allwet reacted to FluffyChix in The Maintenance ThreadGosh one of the things this journey has taught me with regards to food and indulgences is that I DO have the power to choose and to change the game up. I do remember having those guilty feelings of failure and depression following a feast weekend. I would literally shove food down my gob every second I could! And food is using the term loosely. By food, I mean crap! LOL.Delicious. Carby. Fatty. Crunchy. Gooey. Pasta-y. Ricey. Crap. LOL. Hello, Tortillas y Tamales. Ola Enchiladas Chicas. LOL.
Then the next week following it, I wouldn't even be able to make myself get on the scale, much less get back into an exercise and eating routine.
Now following 2 days of eating heavy meals (not snacking on crap, just taking in double or triple my normal calories + limited alcohol), and up to 135 (pre-poopy LOL) and yesterday I sprang right back into the program. Got on the scale. Posted publicly to you guys about my plate and my weight and walked an hour both yesterday and today.
This morning I'm down to 133lbs (post-poopy LOL) and I feel like it was only a temporary blip--not a backslide into the old ways.
I will admit, I had anxiety and crankiness being at the top of my weight window. Kinda like the female cat in Pepe Le Peuw cartoons, trying to pry/crawl her way out of his smelly embrace. That was me trying to escape the reality of the scale yesterday morning--even knowing most of that was water weight. LOL.
But this journey and my tool reassure me that regain will only happen with MY HELP. I have to aide and abet for it to happen (barring some medical catastrophe).

allwet reacted to Healthy_life2 in The Maintenance Threadpre surgery, I felt like an addict looking for a fix on food holidays. I couldn’t wait for the great meals, leftovers and overstuffing myself. The weight gain that followed gave me stress/guilt/anxiety. First few years I was scared to indulge. I questioned if it would derail me or if I would go back to the old me.
I now indulge on holidays. I had to work on not feeling guilt/stress/anxiety over a slight weight gain.
I can control my food world and weight. I expect slight gains and fluctuations. I won’t have a significant regain if I weight myself regularly, keep my behaviors in check, and get back on plan when needed.
I have all of you to give me a smack upside the head when I need it.

allwet got a reaction from Unclechaz in I feel like I have mono- 3 weeks POYou have "Keto flu" most people dont realize but the weeks after surgery are the same as someone who does keto in that since you cut out the carbs and sugar your body switches to fat burning. the transition is different for everyone but the "keto flu" is a common reaction.
it does pass as you Fat Adapt and your body moves to using all those millions of fat cells for energy. Hang tough and watch that fat melt away as your body becomes a true Fat powerhouse. After i reached the Fat Adapted stage i had so much energy it was scary.
I couldnt sit down, i was always pacing and felt i needed to keep moving and doing something anything.

allwet got a reaction from Deedee12 in No protein shakes 1st week post op??agree with HOP_Scotch.
just follow the plan as directed. In a few months none of this will matter in the least.
when your there looking forward it seems long and daunting but in six months looking back it will all look like a moment in your life.
Work the fluids as much as you can. Dehydration is the big enemy you must watch for.
you can go weeks to months without eating and will not die, wont enjoy it but you will not die
just a few days without water can end you.
So its easy to see the real #1 goal in your life is always water. The rest will come with time. don't stress over the small stuff and except for water it is all small stuff
congrats on your surgery and i wish you all the best in the coming weeks and months.

allwet got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Gastric Sleeve after 50 (Senior Sleevers)Cowgirl try a spoonful of Real Peanut Butter it is very good at both making you feel full but also more satisfied than just a piece of protein. I also found a slice of bacon did the same thing.

allwet got a reaction from domi in Gastric Sleeve after 50 (Senior Sleevers)google or youtube "counter top push ups"
they are a great way to start and you can do them anytime your in your kitchen
also look for office workouts to see ways to get in more exercise using your chair.
the key is to keep doing it everyday even if you dont see a difference right away.
i did the push ups every time i warmed my coffee in the microwave and i drink a lot of coffee so it adds up

allwet got a reaction from ProudGrammy in NSV's Spring 2019 EditionI had this one but it was an office building with the windows that are like mirrors to reflect the light cause it gets real hot here in the summer. I rounded the corner and came face to face with a total stranger. It was a little unnerving to realize i didnt know myself. I have since gotten used to my new looks but it is odd the way we hold onto how we think we look and how long it can take to see the changes.
keep up the posts, i come to the NSV whenever i need a pick me up cause seeing everyone's joy at the small wins over life is a real upbeat way smooth out a day with too many downs and short of ups

allwet got a reaction from MAAANYC3 in Gaining!!!! Feeling lostryguy - are you tracking your food? You cant fix anything you dont measure. track every bit of food for 7 days and then look at those macros.
will you see carbs leading the way. The desire to eat after eating is driven by your insulin rising quickly after carbs and sugar and when it drops 2-3 hours later you will feel hunger again.
this up down cycle of your insulin is the driver of the weight gain train.
after you track your food for a week try this-
Zero sugar for 1 week - none of the fake sugars this week
no bread no flour for this whole week
no starches this week
no fruit this week
get your carbs from veggies
No snacking - eat 3 meals and take at least 20 minutes to eat your meal - if you eat to fast then try eating 1/2 the plate of food then stepping away for 15 minutes then return and eat the other half
good luck and dont give up

allwet got a reaction from AmazonLindsie in Post op 8/15 newbie intro and grhelin ?would you believe that you have cleared the carb/sugar addiction and your body has fat adapted and switched to burning fat for fuel instead of expecting a new dose of sugar/carbs every 3 hrs as before.
amazing isn't it

allwet got a reaction from Catherine Wible in Post op 8/15 newbie intro and grhelin ?oh it does but nothing suppress's the human mind. Head hunger is just as real to you as anything else in your life and it can drive you nuts if you let it.
you really have to work to occupy your mind with things that take a lot of concentration. take up a new hobby, get lost in a book or do crossword puzzles or my favor Sudoku's.
just try to distract yourself
avoid the idiot box (tv) for awhile. way to much hard sell.
good luck

allwet reacted to Paul Hufnagl in just wanted to introduce myself and say helloHello to all my fellow sleevers. I just had surgery on 08/01/2019. a little about myself i'm 51, single and live in anahieim california. I'm a RN on a surgical floor and have been around bariatric patients for about 14 years. the surgeon was finally glad to get his hands and scalpel on me. today is the last day of liquids.....finally. I love the support and the advice these forums provide.

allwet got a reaction from Livelychick in Post-op two week liquid diet!Distract yourself when at all possible. The head games have just started and can take some time to master(if ever) and what you learn about yourself and how you feel about food right now when you dont have any will set the stage going forward.
Get out of your head with a book or a puzzle or a good movie. whatever works for you.
avoid TV way to many food adverts
these can be difficult days but they only last Days and you will slowly return to a new normal with food you enjoy.
Take it one day at a time and know you have many great days ahead of you.
