asnirak got a reaction from Mello1 in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!We are almost surgery twins too! I was the 11th, also down 17 pounds! And today is my first food, for lunch I will have 2 oz of ground turkey with gravy. Not that exciting I know but I am pretty excited about it! No stall here yet but I’m expecting it. Bypass here, and all my glue is gone.
I’ve never lost 17 pounds in my life, no matter what I’ve tried, so I am overjoyed at how well this is working so far. -
asnirak got a reaction from CammyC in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!Oh man! I did not have the 24 hour no liquid thing. That’s a BUMMER. Other than that our experiences were very similar. Glad you are home and doing well!
I am one week post-op and down THIRTEEN POUNDS. ???? -

asnirak reacted to Krimsonbutterflies in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!Sorry for the cancellations that keep coming up. Keeping my positive attitude because I know you all will get your surgeries in the proper time. It just wasn't in your plans to delay and I understand that.
I was originally scheduled for my surgery on 1/31/20, my son was shot on 1/21/20 and died on 1/22/20. He was going to be with me during my surgery and be my support and care system. I don't want to get into that, I'm sharing to say that sometimes we have to go with the flow and things aren't always in our control. Stay the course and if you are dedicated to your wls, it is going to happen for you. We will be right here cheering you on.

asnirak got a reaction from CammyC in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!I think I have entered what my surgeon called “the tunnel of misery”. I bought so many different broths and soups so I’d have a variety, and the idea of ANY of them makes me nauseous. I also can just BARELY stand the thought of any of the shakes. And I desperately want all the food my husband is cooking for my family. I know I’ll get through it, and it’s worth it, I just needed to share with people who would get it.
Also, I’m so sorry to the people who are getting canceled. From my perspective, I am terrified right now about developing complications that could send me back to the hospital in the midst of chaos. For example, I developed a little respiratory rattle in the hospital bc I can’t breathe deeply bc of the pain, and I’m so scared it will develop into pneumonia. Also I feel like while I’m healing my immune system is compromised, so I’m nervous about that too.
I don’t mean to devalue the experience of getting your surgery postponed. I would have been devastated. But there are some pros to it.
Now will someone help me get out of the Tunnel of Misery? -

asnirak got a reaction from Stinkerbells2ndact in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!@stinkerbells2ndact- I am also feeling like I prepared a ton but now that I’m here I’m not sure I’m doing it right! My program told me the first priority is 64 oz of fluid a day (which I have been ALMOST getting) and the second priority is 60-70 protein, which I have not been getting close to. I could bit that if I HAD just the shakes all day, but I’d really like some variety in here! Plus, I’m confused about how much I should be eating at a time. If my stomach is the size of a thumb, and I should only be eating like 1/4 or 1/2 cup at a time why is it I can drink a whole shake in one sitting with no problem? And should I be limiting myself to the smaller amount even if I can have more? On the other side, I have no hunger at all, so I’m tempted to just do the fluids, like won’t that help me lose faster???? I prepared so much and now I just feel a little lost. -

asnirak got a reaction from biginjapan in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!My recovery was going so well they sent me home early! And I feel pretty much great so far. No trouble getting enough fluids, everything is going down nicely. I do feel like I can maybe eat/drink more than I should be doing, so I’ve started being more intentional about it. On 2-3 weeks of full liquid, and not feeling stoked about that, but I’ll get through it. No hunger yet, which is awesome. I didn’t make my protein goal today, but my dr said for the first week the priority is water, protein second, walking third. The gas pain after the surgery was pretty intense but was gone within about 24 hours. Now that I’m home my abdomen is a bit sore, but nothing i need more than Tylenol for. So that’s my update! I am loving going through this all at the same and getting different perspectives. Thanks you to everyone who is sharing! -

