Loose Skin!

Recommended Posts

Hey!

So I am being banded March 12... and am so excited! However my biggest concern and it may sound so petty is having a lot of loose skin!

What have you gone through with your skin thru the whole process? Some have told me they have a little but what exactly classifies a little? Also... is there anything you can do to help prevent it?

I hear you. That is the main reason I picked lapband instead of gastric bypass. I feel like I can control how much I lose. I have a coworker who has lost so much weight with bypass they are threatening to sew her stomach back together. See has to eat all day. :sneaky:

You are young so your skin should have enough elasticity that it won't sag, depending on how much weight you lose and how fast you lose it.

I'm in my fifties so I had some cosmetic surgery done to get rid of mine. I feel great!

i've heard of so many answers to this one. but it all depends on YOUR skin. personally, i've been a yoyo all my life, and now that i'm finally keeping this weight off, 65lbs into my journey, i can bet, i will need PS done. it sucks since i'm self-pay; but im saving my pennies as of now.

I was going to post this - so thank you.

I think I'll end up with lots of sag, when I have yo-yo'd in the past I have ended up with sag. From what I have read generally the most common saggy place is gut, tits and arms. All of which you want to look great when you are 29 and finally skinny for the first time in your life....

Might have to go under the knife again....:)

I've been lifting weights as well as running and drinking 4 bottles of Water minimum a day. I've noticed a lot less loose skin than before I started doing this. Hope this hlps someone out.

i know what you mean. that is one of my biggest concerns. im still really young and as superficial as it sounds id rather just stay fat then be a bag of skin. have talked to alot of women about the issuse and im pretty confident that with proper exercise we are still young enuf that the cologin will help us bounce right back! i tried to set up my appt to tlk to my doc about the lap band today! best of luck with yours!

I worry about it too! I have been really scruitinizing my body lately. I don't want to be skinny and ugly! KWIM? I wish I knew what I would look like exactly when I get to goal!

I came to the conclusion that if loose skin is in my future... well so be it. I have spent almost my whole life being so unhappy about my weight. I am 22 years old and am so self conscious. It is the only thing keeping me from being truly happy. If I can end this battle, I will be able to breath and enjoy my life a little more. I will be more confident and that makes everything worth it.

I can deal with loose skin. Loose skin doesn't cause illness or raise your blood pressure. It doesn't prevent you from going on an airplane or a roller coaster ride. It doesn't shorten your life span. Dont get me wrong loose skin will suck, but it is a risk I am willing take.

Totally agree, Bek! And in these days of Spanx or other supportive undergarments, it's not like anyone will even be able to tell! But they can sure tell how overweight and unhealthy I am now...

Bring on the loose skin! I'm ready to be HEALTHY again!

Oh and I'm also taking Biotin, and am going to make sure I get enough Protein, lots of Water, and exercise both cardio and strength-training. I've heard that all helps. AND I will buy a few great push-up bras.

Let's have a moment of silence for the greatness known as SPANX!

I totally agree with you guys  Spanx are marvelous and I would rather be healthy with a bit of saggy skin any day! I have tried diet after diet my whole life (my parents even brought me to specialists as a child to see why I was so heavy :frown:) and the band is the only thing that has let me loose any amount of weight successfully. If, and when, I have to deal with saggy skin, I will gladly cross that bridge. As of now, only my upper arms are sagging, but I'm sure there will be more to come... Even though it bothers me sometimes, I guess I can look at it as a sign of success. After all, the band is helping me become a smaller, healthier person, and that is a great feat. :smile2:

Well, I have what I'd consider "a little". I consider myself extremely lucky! I dont "need" surgery. But that tiny avatar pic doesnt tell the truth entirely, your best bet for looking awesome in a bikini is tiny photos.

Now, i dont want to compare myself to hollywood royalty, but these pics of Julia Roberts that are all over the place recently really cheered me up

Julia Roberts: Real Beach Babe! (Wizbang Pop!)

that is EXACTLY what my stomach looks like. Its a bit fluffier above the navel, but I have that wrinkly thing going on. I have a little more cushioning on the rear end than Julia too but overall, a very similar body type (same height too) and I ended up looking quite similar to that. I'd guess I'm probably 15 lb heavier though, all Hollwood stars are pretty darn thin.

Nice, normal, being 41 and having 3 kids I feel GREAT about it, but perfect, non marked and youthful? Nah. That would take surgery.

I look great dressed most of the time and for anythng slinky which shows those lumps and bums, yep, Spanx. You're so young, you really have a chance at pulling up even better, but its totally genetic, there's really not a lot you can do to influence it, but even if you have a little excess skin, your skin wont have lost elasticity like mine has at 41, so it will no doubt still look lusher and plumper.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
