Two tips and oh, that Murphy

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday, Aug 17 and am still trying to figure things out. The more I read, the more I get confused, but I have figured out a few things.

1) pill splitters only go so far in crushing meds. After I use a pill splitter, I put the halfs in a large chinese Soup spoon (I have a bunch). Then I take another chinese Soup spoon (smaller) and use the two spoons to crush the pills. Very quick and easy.

2) before my surgery (and unrelated) I used extra brewed coffee and made them into coffee ice cubes for ice coffee. Still confused about being able to have Decaf or any coffee, but it is my understanding the amount in an ice cube is small enough to not worry. So, I'm still experimenting with the exact "recipe" but I use a coffee ice cube in my morning Protein shake.

And Murphy... of course, on day 5 of being home, my blender dies. And that, it appears, it something I can't live without right now!

Congratulations on your banding!

I use a mortar & pestle to crush my pills. Also great for crushing mint for mojitos. lol

Check with your doctor, but most say its ok to have a cup or 2 of coffee.

Good luck!

Joan

Get a bullet. Most of us wouldn't have done without it. You can get one at Target or Walmart or Bed, Bath and Beyond. Also, sounds like you are going to a lot of work. Most surgeons allow coffee. Check with your surgeon on everything. Also, check with your surgeon about the meds. I did not have to crush mine at all. Just took them with a sip of Water. I used and still use chewable vitamins though.

I have to crush my meds forever (per my doc) even though they are pretty small by pill standards. I bought a pill crusher at GNC for under $5 and it works great for me. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to use too spoons.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
