Hey there Freedom Fighter 2009 !!

I'm a July Bander too (7/17/07 :blushing:) I'm just lurking on your board to see how excited you all are...

I remember how excited our Lucky #7 were when we got our dates..

Here's a little advice from an experienced bander for after your surgery

#1 - Follow your doctor's order to the T - that means if you are on full liquids - don't eat foods you chew :w00t:...

#2 - Your band is only a tool - it's not going to lose the weight for you - it doesn't make your food choices or exercise. This is truly not a diet - it's a lifestyle change in your eating.

#3 - As a learning tool - log your calories daily - measure your food - Keep your calories between 800 - 1200 a day and vary them.

#4- eat off small plates and use children's silverware.Get your 60 grms of Protein in daily. Small bites - chew very well and eat slowly (it's a good idea to start practicing right now)

#5 - Get some physical activity in daily

Good Luck on your Journeys - I love my band - but most of all I love me for the work that I have done - IMHO I did 75% of the work by changing my eating habits & adding exercise into my life - my band did the other 25% by providing restriction...

Aivey - I got to goal (160) in 10 months - I got to a normal BMI in 1 yr 1 month and the last 7 or so pounds just came off cuz I just kept eating healthy & exercising - I didn't try for them - I am at my happy weight..

Take the word hope out of your vocabulary and replace with I will. If you think you can't then you won't - if you think you can you will :0)

You can do it - you may not lose as fast as I did - but this isn't a race - we each lose at a diff pace - my Doc said I lost the weight like a bypass person...

Just focus on eating healthy and not dieting and move as much as you can...

I will pop in from time to time - you guys are on my subscriped threads - so if you have a question just ask..

My date is July 2nd in Mexico.

I have been "big" all my known life. I remember people commenting how the fact that I was a big girl as far back as the age of 5. I look back at those pictures and I was not a "big" girl, I wasn't fat, I just wasn't a little lithe stick person. I was active when I was young and ran around like crazy, fat and all. I weighed 120 pounds in 6th grade. The lowest I weighed in high school was 138 and that was for about 2 minutes. I graduated from high school somewhere at around 170-180.

My lowest weight in my adult life was 158, and once again, it was for about 2 minutes. I went over the 200 pound range in the late 80's or very early 90's. I've never been lower.

Of course I've been dieting since high school. Down and up and down and up, over and over again. Yes, I've tried almost everything except the Jenny Craig stuff or the pay for meals ones because I don't want to spend that money.

I joined eDiets a couple of times and lost the most weight on the Zone diet. I still think it's one of the best nutritional and most workable diet out there, but I just don't have the sticking power for the long haul. I lost over 30 pounds on the Zone, but after 4 months, I started slipping back a little.

In 2004-2005 I had some emotional upheaval with the death of my parents and associated problems and gained all the weight back over the next two years. Then in 2007 I took a job that added to my stress in very bad ways and gained an additional bunch of weight. I have changed jobs again and I'm in one that is very good and I enjoy but I still haven't been able to stick to anything and lose weight.

This is my path to the lap-band. I started looking at this last year, but I was afraid of not being able to eat oranges, asparagus, beef, etc. ever again. Also, my insurance won't pay for anything related to weight loss. Stupid on the insurance companies part. They would save a ton of money on the health related issues. I digress, I saw a program on TV and this lady about my size and close to my age went through weight loss surgery and she seemed content afterwards. Not craving, not edgy for what she couldn't have. I decided to start looking into it and here I am.

I'll make my posts pretty this weekend when I have a little time. Have to go to work now.

ee:drool:

EE - all our stories are about the same - a few changes here and there in the details - but more similar than differnent - the lowest I got pre-band was 165 for a minute too and that was a combination of WW and diet pills.

I too was a chubby child weighed 165 in 8th grade - lost weight the summer after 8th grade due to being more physical - walking a lot more and during high school i was 115 -120 and then 24 starting on the gain train - til I reached my heaviest 250 on 7/6/07

The band is a great tool...

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
