Well ME personally I was banded 6/5 and last weekend I went out and got drunk. Am I going to turn in to an alcoholic to replace my food addiction? Hell no. Do I drink often? Nope. You are given directions/instructions and you choose whether or not to follow those. I chose not to for an evening. I'm 23 yrs old and to never drink again even sounds ludicrous.
Would I have had a drink 2 weeks after surgery? Probably not. But to each their own.

I wish I knew the answers to all your questions but i can answer the drinking and eating one! I was banded June 5 and have lost 28 lbs as of today, first fill yesterday. When I was about 3 weeks post op I could eat whatever with no restriction and was calling my dr begging for a fill, they said I had to wait 6 weeks. I cheated a lot but I never drank with my meals. I didnt want to get into a bad habit. That means I dont drink 15 to 30 minutes before and for 1 hour after. It doesnt really bother me so much except when I'm really thirsty then I'm counting the minutes almost. If you drink with your meal, the food will pass faster and you wont feel full as long.
Now, I am not in the green zone or even close and the first week I drank out of little medicine cups after surgery but after that I started drinking normal. I dont drink any different than before. I usually do not use a straw- I still carry around my hospital cup that has a lid with only a slit in it so I dont spill. Sometimes i feel full I guess from drinking.
I never had a preop diet so maybe I'm lucky? But I did it a lot right up till the day before my surgery actually. I'm not saying you should do that since your dr put a mandatory 10 lb weight loss goal for you. But a couple days of watching what you eat and not going too crazy shouldnt be too bad wouldnt think.
Good luck! Its been an awesome journey for me so far, even with some frustration, I'm super excited!

It my first fill today! Whoo hoo! I had my reg go to Breakfast for supper a fried egg on sandwich thin w a bit of cheese and had to not eat bread cause I was full. I guess I have a 12cc band and got 4cc's put in today and go back in a month! I didn't know what size my band was and never thought to ask till coming on here! Lol. My surgeon's nurse practitioner did it and not fleurons or whatever she just did it by feel and made me drink a glass of Water. It never hurt once but I could kind of feel it going into Band- how weird!
Come on more weight loss! Next fill is in 1 month on my 39th bday! Would be awesome to be down to a new size! I have lost 22 lbs on dr record but 26 on my personal scale in the morning in 6 weeks. My clothes are way more comfy but I have a bunch of clothes one size too small I can't wait to wear!

That's exactly how I felt and was thinking I would be a lucky one and not need a fill but what you described about yourself above was me spot on back in late April. Unfortunately the lucky ones not needing the fill are few and far between. I just got my 3rd fill this morning and I am hoping this will be the zone for me. My appetite has diminished and the need to indulge has faded. I got another cc this morning because I told the Nurse my stomach would growl after about 3.5 hours. Hopefully this did the trick.

Thanks a bunch Jim! I was hoping I was one of those people who dont even need a fill- lol. yes, I had that where I thought just getting it was working great and dropping pounds. Now I hope my first fill will do the trick at least till its time for my next one! The nurse practitioner I work with told me the surgeon doesnt put any saline in the band at the time of surgery so it just must be hanging out in there. I'm going to try to get back to exercising tomorrow and watching everything I eat starting now!

I was banded June 5 so like 4 weeks ago, down 26 lbs and go in for my first fill on the 18th. Starting to eat too much. I have been trying to keep under 1000 calories a day and was doing well but the past two days I have ate probably 1500 calories. I have no restriction at this time and I have gained back 2 lbs - pretty scared I will keep eating. I know there is no restriction but I was doing so well till past two days- what is wrong with me!?!?

Hey everyone! I like to give myself little rewards when I achieve my weekly goals that I set myself! Eg: go to the movies, go out for dinner, buy an item of clothing, buy a new handbag etc...
Is there anyone else who does this?? And what type of things do you reward your self with?
How will/did you reward yourself BIG when you get/got to goal weight?
I plan on getting a tattoo that I've wanted for yearrrrrrs... :-D but I have never had the balls to get it... So I made it my reward!

Losing weight vs losing fat can be two different things. I know we all say I've lost weight and that's almost always good. But I think we all strive to lose fat so don't be surprised if you lose fat but don't lose weight right away. Especially if you ramp up your workout routine.
This is how you will lose weight and if you eat band friendly foods and you can manipulate the band so it's doing it's job, you should lose weight.
1 lb lost is equal to 3500 burned calories. You will probably burn 2000 calories a day by sitting, standing breathing. Exercise a little bit and you can burn an extra 200 calories a day. So, you're burning 2200 calories a day. Eat only 1200 calories a day and you will have burned 1000 calories more than you consumed. In one week you will have burned 7000 more calories than you consumed. 7000/3500=2 lbs lost. It's not science but it's pretty darn close. Good luck.

Just reached day 20 and was emailing nurse practitioner that I work with saying I need a fill! She said no fills till 6 weeks and I have healed. I asked if I should increase my calories from 800 to 1000 and she said that it won't hurt for now and that it is basically all on willpower at this point. I have lost 25 lbs as of today so it's worth it to keep going. She also told me not to eat any slippery foods ie oatmeal soup protein shakes make sure I am eating solids like hard boiled eggs burger chicken etc. I was nervous about getting fills before now I'm counting the days! Lol.

I told absolutely everybody that would listen. Friends, family, coworkers. I even told the guy at the pizza joint because I knew he wouldn't be seeing me anymore!!! Everyone was supportive....except the pizza guy. I was a "cash cow" for him! LOL!! The only person I didn't tell beforehand was my mother, but that was because she's elderly with health problems and I didn't want her worrying and I certainly didn't want her at the hospital. I told her after I got home. There are always going to be people with negative comments and judgmental attitudes but they are few. I find those are the ones who just don't understand. Use the opportunity to educate them. Even now, 4 years and 140 pounds later, I still have no qualms about telling anybody. I keep my before picture on my cell phone and show it to people....I don't particularly like looking at myself though!

shellvw got a reaction from kim1974 in Day 9 Post Op Diet... Did I Do Any Damage?? Comments Please.
My dietician and dr moved me to mushies on day 7 and I actually started day 5, the dietician had said that between days 4 and 7 most bodies are ready for mushies in our seminar. All dr's and dieticains are different obviously. You will be fine I'm sure. When my dietician said it was fine for me to eat mushies she also said no more liquids with calories except for a glass of milk occasionally and for a special occasion but no more protein shakes, juice, or tomato soup. Like I said, funny how each office has different ideas.

First and foremost, you should follow your surgeon's instructions. That being said, I have seen more differing pre-op and post-op instructions on this message board than I can even put a number to. Seems every single doctor has a different plan. My doctor, for example, only had me on liquids for two days, then mushies two days, then all food as tolerated. I would not run to the ER just because I didn't follow instructions to the tee. If you're not feeling bad physically, you probably haven't done any damage. Just go back to your surgeon's instructions so you don't have to worry about it.

I took it a few different time! Made me really talk a lot and super energetic! Not a bad thing really. I did worry it made my heart hurt but maybe it was just anxiety? I read online it is banned in the UK because of heart issues. I found that odd because usually the US is pickier about drugs?
I guess for the most part it was awesome but I think it was because I was high on legal speed lol!
