Stomach flu & the band...

Recommended Posts

I'm about 5 1/2 months out from my band and just got over the stomach flu.Wow that was something terrible, let me tell you.My body wanted to vomit and was trying to vomit and nothing would come out? I'm assuming that's because whatever is in the bottom part of the stomach cant really fit back thru the stoma?? Wow was that painful!! On the plus side I couldn't & didn't want to eat for almost 2 days & I dropped a quick 5 lbs!! anyone else's experience's?? I would love to hear...and I def. know the diff. now between pb & actually vomitting!!:)

My doc told me to come get unfilled at the first sign of the stomach flu. Glad you are better now.

My doc said the same thing. I had the flu about 4 months post op and I was violently throwing up for hours. Then it did the same as you, dried out and I throwing up nothing. The thing is, when the stomach is forcing anything up like that it can damage the band site. It can slip or pull away from your stomach. I didn't go to the doc either but I called and they weren't happy with me that I didn't go in. They made go in a liquid diet for 48 hours to make sure the strain on my stomach was fully recovered then I had to have my next fill under fluro to make sure all was still good. In the future I will go in ASAP, it's not worth the risk. I hope you are feeling better.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
