full liquid stage. I think my doctor is very different than most considering I didn’t have to do a liquid diet pre-op either.

You are losing fluid and electrolytes with diarrhea. Try sugar free ice pops as water may be exacerbating the diarrhea. Take sips of water if you do have water…tiny sips. Replenishing fluids takes time. Don’t overdo. Don’t go out in the heat. Be kind to yourself and rest. Maybe 1/2 an immodium? Also, sip weak decaf tea.
    good luck !

13 days post-op. Had my second work out - dance aerobics. Felt great, can feel the different in my weight and lack of back pain. But after about 4 songs, I crash. The energy/stamina is not there yet. I don't know if it's lack of food, being out of shape or a combination, but can't wait be able to dance for hours again. But right now, I'm extremely happy to be dancing without pain.

DAY 6 post op and today is the first day I would say that I feel pretty good. Not back to normal of course but I don’t feel lethargic. I actually went on a 30 minute walk! It’s crazy how quickly you can go from barely being able to move to minimal pain and discomfort. 11 lbs down from surgery date too.
