Andrew Wheeler, Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Andrew Wheeler is a bariatric and weight loss surgeon located in and affiliated with DePaul Health Center. Currently 25 of our members have Dr. Wheeler listed as their Lap Band Surgeon.

Andrew Wheeler, MD is a board certified general surgeon with specialty training in weight loss surgery. He also specializes in minimally invasive surgery to cure heartburn, hernias including complex recurrent hernias, gallbladder disease and colon and rectal diseases. He also treats the full spectrum of other general surgical diseases.

 

After completing his general surgery residency, Dr. Wheeler went on to complete a high volume weight loss surgery fellowship with specialization in the full range of bariatric operations, training under some of the leaders in the field of bariatric surgery in the United States. The benefits of weight loss operations in curing obesity and its related medical illnesses has led to his interest in providing advanced care to patients suffering from obesity.

 

Following medical school at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Dr. Wheeler stayed on to complete a general surgery residency under some of the pioneers and thought leaders in the field of bariatric/weight loss surgery. In residency his interest in bariatric surgery grew, leading him to pursue advanced fellowship training in weight loss surgery in St. Louis, Mo. During his fellowship he spent dedicated time training in the full spectrum of the surgical treatment of obesity, in order to be the most prepared he possibly could to offer patients the highest level of care.

 

Dr. Wheeler's training in bariatric surgery has helped improve his knowledge in treating a very complicated illness and continued appreciation for the difficulty that obesity places on a patient's life. It is for this reason that he has devoted his career to offering what he feels is the most effective treatment for obesity, weight loss surgery.
