I think you will be surprised how smooth everything will go. I was up walking about an hour after coming out of recovery. Dressed myself and went home. I didn't have any problems with gas, but did get diarrea, plus my stomach growled a lot. But both cleared up fast. You will do great. Maggies:shades_smile:

It's not bad at all. I was in at 8:00 a.m. and home by noon the same day. The pain was not bad. Just take your pain medication and try and walk as much as you can to get rid of the gas. Be strong and you will be fine. Good Luck.

I felt the same way you do now. I was just banded on the 12th. But I figured all I really had to do was show up. The doctors and nurses were there to take care of me. I showed up at the hospital at the appointed time and didn't have to wait at all. I peed into a cup and changed into a hospital gown and got onto the gurney. I spoke with the nurses about my medical history, discussed my procedure with the doctors and next thing I know they're giving me the meds to knock me out. I had to stay in the hospital overnight, so I had round the clock nurses checking on me.

You've gone through so much to get to this point, all the evaluations, required weight loss and doctor's appointments. Now all you have to do is try and relax and let the doctor do his stuff. You'll have to work afterwards. But for now just concentrate on your surgery and recovery. The rest will come.

Good luck to you tomorrow!

Hello!

I was banded on 12/23 and things seem to be going according to plan. Other than gas and a little tenderness, I am doing ok.

Hello BarneyGirl. I see you are from Colorado. My first thought was how lucky for you that you live in such a beautiful state and can drive through the spectacular views along your way to your surgery. I too had my surgery in Colorado.

I think most of all of us were a little scared of the unknown. It's not like what we have done is common like giving birth but in a way it is very much like giving birth to a new life.

I can tell you it was far less pain than I expected when I woke up. It was more like being super sore.

I was surprised at how fast I could walk without discomfort.

The most difficult part for me was teaching myself the new habits of not drinking large amounts of Water with my meals and also chewing slowly and eating small bites of food. I use to gulp my food. I do not do any of this anymore.

You are giving yourself an amazing gift which is the chance for a healthy life.

I wish you the same wonderful experience that I have had. Please know I will be thinking of you. Best wishes on this new journey.

Patty

Hi there-

Every time I say something about being scared or thoughts of changing my mind, my pal at work has been telling me- "Shut Up! You'll be fine!" It always makes me laugh and relax a little bit!

I go in on Tuesday, so I know exactly how you feel. We will be fine and in much better shape by summertime!!! :)

Let us know how you're feeling when you get home, if you feel up to it!

I am 4 days out from surgery and just made a 120 mile round day trip to see friends. I feel fine just a bit tired. My daughter drove and my son-in-law and grandkids sang Christmas songs and we had a ball. You will be just fine and I can't wait to hear from you afterward. We will all become thin together.

hi there,

I was banded on december 5..I'm feeling good! I'm eating solids now and even though I lost about 20 on the preop diet, I've been holding pretty steady since then. I'm trying to be logical about that and patient for my fill date (1/13)...then I'll really start to see results.

Also, I haven't been brave enough to go back to the gym yet...but my kids go back to school on monday and I guess that will be my cue to start moving my butt...

you'll be fine! I was outpatient. in at 7 out by 2...slept away the weekend (surg was on friday) and then drove my kids to school on monday morning. (though I did come back home and crawl into bed for a few days)...but I drove and made dinner and gave baths and changed diapers....life as usual!

good luck..the toughest part is deciding to do it..after that, I think our bands will be our best friends.

good luck!

Aviva

Well it is 7:30 just three more hours so far I am feeling ok about this. Now though I am thinking did I research this enough, what are the long term effects of the band, and will it still be working w/me in 10 years?

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
