Hi guys. I am scheduled for gastric bypass on February 28th in Iowa. I have been on liver reducing diet since this past Monday and next week start my liquid only diet. Is anyone else having surgery the same week as me? I need a surgery buddy!

First of all, no you cannot have your sleeve reversed or stretched surgically. This is a permanent, irreversible surgery. So you need to come to terms with that because there is no "out" at this point. Holding out for your "old" life is going to cause some serious trauma, so take a moment and let yourself begin processing the fact that this is your life now. Second of all, if the attraction to food is stronger than your desire to live a long, healthy life, then its probably time to have a conversation with a therapist. You can and will one day eat relatively normally again, though maybe not the portions you had before surgery, so you need to give it time. And the period of restriction is minimal compared to the rest of your life. But it sounds like there is some underlying mental/emotional things that need to be dealt with. If you truly feel that being able to eat "normally" right NOW is worth more to you than your life, or that the strain of post-op life is more than you can handle, please consider getting some qualified support. You CAN do this and it IS worth it. We want to see you succeed and be healthy and well, but you're going to need to get some help.

Thank you all again so much!

I have to admit, I’m getting nervous as these last 3 weeks are dwindling down… last night I was up late reading stories that kinda made me worry lol… some of my worries are:

Dehydration from not being able to get the fluids in

Pain (although I have a pretty high pain tolerance)

    Ending up with GERD

I was self pay as well.
No regrets what so ever w the surgery. There are so many success stories on this app and so many helpful dos and don’ts.
Many of us have been on here for a while so any questions feel free to ask. I’ve met some amazing people on here. Some were my sleeve buddies and some my PS buddies and some just met on here-all have been awesome to meet. Hope you love this app and find it as awesome as a lot of us do!

Sleeve_me_alone, I agree! It’s crazy all the hoops they make you jump just to deny you!

I will say as these last few weeks dwindle closer to “go time”, I’m getting nervous!

I did the exact same thing! Tried 3 times with insurance and always got so discouraged with all the hoop-jumping that I bailed. I finally went the self-pay route and am SO happy I did! Truly life changing!

Thank you SOOOO much!!!! I have been wanting this surgery for the last 13 years. Twice before I tried with insurance and was denied. So this time, it's self-pay. Im amazed at the difference between trying to go through insurance and self-paying.

Mine is 6 weeks. I have 3 more of the 6 to go. And the only real reason is just because of scheduling. My surgery date is Feb. 23, 2022, it was the next available.

My birthday is the 24th… the scheduler was like, “I wasn’t sure if you’d be wanting to spend your bday in the hospital… I was like, “Are you kidding? It’s my new birthday!” Lol

I wish I had really understood the psychological impact of losing weight beforehand. Massive weight loss may trigger a lot of painful emotions and make you come to painful realisations as well.
As an example, these two things are what I am struggling with most:
    1. People treat me differently (makes me feel anger and grief)
    2. Men are noticing me again (triggers anxiety and fear)
I really thought I had all my ducks in a row before surgery, but I’m glad I have a therapist I know and trust who can see me at the drop of a hat. I’d really recommend anyone to make sure they have solid emotional and psychological support before starting all this. ?

I had sleeve and I feel that my team prepared me for the surgery pretty well. The one thing I didn’t really absorb (although I know that they told me) is how easy it is to “eat around” the sleeve. In other words it truly is only a tool. If you wanted to you could eat a little bit every hour and still get in a huge amount of calories. It really is up to the individual to make better choices. Wish I could explain that to all those that think this is the easy way out.
