    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Hey all, I'm coming up in a few weeks on my one year surgery anniversary so I thought I'd reach out and see how everyone is doing? The holidays were definitely a struggle for me, I wasn't eating what I should and I put on a few pounds, but I just started a 30 day challenge that I am hopefull will more than make up for it. I've definitely reached a point where I need to focus and work harder so now the real challenge begins, but I've come so far and I refuse to go backwards! I ended up needing to have another surgery in early December. All the weight loss led to lots and lots of gallbladder stones and after ending up in the er once I wasn't doing it again so my surgeon was able to remove it and while in there he found my hiatal hernia had relapsed and he was able to fix it which solved a bunch of other issues I had been having. Overall, I'm still super happy about my decision. I'm so close to being down 100lbs from my surgery date, but I'm over 100lbs down from my pre liquid diet weight so I feel amazing! Water, protein, and vitamins are always a struggle but I work everyday to try and improve. I hope everyone is doing well, would love to hear from you all, my anniversary is about 2.5 weeks away at this point.

Hey there, I've also been struggling lately. When I really focus, I do lose weight, but some weeks I definitely lose out to the cravings and I do see myself gain half a pound here and there. That generally kicks me into shape and I get back on the wagon asap. I'm 176 today, 175 two weeks ago, and I'm determined to get to 150 (I'm super short!) But these last 25lbs are not easy. I've started working out more regularly, but even that's getting more difficult. Got to get back to the protein first mentality. It certainly gets me full faster and keeps me full longer. Anyways, down 105 overall and 75 since surgery. Dealing with a lot of indigestion and some heart burn, so I'm having an upper gi with contrast next week. Hoping it's not a serious issue cause I do not want to have surgery again. Glad to hear from everyone!

Congrats! That's awesome! I finally broke into the 170s. Those last few pounds in the low 180's took forever, but I am confident about moving forward. I am quite a bit shorter than you, so I think I still have a ways to go to hit that weight victory. Won't give up though!

I am glad to hear everyone is doing well, sorry to hear about those that have had to have additional surgeries. I hope you all heal up quickly and get to enjoy the new lives you've worked so hard for. I am doing really well. I weigh in on Saturdays since I think to do it first thing in the morning on the first day of the weekend. I'm currently sitting at 180.2. Been two weeks now and I'm really excited you break into the 170s. I am sticking to a workout routine for the first time in my life. It's amazing how much easier it is to exercise than it used to be. No wonder skinny people do it so often! I'm working out an hour a day, 5 days a week with rest days on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The hour is made up of 40 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of muscle work. I can see I'm definitely going to have loose skin on my thighs, upper arms, and maybe my stomach so I'm not super pumped about that, but again seems like a small price to pay for what I can do now. I won't be stopping till I hit at least 140 and if I get there and feel comfortable, ill either stop or keep going. (I'm pretty short) I struggle with some of my old sugar addiction, but I feel more prepared to handle it now and get back on track. Hoping the next 5 months are icing on this 7 month cake:)

I had my 5-6 month check up recently. My levels are looking really good though my doctor wants me to stay on top of my hydrating. I also struggle sometimes with my multivitamin, so I got a "smaller" one and only take one a day with smaller more specific pills for things im really deficient in. I take a multi vitamin, iron, calcium, b12, biotin, and vitamin d throughout the day. The multi vitamin and iron are the hardest on my stomach so I only take them after eating and space them out. So it might take me 4 hours to take the multi vitamin and iron, but then I can take the other 4 much closer together. I'm working on building a fitness routine now also. Try to harden up and increase my muscle mass.

That's great to hear that antacids do the trick for you. I definitely know chocolate is an issue, so I'll have to start keying in to what else causes it and limit those foods with treatment for when I cannot resist ha ha. I'll definitely get around to updating my info at some point. Thanks for the idea!

I have my 5 month check up next week. I'm excited to see the surgeon again and hear what he has to say. I'm having some issues with acid reflux (especially with chocolate:() so I'm going to discuss that with him. I also was 250 on my surgery date. I weight in tomorrow, but my last weigh in I was under 190 so that was super exciting. Don't think I've been that small since early high school. I'm very short 5'2" so I'm assuming to get to at least 150, though 130-140 would be ideal. Glad to hear you guys are doing so well!

That's amazing, congratulations! I will not respond on the plastic surgery. Might be a question worth asking a larger group of people who have had surgery a longer time ago.

You look awesome! I am almost exactly 6 months post op. I'm a little over 90lbs down from my highest weight, but 60lbs down from surgery weight. I'm also under 200 and about to get into the 180s! Doing great with food. Also getting between 400-600 calories a day with emphasis on protein and fluids and supplements (bane of my existence). Not sure about clothing size cause I haven't really updated my wardrobe and miraculously my pants still stay up though they look pretty bad and I do have smaller pairs of jeans I've been wearing though and I keep trying on my stash of "I'll save this for when I lose the weight" clothing and it's all getting closer to looking seems, can't wait till the last of my belly fat disappears! Can't wait to hear from others!

I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but from what you wrote about what you eat and the exercise you get, and the fact that your losing at a good speed, I wouldn't say that snaking is going to be the issue, but instead what you eat. So far for me I snack rarely but mostly because I'm full most of the time. But if you can't eat too much at meal times and your exercising regularly your body just might need more nutrition. I would advise food tracking. That's the most effective way to keep on top of what your eating. If you do it consistently for a few weeks, you can see if the snacking is really throwing your calorie count and protein levels off. Try to avoid carbs with your snaking and focus on protein first foods. Then after the few weeks you can reevaluate. Good luck!

My first Chinese since surgery. I won't even tell you how much Chinese I could eat before surgery cause it's embarrassing, but this is all I could manage tonight and I felt so satisfied! Loving my new tummy right now.

Oh good point! Guess I'll hold onto my old "fat" pants for now so I can do a side my side comparison when I'm "tiny". I have noticed my toes getting skinnier ha ha!

I'm finally starting to see some results and it's fun. I'm about 7lbs from Onederland. My new job is really helping me drop the pounds since I'm forced to be active a large portion of the day, and I can't think about eating the whole time (just a shake and water during the 8.5 hours at work). I had to get khaki pants for the job, but couldn't find any women's, so I bought a pair of men's pants that fit amazingly (though already getting baggy) and I love love the deep pockets. Fortunately I have a couple goal pants in my closet, a small pair of women's khakis and a pair of jeans so I'll use those to show my brain what my body already knows. Thanks for the suggestion!
