Sept 2005 bandsters post here!!

Recommended Posts

Hi September bandsters!

Just a quick update before I run to work! My current status is, status quo! I'm still at 298 (40 pounds lost since Sept. 6th) and haven't moved off that for close to two weeks...even after having my second fill. I go tomorrow for my third fill and hopefully it'll give me just the right amount of restriction. I have to admit, there are less foods that I can tolerate now...any kind of bread, cake, muffin, etc. for one, which I'm actually happy about because I really don't need any of those!

My first fill seems to be holding. Like alot of you out there, my band is a fickle one! I do feel pretty restricted for the most part. Put it this way, it's as restricted as I want to be. I never want to be the one that can only drink Protein Shakes and eat Soups. My goal is to have a decent restriction but eat real foods. Of course, there is limitation (bread, some meats).

I've been stagnant for the past week or so. However, I think I've lost a pound or two overnight. We'll see if it sticks around!

I had my 3rd fill last Tuesday and I feel very good restriction. I am now down to a total weight loss of 31 pounds. I can't wait for the moment when I can actually SEE the difference in the mirror.

My fellow September bandsters: I bit the bullet and went for my 2nd fill today. I admitted to the doctor that I can and a lot of times do eat way more than I should. (ex: I can eat a full chicken breast no problems) He gave me .6cc for a total of 2.4cc and advised me to be careful when I start eating. And hopefully, my scale will start moving again!

I haven't been on here for quite awhile. Been discouraged a little with myself. I've been still losing slowly, I'm down 33 pounds, but it actually mostly came off awhile ago. I have been getting in too many concentrated calories, which don't help! Not enough Water. But...I am finally seeing a little difference in my face and my rib cage and stomach. It feels kinda weird to finally notice a loss. I was thinking I need to have my 3rd fill, but now this week I seem to have more restriction?? Yep, probably my cycle. I currently have 4.5 cc. I was encouraged to see all of your progress!! It's inspiring me! Keep up the good work!!! I need to find time to change my ticker now!!! Karen

Today I got my 2nd fill and I am now up from 1.5cc to 2 cc. I had a 4oz of Powerade earlier and now it is 7:48 cst and I am eating sugar free pudding. I hate having to go 2 days of liquids and 2 days of mushy and then back to regular foods. I could actually feel the saline going in this time so maybe I will have a good restriction.

I have lost 4.5 pounds since my 2nd fill on 12/30. I guess this 2nd fill will boost my weight loss. The first 2 days were hectic because I could not get anything hardly down but after 2 days I was better. I do notice I can not eat cake since my 2nd fill. Yes, I know I am not suppossed to eat cake but I thought a little pc wouldnt hurt. Both times it hurt my chest, I tried twice to eat a pc cake. I can not eat sausage either. Everything else seems ok.

Good for you Jay!!! I can only wish I couldn't eat cake...I have no problem with cake. bread on the other hand is another breed..I have had to give up even my low carb wheat bread...it is just too painful. I will go for my 4th fill on Jan. 30th.

Hi September bandsters!!!

I had my fourth fill last Thursday and I finally feel like I'm getting to where I need to be. I'm way less hungry and cannot eat near as much as I used to. I'm being very careful and eating my Protein and veggies very slowly. It hurts way too dang much not to!!! I've dropped a couple of sizes which is nice and my huge tummy is going down...but I still don't see much change when I look in the mirror. But, it's early yet...by summer I should see some dramatic changes...I would think! We'll just keep plugging along...I'm doing better then I've ever done in my life losing weight so I'm not complaining that's for sure!

Keep up the good work all!! We'll get there!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
