buffalogal got a reaction from StratusPhr in Sleeve Revision to Bypass
Hi there! I feel your frustration. According to my new bariatric dr, this is all very common with a sleeve. Having had GERD issues my whole life, I was shocked they even recommended a sleeve to begin with. I have a stricture, as well, no idea what that is. I have my final consult today, and will keep you posted.

I’m 9 years out from my sleeve, and did pretty well for the first few years. But, I am now exactly where I started and dealing with absolute misery with a hernia and other stomach issues. My doctor wants to do a revision to a bypass. If you’ve been through the same thing, did things go better with the bypass? If you had stomach problems, did that get better? Thanks.

You can do what you want to do, but to promote it, is irresponsible. Everyone here is here because of various demons, and the best chance we have at success is cleaning up our acts and starting our lives exactly the way our doctors told us to. This kind of post is like going to AA and talking about having just "one little small drink". I'm judging you for encouraging something we know is detremental. I hope most readers ignore this and listen to their surgeons.

For me, this process is as much about beating addictions as it is about losing weight - obviously these go hand in hand for many of us.
If flat DC floats your boat and makes you happy then right on. We all have our preferences and methods that work for us. Sounds like your doc is farily lenient about pre and post op recommendations, as you commented on a different thread in response to my own regarding liver shrinking protocol. Many however are not - I think my own surgeon falls squarely in the middle and the stance is no carbonation, period.
Diet coke is one of those substances I consider a gateway drug for myself and my husband. Next thing I want hamburger buns and french fries and tartar sauce and then onto the fried foods lol - bad spiral.
LT1002 - text carries no inflection by the way - and if one is reactionary it tends to say more about the 'reactor' than the originator. If someone doesnt agree with you, oh well, get over it.

I stopped several weeks before surgery because I didn't want to deal with caffeine withdrawals while dealing with healing from the surgery. I started whitening my teeth so that I wouldn't be tempted to go back to them. I feel a million times better without all those nasty chemicals coursing through my body so I have zero desire to drink one again.

Its a requirement to take these classes through Kaiser. The classes are to prepare people how to eat healthy before before and after surgery. It was originally developed for the RNY surgery but they have recently opened up the option to have the VSG and Lap Band as well. I can't say what will work for you, but for me it was a gradual process.

I went cold turkey. It was hard ofcourse. I drank it up to 11:59 the night I started my preop. I put on my big girl panties sucked it up and dealt with the pain. It was nothing in comparrison to my surgery pain lol.

Diet caffeine free pepsi addict here. I can down a 12 pack in a day and a half. My husband joked that he should have invested in pepsi, we would be rich on me alone. It's going to be hard to give it up, once I am sleeved, but I plan to. It is not healthy, at all. Given the fact i am having my stomache reduced to 15% of it's size, go through the dangers of major surgery and the sacrifice afterward, i am no stupid enough to ruin it by stretching my sleeve with worthless carbonation. To each his own, but no need to be venomous when people give advice. That's what this Vertical Sleeve Talk is all about...learning from eachother, and supporting eachother. I hate to say, some lawyers make the lawyer jokes actual reality.

I'm actually thinking about going to the farmer's market and getting some free range chicken instead of the store bought stuff. Can't hurt to try it.

I was told when I was about a year out I could have a hard apple cider, if I opened it up the night before poured it and put it in the fridge.
9 days out I could barely get in a healthy Protein shake.
I know it's not what you want to hear, but you posted and I think having it at 9 days out was not a good move at all. What would your surgeon say. Pouring it over ice doesn't release the carbonation.
There is absolutely zero benefit to diet coke, you get zero nutrition. The problem with justifying that it is okay to do this at 9 days is that it leads to more temptation down the line.
I would definitely speak with your nutritionist about this.
ps I don't drink, smoke or do drugs either, so that's also just a justification for drinking something I would assume you were told you could not do.
Wouldn't it have been safer to leave it sit overnight, or even make them into ice cubes to suck on to be sure the carbonation was out.

I have done WW so many times over the last 35 years. Now, being 4 years out from VSG, I have had some regain. I just rejoined WW the other day because I thought maybe if I had some sort of accountability other than just myself, I could get back on track. I really have had issues with "life style change" post op and that's why I struggle. I'm not sure if WW is what I need, but it has to be better than what I'm doing right now!

I'm having dinner with family and friends for 1 last "hoo-rah" where I can eat and drink "normally" ....I do have these feelings that I need to make sure that I have my favorite Mexican, Chinese, etc. But when I think about it, I think....I've tasted it all, it's just food and at this point I'm tired of treating myself like a human garbage disposal. Looking forward to loving myself into healthiness and skinniness!!!

You're welcome. Everyone has a tough spot in their life, and I've been a single mom and went back to school as well. I'm fortunate to make enough money to pay taxes, and I'd rather it go to help you. What really burns me are people who don't have insurance, for whatever reasons, and then run up a bill in the emergency room, passing the cost onto those of us who do have insurance. That is freeloading.Kb88, I hope all goes well for you.

As a taxpayer and an insurance consumer, I have no problem with anyone getting the surgery, medicaid or not. I would rather someone get surgery and master their obesity and other health issues that to spend years using resources for all the side effects of obesity. I'm with you two. It is just wrong to deny any human being good health. In the end, one way or another, we all pay.

After reading all the posts about "eating one bite too many", I'm starting to really worry about what signs I will need to be looking for so that I don't overheat. I'm seriously terrified of vomiting, I haven't done so in 39 years because of my irrational fear. I've been nauseated, but I've never puked. I would much rather feel like poo then to have to hug the porcelain throne. Hahaha!
I know everyone is different and all of that, but it would be helpful if some of the post-op peeps could share their experiences with me. What things can I do to prevent vomiting from overheating or anything else? How will I know I'm full; does it feel the same as before the sleeve? I've researched and read my handbook, but I havent seen anything concrete that I can put in my memory bank
Sorry I'm such a freak, but I have to get the puking monster under control before August 1st. LOL!

Everyone is different, so you have to find what works for you. What works for me is to have a plastic Water bottle without a straw (since my surgeon says no straws for 3-4 months). I sip from it every few minutes throughout the day & keep it full with water or a Protein drink diluted with water. The one I use is 28 ounces, so I make sure I have at least 2 of them a day & usually have 3 of them now that I'm getting more active. I just carry it with me wherever I go throughout the house & out of the house. Now that I'm on soft foods & can't drink around meals, I make sure my water bottle is in the fridge and not near me while I eat, but I get it out again as soon as I can & drink out of it until it's time to eat again.
A guy in my surgeon's support group says he tried that once, but always forgot how many times he filled it, so now he uses the 20 ounce bottles of water & just counts how many he uses each day. He said his wife makes sure he recycles since he does it that way!
