I was told no crackers/toast. I’m 4 weeks out and am just now doing soft fish, tuna mostly. And my protein shakes. I can’t tolerate anything other than that.

Well ... the soup is made - broccoli, spinach and cannelloni beans in chicken broth and skimmed milk powder and chicken stock cube... have put it through my nutribullet and then watered it down to a very watery consistency... it’s very delicious but but but... I can only eat about 2 tablespoons!! I’m now really full! What am I going to do with the 5 gallons that I’ve made!! It will take me over a year to finish... even though I’m freezing it! I’ll need to buy another freezer! You must all come and visit - there’s plenty for everyone!! lol ??

Wow.. that's pretty heavy.. hrmm.. two things.. one.. and probably the biggest.. not sure your current weight but at mine.. the odds are I wouldn't live another 10 years at the weight I was.. and second my surgeon informed me the surgery.. while major isnt open.. in almost all situations.. its laprascopic.. and it's as severe as a gall bladder removal surgery.. which is pretty benign.. so ya. That gave me some confidence.

The biggest thing though was the first one.. the facts say people of my weight don't make it to 60.. so being 44 I needed to do something if I wanted to live.. which I do :-) best of luck to you.

I had my surgery for sleeve on wed, the 31st. I have been miserably nauseated and I can’t. Keep water down.
The nurse said she thinks perhaps my hole into the sleeve is too small. She sent the dr a message suggesting I may need a balloon surgery to widen the hole a little. Anyone had this done? I really want to go home today. :(

I'm just making it home from the hospital. Everything has been ok so far. Oh except for that sneeze I thought was going to kill me. I'm trying to get my fluid in. I've already have 32 oz today. I'm going to try to drink this protein water so I can get a 2 for 1

Day 3 post-op, surgery was Tuesday 10/23. Made it home yesterday afternoon after two days in the hospital. Pain is manageable on meds, but definitely there. Getting liquids in. Seems to get easier every day/hour. Have not seen any weight loss so far -- feel too bloated to even think it's possible right now. Trying not to be discouraged. My parents have been doing such a wonderful job taking care of me. It's nice not to feel alone in this. This thread has been of great encouragement. Thank you all for being here and being here for each other.

Some inspiration for all of you!! I was sleeved oct 1 and was feeling a bit down because the scale hasn’t moved much since surgery. Just tried on my slacks for work next week and they were too small and now they are baggy and hanging off me!!! ?

@camille88. You sound EXACTLY like the things I experienced. My surgery was on the 11th. My stomach made sounds too and kinda freaked me out. Lol. I think it's pretty normal. I had lots of trouble getting anything down first 6 days and the migraine was awful. I started drinking Propel for the electrolytes and it stopped the headaches. I'm on day 7 and things are actually starting to feel better.

Hey, just checking in (I read back through the thread to see how folks are doing. Thank you all for the well-wishes and condolences. ❤️
I just successfully ate my first cottage cheese since surgery (10/3), and I've done fine with Greek yogurt and ricotta (with just a little Italian seasoning and low-fat Trader Joe's pizza sauce, because that's what I have on hand). Balancing my nutritionists' "try to eat three meals per day" with "get more than 60 grams of protein" and "don't drink within half an hour of eating" and "get more than 64 ounces of liquid" is ... a lot, especially with going back to school and dealing with family stuff. I'm not getting all that much protein from my food, because I'm only eating a couple of tablespoons, maybe, per "meal." I know it gets easier, and if I'm only at 55 grams of protein one day (or, like ... three?) it won't kill me or make all of my hair fall out. I'm not freaked out about it, just sharing the struggle, I guess.
My vitamins make me a little sick, though as the amount of food I can eat increases, so does my tolerance for them. It'll work itself out.
Also, I joked to my spouse, before surgery: "I'm ready for all kinds of complications, so the one I end up with will be one I didn't think of." Yeah. Uh. I was allergic to something they used during the surgery. About a week afterward, I broke out in hives all over my torso and the tops of my thighs. My surgeon isn't very helpful: "try taking Benadryl, and if that doesn't work I'll order a steroid block for you, but I don't want to do that." (Steroids wreak havoc on post-surgical healing.) I've looked for information online, and most people get over them on their own, so I'm making due with hydrocortisone cream (it's a steroid, but only a low amount of it, and on my skin instead of being taken as a pill), Aveeno eczema-strength lotion (has a lot of oats in it, which are good for this kind of thing), and Benadryl at night. So... that's been awful. (They are very itchy hives. It's terrible.)
I can drink pretty normally again, now. I don't have to have these itty-bitty sips. I think gulping would hurt, and I make sure not to do that, but normal-size mouthfuls feel good. So... that's what just under two weeks out looks like, for me.

