Info

Dr Wong is a specialist laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon, well noted for his very pleasant bedside manner, clear communication and dedication towards his patients.  He will always go the extra-mile to ensure all patients feel well cared for.  He has a holistic patient centred approach, and his care for his patients extends well beyond just performing their surgery.

Dr Wong completed his Medical School through Otago University, New Zealand in 2007.

His aptitude for surgery was recognised early on whilst he was just a first year intern, and he was accepted for advanced training in General Surgery the following year in 2009 – a rare feat given the competitive nature of entry to surgical training.

He completed General Surgery training in 2014 having worked at various hospitals around New Zealand under many respected surgeons.

During his training he was awarded The John McCall Medal at Auckland City Hospital for the best registrar, and a Lorenzo Capussotti Award and Travelling Fellowship from IASGO to present research on oesophageal cancer in Vienna.

In 2015, Dr Wong undertook further sub-specialist training in Oesophagogastric and Bariatric Surgery at Auckland City Hospital, where he was also the Chief Surgical Resident and a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at Auckland University.  He also worked to develop safer working conditions for junior doctors after-hours on the wards, and was part of a working group to develop Venous Thromboembolism guidelines.

He moved to Brisbane in 2016, working as the inaugural Fellow in General Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital, further honing his techniques in endoscopy, laparoscopic hernia, anti-reflux, bariatric, colonic and emergency surgery.

He has a particular interest in gallbladder surgery, with expertise in performing the most difficult emergency gallbladder surgeries through keyhole surgery.

In addition to working at Lap Surgery Brisbane, Dr. Wong is also employed as a Staff Specialist in General Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital, performing both surgery and endoscopy. He is also the Director of Surgical Training at Redcliffe Hospital maintaining an active role in teaching junior doctors, students, and developing hospital pathways to improve clinical care and processes.

He is pleased to join the team at Weight and Metabolic Solutions Australia.