Hi guys! How are you all feeling?
I’m doing really well. I wish I could keep everything as it is forever now. Haha. Although I doubt that my body would survive, I just am so relieved to have gotten back a sense of control on food. That said, at the moment the control is still coming from the size of my stomach and not my habits. Hehe.
I’m on puréed consistency food and so far most things have been ok. Although I tried quiche yesterday and it had tiny bacon bits that I knew immediately were a mistake. No throwing up but I tried to elongate my body and marched around for a good few minutes to get through it.
I’ve seen my friend get really really unwell at over eating. I’m not sure if I’m not pushing limits as much or if I’m just fortunately wired not to get them. I think it’s the latter to be honest.
Also after being anxious that I wasn’t going to lose weight quickly (and thus never hit my goal weight) in the last two days I’ve lost 1kg which is mental. I hope it’s not just my muscles eroding away. Haha. That would be sad times.
I definitely am burping a whole tonne. I hope it’s a phase. Even when I don’t eat. I think maybe I swallow air. Not sure.
How have you all been feeling about moving around? My surgery was on the third and I was back at work this week. However yesterday I went home for lunch and basically slept for three hours, did a little more from bed and then was asleep by 9pm. I’ve been managing to get in my 10000 steps a day. So am hopeful that I will hit my goal. I’m living in Europe but from down under and hoping to go back home for a visit at my goal weight as it would make my mum and dad so happy to see me really healthy. Here goes.... -
asnirak got a reaction from Arenee810 in March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!I had mine today. Still in hospital but everything is going great so far! No problem with getting water, broth or jello down, and not in much pain at all. Tomorrow I switch full liquids so we’ll see how that goes. So far everything has been so easy I’m kind of wondering what’s wrong. Like...did they not actually do the surgery????? -

asnirak reacted to sideeye in Recreational DrugsYou're not asking a stupid question. And it's not TMI. Goddamnit, people depress me sometimes.
First: when did you have surgery? Have you done coke before, and is this typical? Had you had alcohol since your surgery?
Just based on the timing, I'd guess that you've got a stomach bug and that this isn't related to the drug use. Anyone vomiting for three days would feel ache in their stomach. Did you have a flu shot this year? Are you drinking a ton of Gatorade or Pedialyte to make up for the dehydration? If not, your symptoms are just going to feel worse.
Even if this reaction has nothing to do with the coke or booze, you know that introducing a rogue element into a healing system isn't a good idea, obviously, and you'll be more careful in future. Good.
Few things make me bristle with rage. Idiotic responses like this would be one of them. Her question was related to WLS, since she's concerned there's been an interaction between the drugs and the surgery. She's asking for help because she's worried. I am incredibly angry that your response was the first here, as it is worthless.

I don't regret it for a moment. Literally the best thing I could have done. I remember being a week out and nervous as could be constantly thinking "What am I about to do to myself". Honestly, the best advice I could give would be to stop reading the horror stories online. I went in on June 10th 2019. I waited in pre-surgery for what seemed like forever which they gave me water and Tylenol. The docs came out and told me what was going to happen and then a short while later I was wheeled in to the room. It was chaos, but the nurse who had been with me stayed by my side. I was in the room for maybe three minutes when they said we just gave you something that's going to make you sleepy. That was it. Out like a light. I woke up in recovery and I was sore but not in incredible pain. Still groggy I slept off and on until about midnight when I had the gas pains in the shoulder and neck that I had been warned about.
The night nurse was great, she came and walked me every half hour and every time I walked the pain lessened. I spent most of the night walking, eating Popsicles and drinking water. (I hate jello but it was available)
Swallowing hurt at first but it was similar to strep throat. Not impossible or agonizing. By noon time the next day I just wanted to go home. I felt okay and was ready to be free from the boring hospital room.
For the first few weeks I slept in a recliner rather than my bed because the incisions were uncomfortable when I laid down. Not horrible pain but nagging enough to keep me awake. My wife set up protein shakes in shot glasses in the fridge so every hour or so I would get up and walk around and take a shot. I moved on to soups and finally that first scrambled egg meal was the best. I ate a lot of single egg omelets with cheese. In fact, my wife says I got so good at making omelets in the first thirty days that she'll put my omelets against any breakfast joint in town.
The hardest part was coping with not eating with everyone else when I returned to work and social outings. That and staying in clothes that fit. Thrift stores became my best friend as I was dropping a pant size every couple weeks at first.
A lot of people are put off as they feel others treat them differently as they lose weight and it becomes a mental barrier for them. For me, I completely understood because I was treating myself differently. I wasn't the same as I was before. My normal just isn't the same as it was before, but it's better. My quality of life has improved so much since June. I run now. Not like just a little. I run 3-4 times a week. Miles at a time. Before I could barely walk .3 of a mile. My confidence is through the roof and I actually like buying new clothes. I can go out and do things I was afraid to do before. So of course the people around me are treating me differently. I am different.
Will you ever feel like the normal you felt before? Probably not, but if you're like me your normal from before felt pretty bad. The new normal will be worth every second of discomfort and struggle.
P.S. If your surgeons office offers support groups. Do it.
P.S.S Take lots of pictures, you'll regret not having them later as you reach the big milestones.
