Left rib pain after surgery.

Recommended Posts

I was banded on te 27th with pretty much no gas pain at all, but directly after surgery, I started to feel a stonge pain under my left side of my rib cage. I can't figure out if it is gas pain or not, because I don't feel it unless I take a deep breath or cough. It almost feels like it is brused. It seems like where my liver is, could it be that is was brused during surgery? Has anyone else felt this type of soreness in this spot after surgery?

First off check with your surgeon. Sounds like to me it is some gas trapped and when you take a deep breath the pressure causes the pain. I had a lot a pain on my left side because my port is located there. Your body was put throught the ringer. So being bruised is normal.. Good luck and walk, walk, walk. Gas ex seemed to help with me.

That's from when they shoved your liver to the side. It'll go away very soon.

Your liver is on your right. Under your left ribcage sounds like trapped gas. You can also feel trapped gas in your shoulders/neck. If you aren't using Gas-X, get some. Heating pad will help too!

Oh dear, perhaps I should have given my surgeon an anatomy quiz beforehand...he told me it was my liver when I complained of the same pain. Well, whatever it was, it went away. Sorry for the misdiagnosis. Hopefully my band is on my stomach and not my kidney:unsure:

I just wanted to post what happened to me, I had surg. 3 weeks ago and for the past 2 weeks I have been getting sharp pain on my left side also. so bad that I started taking pain meds. again, I would ask everyone in my support group and post here but nobody seemed to have the same thing. it felt like my muscles were being torn if I bend over. Well I started my menestral cycle today and all the pain is gone. I think by all the swelling that goes on THAT time of month must have been pulling on the tubing from port to band, That is the only answer I came up with. I will see my Dr. on Friday for my first fill. The nurse thought I strained my muscle. Wait till I share this with them.

I was banded on 2/20/09 and I had the same pain on the left side right on my ribs. When I asked my Dr. he said He banged around in there and may have hit the cartiliage(SP) on my rib and bruised it. After a few days it started feeling better. Hope you feel the same.

I have that left side (rib/lung) pain every once in awhile after more than a year post op. I'm having it right now and it lasts for days. I go on liquids and that usually helps but this time it's not doing anything. As for your liver, your liver in on your right side and when it hurts usually, but not always you have referred pain on your right side. That is not to say that it can't be that, but I understand what you mean. It is most painful. Sometimes I think that when I'm lifting weights at the gym I'm moving the band around because my port sticks through the skin sometimes more than others and when I'm having a bout of that, the port is really protruding outwards. I'm just hoping it goes away before a half-marathon I'm running next week!!! D.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
