Are grits considered a full LIQUID?

Recommended Posts

I reaaaally enjoy grits, and if I add enough low fat milk or Water, can it pass for a full liquid? Could I maybe even just throw it in the blender?

I would love some about now...

My nurse and doctor said that grits were considered a liquid! I ate oatmeal and grits when I got out of the hospital. I like mine a little hard. I suggest you eat them slow and make sure you chew well. There is probably still some swelling and you don't want to experience it getting stuck. Much love!

I've wondered that exact thing myself. I love them too and wondered if they qualified. I'm going to ask the nutritionist tomorrow. There just a little hardier than some of the Soup I've been eating.

On my list of full liquids, days 2-14 it includes 2 oz at each meal of oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, refried Beans, Jello, baby food meats and egg beaters.

I was banded yesterday and I have only had 2 Protein Drinks fo far. I have no apetite and it's hard to get the recommended amounts in.

Thank you very much for the replies! I have to tell you I'm thrilled! I finally have something nice for Breakfast in the morning rather than some Jello...

I personally love milk, butter and sugar in my grits. Of course, I'm going to have to modify it a bit for it to be acceptable, I'm sure...:)

Thanks again! <3 :cursing:

I was told a FULL liquid is anything you can suck up through a straw. If you cook them runny I don't see why not. Cream of wheat was considered a full liquid for me.

I actually had a weird situation in the hospital post-op. My Doc's diet instructions are that cream of wheat/rice, grits, oatmeal are mushies, but the hopsital's full liquids menu included cream of wheat/rice. I had some runny cream of wheat with Protein Powder mixed in during the first two weeks, no problems.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
