Shame on anyone that would judge you! That would be like someone coming in here shaming everyone for wanting or getting surgery due to eating habits.
Since you vape, have you thought about getting juice without nicotine?
Also, keep your mind and hands busy. Read a book, play a video game, do gardening... whatever keeps you busy. When you get that craving, drink a glass of water or go for a walk. Shift your thinking.
I've been a smoker for years. I quit for my surgery and it was so hard.
    Good luck!

I just embarrassed myself hardcore at the gym and had to share it... in the hopes someone here can relate ?

Usually I’ll start out slow on the treadmill because it’s really difficult for me to pace myself on the elliptical. All the treadmills were taken so I decided to dive right in on the E. Set my time for 30 minutes and *thought* I was pacing myself pretty well with the water. At minute 26, I started to feel a little queasy so I stepped off to center myself and walk it off.

Then came the gagging. All I could think was WIPE DOWN YOUR MACHINE AND ESCAPE. Had a few false starts, thought I might be ok, then all the water I had drank in the past hour or so exited my body, luckily into a trash can. Not gonna lie, i felt immediate relief UNTIL I turned around and there was an older woman standing behind me with the most disgusted look on her face (can’t say I blame her.) I gathered myself, wiped down the machine, and made my way out. She was talking to a friend as I walked by so of course I have to assume she was telling her about my very private moment with the bin.

Going back tomorrow fully disguised in a shirt that says “just had surgery, might barf” or something.

Anyone else had gym/public fitness mishaps? Please tell me I’m not the only one ?

Since my surgery, I cannot eat dried pastas or white, brown, red or black (forbidden) rice. But I CAN eat fresh pasta and wild rice and all wheat grains and many other grains.
My understanding is that the ones I can't eat continue to expand after eating, and that's painful with a tiny stomach pouch.
So, did some research. Rice and dried pastas can expand up to six times their dry volume either during cooking or after eating. Fresh pastas still are about halfway to the expanded volume before cooking and double when cooked, so are DONE EXPANDING when eaten, so won't cause pain or nausea when consumed.
Rice pudding and risotto have also fully expanded BEFORE you eat them, so can also be eaten with no negative consequences.
However, most rice dishes and pasta from dried have tripled in size before eating but will DOUBLE that INSIDE you. That's going to be bad.
My research has found NOTHING about the discomfort being due to high carb content. If you are prone to short term dumping, high carbs can be a problem, but although I can't eat a whole hard candy, I can eat a plate of fresh pasta with cheese sauce ( my version of Mac and cheese, homemade) and it doesn't cause dumping. I only get dumping from fresh pasta if I don't consume enough protein with it.
The problem with pasta is one of volume, not carbs.
Wheat grains (wheat berries, spelt, kamut, einkorn, farro, emmer, cracked wheat, bulgur, and others) expand to only 3 times dry volume when cooked, so the expansion is done during cooking, and no more occurs after eating. The same is true of barley, quinoa, amaranth, teff, millet, kaniwa, buckwheat, and a bunch of other grains. So, they all can be substituted in recipes that call for rice.
Wild rice isn't in the rice family, it's closer related to wheat and barley, do it also is done expanding during cooking so can be eaten without trouble.
I use spelt when I make pork fried rice. I use wild rice instead of noodles in chicken soup. I use kamut or wheat berries instead of couscous. I do have to adjust cooking times, or liquid amounts to reflect what actually is being cooked, but the recipes come out tasty and healthy.
My question for you all is, have you found any prepared pasta dishes you can eat? If not, try with fresh pasta.
Btw, egg rolls wrappers are essentially identical to fresh pasta and can be used to make lasagna without needing prior cooking, and without over expansion inside you.
Hopefully you can try some of these ideas and find out you have more food choices than you thought you did.
I am 8 years out from Roux-En-Y surgery, with several revision surgeries as well, and gall bladder removal, and I am still at my target weight, 100 lbs. down from pre-surgery weight. It has NOT been easy.

I'll bet you learned the same lesson I did all those years ago: Don't eat new dogfood in public. Sniff around it? Sure. But bury it somewhere safe and eat it later in a safe place.
    Good luck,

I just had a bypass done 3 weeks ago. So, I'm new, but I am not in the bathroom a lot. I have 2 bm's a day. I had problems with constipation right after surgery, but since then no issues. I haven't had to run to make it either. So, pretty normal.

So glad to hear you are recovering relatively well. That’s great that you have a scale that measures the small losses (less than a pound). Mine is supposed to and it gives me random weights with ounces but I don’t think it’s accurate down to the ounce or I would have seen losses more like yours.

Soo, I’m pre op and today is my husband’s birthday, so I’m doing the last supper thing and sitting down at a fancy place for a lovely lunch (venison salad so not too bad…until the tiramisu…but anyway) we were chatting about the journalism course that I have applied to start in July….there are so many options out there for writers….and I suddenly had a brilliant thought “ wow…I could be a food critic”….husband looked at me sideways “if there’s one thing that you won’t be able to do…” “oh, yes. Dam”
Anyone else got any funny stories to make us all smile?

The weird part is my protein shakes are dairy free because the milk ones ruin my digestion. I feel like it was the water chestnuts and maybe some vegetable skins? Either way staying away from that. Just meal prepped a bunch of pureed stuff too so I don't reach for something like that again. [emoji28]

Sounds like dumping to me. The nausea, the fast heart beat, discomfort are the first stages. Add in vomiting &/or diarrhoea & you’ve had the full on complete dumping experience.
Coarse, dry or fibrous foods tend to cause the foamies as they get ‘stuck’. Occurs quickly, almost immediately after or during eating. Lots of salvia, coughing to bring up what’s stuck & maybe regurgitate what you just ate - whatever was stuck. Foamies pass very quickly - regurgitate & a couple of minutes later you’re fine. Dumping occurs if certain foods like sugars are processed through your tummy too quickly & ‘dumped’ into the small intestines. Dumping occurs a little after eating - 30 minutes to a couple of hours later. It can take a a couple of hours to feel okay again after a dumping episode.
Dairy products (as can certain fats or fried foods) can cause dumping too so it likely was the protein shake. As @catwoman7 said, it may be a temporary upset as our tummy can be sensitive & fussy at first & something we eat one day without issue suddenly is disgusting or makes us sick the next.
Try some lactose free dairy & plant based protein shakes for a little while & see how you go.

It looks like we are about the same time in our post op healing. I'm terrified to eat because of that painful episode I had. I never want to experience that again.
Hang in there and try new things one at a time. I'm guessing it was the water chestnuts that caused your discomfort. They are probably not soft enough to digest yet. Our pouches are like little babies right now and have to learn what they can tolerate. If you have kids, think back to when you were introducing them to solids. Pureed foods, soft, mushy, and then tougher foods. (I'll remind myself, too.)
