I've been overweight ever since I was 14 years old.  I have tried every diet under the sun with minimal, temporary success.  I've even been to therapy session about weight.  I had a failed lapband that had to be removed in 2012 and I decided to try it on my own again. After blossoming to almost 380 lbs. and having trouble walking I knew I had to make a decision.  I went back to the nurse coordinator for the program that did my lapband for advice.  She recommended Dr. Shillingford at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, FL.   After meeting with him, I knew I would try again.  On September 22, 2015, I started my new life with a gastric sleeve.  I am a month out and have lost around 40 lbs since surgery.   It has not been easy, but mostly, it is retraining my mind that I my life hasn't come to an end since I can't eat sweets.  I am learning portions and taking it slow in what I can eat.  Right now, not all foods work well for me but, that is okay, because I know that each day it will get easier and in time, I will be almost back to normal except eating a lot less and healthier.  I've learned that giving up a few goods is worth gaining a life.
