TX2NC reacted to FaithandHope in What I have learned over 1 1/2 years.I have a health app on my phone. It has every food possible and amount. 1/2 cup, 1 cup etc. I punch in everything that goes into my mouth on this app. It keeps a running daily total. My doctor told me to start keeping track of my calorie intake. So I did he told me to start at 1300 calories so I did 1300 for a week didn't lose. So I went down to 1200 for a week. I kept going each week until 900 calories. 900 seemed to be my sweet spot.

TX2NC reacted to momof3_angels in September 2019 ??I am 6 weeks out today. Drinking fine but not the full 64 oz... but nutritionist was happy with my intake. I can eat soft foods no problem, and most chicken if it isn't too firm or ground beef. I usually eat 3-4 oz of food but a little more if it is something like a soup with liquid. I have found d I do not do well with foods I really should t eat (learned that when trying to find food at Disney last week). Example, battered fried fish or corn dog or anything with unhealthy carbs. I am fine with soft fruits and veggies. But a salad wasn't a good choice lol. There are plenty of foods I haven't tried yet and find my tastes are changing. At home my favorite is homemade chili because it has some non meat protein along with the ground beef and because it has liquids I feel like I can get more in. I such at tracking my food. I am starting to have lots of energy, but then busy days wipe me out. Weight loss is going at a great pace considering I started at a lower BMI. I did stall last week but this week I am losing well again. I am down 44 pounds since May 20 with over half of that since surgery. I have gotten small enough that nothing fits which is a good dilemma. Finally have no residual pain when I do something that pulls at the main incision. Getting into a good walking routine and hope I can continue with this progress when I go back to work. Grateful that my doc gave me 8 weeks off.

TX2NC reacted to CoramDeo in September 2019 ??I have not. My calories are usually 800-1000 a day, and I have stayed losing to the tune of about 1 pound per day.

TX2NC reacted to Darktowerdream in Surgery specsI got my surgical report and I see it says “100 cm distal from the gastrojejunostomy a side to side gastrojejunostomy was created between the binary pancreatic limb and alimentary limb.”
also
”the stomach is transacted vertically creating a gastric pouch which is approximately 30 cc in diameter.”
it says a lot of other information but I haven’t had opportunity to truly read it. Even though I am interested in these things as you are. I actually didn’t get the actual operative report until recently.

TX2NC got a reaction from LadyVS in Lap band revisionHello All!
My band to RNY revision is scheduled for 9/13.
Honestly, my decision for bypass was 2 fold:
1. Complications due to band failure.
Even today, after having all of the fluid removed four years ago due to recurrent gastritis and esophageal spasms, I still struggle daily with never knowing what will get stuck, terrible reflux, sliming constantly with every meal, the chest pressure with eating anything, the nightly gas pains under my collar bones, vomiting, and belly pain. All this while eating way smaller portions than most, just to almost be back to my pre-lap band weight, plus all the problems I didn’t have before the lapband. I feel like I’m a Prius in the metabolism race. I apparently hold onto every single calorie I ingest, so malabsorption as a tool might be a more effective option for me. And removing the ban will take care of the issues.
2. My surgeon prefers band to bypass when there is a history of GERD. From my understanding gerd after sleeve is quite common. Enough so that one of the local research hospitals is currently doing clinical trials for a procedure to treat reflux specifically for post sleeve patients. I’m already experiencing a life of reflux and anything I can do to make that better instead of potentially worse is where I’m looking. I really don’t want the acute gastritis and spasms again! Nothing like heart attack like symptoms to get you started:(
My revision was requested as general surgery instead of bariatric, due to all of the complications, and approved 2 weeks after being submitted.
I will be having my revision in one surgery. I specifically requested that from my surgeon. He is comfortable with and has experience doing it all at once, so that is my plan. I’m very adverse to two rounds under anesthesia and post op recoveries.
One of the folks who post on the forums has a favorite saying: YMMV. Your Milage May Vary. Basically, your journey is your journey. Whatever decision you and your surgeon make whether bypass or sleeve is the right one for you. You have to feel confident and empowered in the decision process. It’s your health! Educate yourself, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and make the best choice for YOU.
Good vibes to us all!

TX2NC got a reaction from New&Improved in Surgery specsFrom what I’ve read, you’re right Mikeyy. It creates a short common channel, which from my understanding is the section of intestine that the gastric fluids get added and the food broken down.

TX2NC reacted to SorryNameTaken in Surgery specsThat's really interesting. It's amazing how every doctor has their own way of doing things. I'm not scheduled for surgery until 10/24, but I might have to ask my doctor what the standard is for his patients!
I'm a medical nerd too! I find the strangest things fascinating.

TX2NC reacted to Bypassgirl92 in I cant believe how far I have come..Hi everyone,
I just want to say this has been quite the amazing journey thus far. December 18th 2018 I went into my surgery at 285 pounds. 8 1/2 months ago was the biggest decision and biggest step I ever took towards changing my life. For the past 8 years I was a very happy and unhealthy person. Gradually becoming more and more obese by the day. I truly thank my family to opening up my eyes as to how unhappy and unhealthy I was. I first went into my doctors office at a very unhappy and unhealthy 304 pounds. My pre-op diet of protein shakes for 2 weeks helped me get down to 285 just in time for my surgery. I am now today 167 pounds as of this morning. I have not been in the 160's since my teens and I am now 27. I still want to lose another 37 pounds to reach my goal weight of 130 due to my height. But the sky is the limit baby!! I just want you all to know post op and pre op that I wish you all good luck and hope you had and have as much success as I did so far. Hugs to you all!!!

TX2NC reacted to catwoman7 in Slow weight loss 21 days post sleeve surgerya 30-40 lb weight loss the first month is the exception with "normal" WLS people. That's more common among people on shows like "My 600 lb Life", who start at way higher BMIs than most of us do.. I've been hanging out on this and other bariatric surgery boards for at least five years, and I would say the average loss for the first month is in the 15-25 lb range. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out at over 300 lbs. So I'm not sure where you've been reading that, but even though it happens occasionally with us more "normal" WLS folks, it is definitely the exception.

TX2NC reacted to NagathaChristie in September 2019 ??I had my surgery on the 9th. I am home now. And the pain comes and goes. I'm trying to walk more around the house and around the apartment building on the inside. I know pretty soon I will realize that it was worth all of this.
and it feels so amazing to have no desire to eat. I am no longer a slave to food.

TX2NC reacted to brandimichellexo in September 2019 ??Had my surgery Monday morning. Everything went well. No pain anymore, just pulling when I lay on my sides and when I walk. I took a shower when I got home and I got a red lumpy bruise beside one of my incisions. It’s going down, not so pink and bruised. Thinking it just irritated my cut. Feeling good so far!!

TX2NC got a reaction from KohakuSueda in Sept surgery peopleHI KohakuSeuda,
There’s actually a warning statement on the bottom of my pre-op diet sheet that says dizziness is common during the diet . Because the shakes are so low in sugar, it’s just enough to keep us above hypoglycemia. I’m on Day 2 of full liquids. Last week I had a meal and 2 shakes. Now, 5 shakes plus water like you.
I will say from my memory when I had my lap band, day 3 is the worst. For many it gets a little better.
Since sugar free jello is considered a clear 0 cal liquid, I’ve added those as well, just to feel the little bit of weight in my tummy. It seems to help with the hunger.
Best of luck!