Sleeve 4 october, already on soft solid food (Swiss protocols are different) but had to add in some shakes to get enough protein. I am having trouble getting more than 1.25 L per day of water, adding in a couple of shakes helped get more protein and also liquids (I can count them as both :-)) definitely eat really slowly with meat and do the softest kind of prep (baked, poached/sautee in water). You can live on shakes but do try to add in one or two bites of whatever is allowed, its a work your way up sort of thing.

We've got this gang! So wonderful to have such a community to rely on! My surgery has been moved, one day, to 10/23. I've announced my medical leave at work (although I just said major surgery, not gastric sleeve. I think they all think I'm getting a hysterectomy!) Coffee and sodas are long gone. Start the (mainly) liquid diet on Oct 8, but have been substituting in protein shakes at breakfast already. We'll see. Giving up wine 10/1. It's so heartening to read your posts and to feel like we're in this together!

    Hi everyone!
I’m already on my pre-op low carb, high protein diet but don’t yet have a date. I’ve done my bloodwork, met the surgeon, EKG, dietician consult, psych consult, financing (I have no comorbidities -yet- so insurance won’t budge) I’m 40 years old, 42 BMI and crazy ready. I’ve completed the sleep study and will get my results tomorrow so here’s hoping no apnea, but if I do have to get a cpap the doc said he thinks a few days with the cpap will suffice for him to write his recommendation for the go ahead for surgery! (He’s a bariatric surgery success story himself and I work in the medical field so he’s willing to clear me more quickly than the norm.)
I’m getting the VSG along with hernia repair and a couple other tweaks my awesome surgeon is willing to do. I find this whole process is like that line from When Harry Met Sally, modified and paraphrased-when you find the thing you want to do with the rest of your life, you want the rest of your life to start right away!
I’m hoping for a late October surgery date. I am instructed by the surgeon to take 4 weeks off and the only time I can do that is the month of Novemeber, so the sooner the surgery the better.
I’ve started stockpiling bone broth (high in protein!) from sales and am studying my new instapot to figure out how to make supersoft soups and such. I got tiny bowls and utensils and have been doing a lot of reading and YouTube lurking.
Im excited to find others who are just about to change their lives too! We will look much different in 6 months time!

Ugh. While I do sympathize and validate the feelings expressed here, someone has just GOT to talk about the elephant in the living room with the pink tutu on!
Reality check here guys...your brains are totes SCREWED up! I don't know what does it. Maybe it's all the fault of My 600lb Life? Dunno...
But OP you've lost 14lbs in ONE WEEK (by your words Aug 21 thru Aug 28--that's 7 days if math serves me). Let me repeat that and shout it out for you: YOU'VE LOST 14 LBS IN ONE FREAKIN' WEEK! Instead of being busted and down, you should want to turn cartwheels. That's amazing! Congrats! Turn that frown upside down and get ready for the very common "3 week stall" that happens somewhere between weeks 2 and 4. You will likely average anywhere from 2-4lbs/week. This is not magic surgery. And WL will never be linear. It's the best thing that's ever happened to most of us. (And for the record? I've NEVER lost 14lbs in one week. EVS.)
    .
I honestly want to ask if you're pullin' our chain? Cuz let's do some more basic math: August 21 - Sept. 4 = 13days. In 13 days you've lost 20lbs. That is WELL over 1lb per day. LOL. That's phenomenal and you can't possibly hope to keep that up. It won't happen. Please read above at the 3week stall phenomenon.
You ladies, need to reality check your brains and reframe how you look at this surgical intervention. This is usually about slow steady progress--not huge losses overnight. But some DO experience those dramatic losses. Hell. You are both experiencing it right now.
Dig in. Sit back. Do the work and enjoy the ride. Cuz the weight loss WILL happen unless you screw the pooch. And nobody wants to screw the pooch.
Congrats to you both. I'd trade places with either of you in a heart beat.
