Eating too much!

Recommended Posts

I hate to admit this, but I am 3 weeks post op and eating too much! At 2 weeks I was able to pretty much eat would I could tolerate...now 3 weeks out I can eat anything and I am eating the wrong things and too much! I lost 15 lbs with my liquids but now that I can eat again, I'm so disappointed in myself. I"m hoping my fill next week will help out. Pretty much feel like I did before having surgery, think the fills will help? Had to admit that to someone:sad:

Fills will help, what you are experiencing is entirely normal.

What you have to remember too is that there's eating too much and there's REALLY eating too much.

Many people dont have restriction until they've had a few fills and are eating more than is ideal for good weight loss. That's fine, it comes eventually and if we were all so great at dieting, well we wouldnt be here would we? So do your best, but dont think that it wont ever work or that your'e somehow the one and only person who ever did this or who will ever fail with a band.

Then there's overloading your stomach. Eating past the point of comfort, eating till you vomit, continuing to eat foods that get stuck and make you vomit, eating so much that you get reflux, heartburn etc. That's serious, you can do damage.

So try your best, try to stop beofre you're stuffed, and take care of your stomach, but dont be too hard on yourslef for not being a perfect dieter just yet.

thanks for the encouraging words Jacqui... I'm not stuffing myself or hurting myself, but...like you said eating more than I should for good weight loss. After the first couple of weeks where I guess the stomach is still swollen in there, and you really CAN"T eat... I was getting used to that quick weight loss, not so much now. But I will try to be patient and hope the fills help me out......

Hello all,

I am only one week post-op. I am very happy with the band so far. I was stalled on my diet for 5 months in the 260's.

Today just 7 days post-op, I'm in the 250's:lol::thumbup::mad:.

If I have lost 15 pounds before my first fill, I will be ecstatic. You are doing soooo great. You should be proud!!!!

Good Journey!

Maggie

I agree with Jacqui and lpglarry. Your doing fine! The fills will help, and so will talking to your dr.

I found the biggest tool for helping me was always measuring my foods, and making a food log. This way your accountable for everything you put in your mouth. And measuring just helps you get the calories correct in the food log.

So when you go to your dr, or dietitian and say "i'm not loosing weight" if that should ever happen to you, you can pull out your food log and say "this is what im eating" and they can review it and tell you what to change or do differently. It really is a huge help, and gives us power over our food. If your hungry after the fills, talk to your dr, and dietitian, they want you to succeed as much as you do. there's no shame in asking for help from the two people who can give you the most support.

I use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal for my food journal.

Good Luck! You can do it  Just have faith!

Great advice from Liz. I use an online journal too and I love the idea of printing it out and taking it in. I think we are all a little paranoid that they will assume that we are just overeating. I use this one because it has a nice weight graph and it breaks down your total food intake to give you the totals for the day of Protein, carbs, sodium, etc. Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate

Did you experience any hunger during your first week out? If so, how did you cope? I was banded on Aug.27. I haven't had any issues. I am healing properly with no pain, and a lot of my swelling in my stomach has gone down. I am VERRY hungry :cool2::drool::tt1::drool::)!!! I even went as far as eating 1/4 cup of Scrambled Egg Beaters today. I chewed it up really well and ate slowly. I actually had about 4 teaspoons and stopped. I was full. An hour later, I drank a Boost Protein shake. That satisfied my hunger for a while. I am suppose to be on a 2 week liquid diet. I haven't experienced any nausea or vomiting. Good Luck!

Hi Realize,

I am ready to eat(I mean drink:wink2:) when mealtime comes around. But I take about 30 minutes to drink it. That takes care of my hunger till the next meal.

Good Journey,

You are doing great Maggie!!! It just gets hard. If I am able to just sit around and drink all day or do so in moderation with the shakes, it is easier to stay full. I guess I wasn't as mentally prepared as I thought I was for the 2week liquid diet. I pray I haven't done any harm to myself. I just have to find a variety of other liquids to satisfy my hunger. It's getting boring very fast to me, but I won't stop my journey now!! When do you get your first fill, and do you have a Realize band?

Hi Realize,

Thank you. I am happy about how it is going.

What is in your shakes? If there is anything sweet in them, could they be stimulating your appetite?

I am having Malt-o-meal for breakfast(watery 2T + 1 cup water) and liquidified (in the blender)98% fat free cream Soups for lunch and dinner. I also have drinkable yogurt,suger-free Jello, fat free/suger free fudgesicles and popsicles.

I'm on this till the 11th. Tastes better than Optifast and I was on that for 9 months(ugh:crying:), 10 years ago.

I have a 9.75cm/4cc Allegan Lap-Land. My first fill is scheduled for 10/7/09.

You are doing really well! I am using the Boost High Protein shakes (vanilla and chocolate Flavors), Hand Held Low Sodium Soups (chicken broth, Tomato, and Beef, Light Dannon Yogurt smoothies, whey Protein powder with Skim Milk, sugar free Popsicles, Jello, and this is all besides Water occasionally with crystal light packs and Diet V8 juice. That's it!!

What does the Malt O Meal taste like? I can't wait to hear how your first fill goes!! I have a follow up appointment on 09/11/2009, but I am unsure if a fill is involved. I was told that a first fill isn't done until 6 weeks post op with the Realize Band. I don't know? The only time eating really didn't matter was when my stomach was really swollen. Now, I seem to crave numerous food items, but I keep active to keep it off of my mind! Praying for strength!

Except of the shakes and Malt0meal we are eating the same.

Sounds like we are both doing good

MaltoMeal is same as cream of wheat but more flavor. It's warm and creamy like oatmeal but smoother.

My appointment is 6 weeks postop for my first fill.

I have been holding steady at 197. I have been going through a lot of stuff the past few weeks and have used it as an excuse to over indulge in the wrong foods. I swear if I could solve my problems without a danish I would be happy. I have almost NO restriction. I can eat and drink at the same time amd I can tolerate thick breads pretty well. At this point it is total self control, not lapband. I hoped to be at least 190 by now. I feel like I have failed yet again.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
