Carlos Galvani, M.D.

Dr. Carlos Galvani is a bariatric and weight loss surgeon located in and affiliated with Day One Health. Dr. Galvani has 19 years of experience performing Lap-Band and other weight loss surgery. Currently 21 of our members have Dr. Galvani listed as their Lap Band Surgeon.

Carlos Galvani, M.D., is an associate professor of surgery and director of minimally invasive, bariatric and robotic surgery at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Galvani is an internationally recognized expert in minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgical techniques.

Dr. Galvani completed his medical degree, internship, and general surgery residency in Buenos Aires. He received special training in gastrointestinal surgery at the University of California San Francisco. During his fellowships in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery and in laparoscopic bariatric surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, Dr Galvani established himself as an expert in laparoscopic surgery of the esophagus and stomach, laparoscopic bariatric surgery and the use of robots in laparoscopic surgery.

His research interests include investigating clinical outcomes of laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the treatment of esophageal diseases, living-related donor nephrectomies and bariatric surgery. His studies have demonstrated that the use of robotics is highly beneficial for patients.

He has extensive experience in bariatric surgery, single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), robotic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, robotic surgery for gastroparesis and laparoscopic solid organ surgery. In addition, he performs robotic-assisted surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus, robotic-assisted living donor nephrectomy and robotic liver resection.

He has co-authored several book chapters in surgical textbooks and more than 90 publications and abstracts. Dr. Galvani is fluent in both English and Spanish.
