YAY JOhn!!! You look AMAZING! Your just shrinking away!

Laurel I cant believe you came to the meeting yesterday you are a soldier!! You look great and Im glad you came. It was great to see you. Keep walkin and dont push yourself too hard. Exercise will come in time!

Speaking of I really want to find a good Zumba DVD anyone here have one they can suggest. I cancelled my gym membership since they dont have a 24 hour in ANacortes and its just an added expense I dont want right now. I am going to buy some dvds and try to kick into gear at home.

Donna you did a fabulous job speaking yesterday at the meeting. FOr those of you that werent there we walked in and she was dressed in this really nice eater looking outfit. But let me tell you it was HUGE on her. I was sitting there thinking WTF is Donna thinking wearing that and trying to think man Im gunna have to tell her she looks like a bag lady. LOL.. well thank GOD it was part of her presentation. SHe peeled off her layers and out came our donna!! PHEW was the first thing I thought when she took that outfit off. LOL. It was super funny. We missed you guys that couldnt make it.

Ali, it was great to see you too. Im serious we are super close so if you ever want to hang out and get a coffee or something call me. I will PM you my number. I cant wait to see when your surgery date is!!! The 5th will be here in no time!!

Well I just woke up. I came home from the meeting and lunch, got into bed and didnt wake up until 11 today. WOW 18 hours of sleep. MAN my body must have needed it for sure. Gunna get something to eat and then figure out what the day is going to have instore. lol.

Happy Sunday everyone!!

John, I just got a look at your pics. Wow! is all I can say. I'm doing better the last few days. The only thing I'm hurling at this point are my Vitamins. food is staying down ok but I'm really leaving the meal without being at all full because I'm afraid of that "one bite too many".

CoCo, that's such a great story about Donna. I have a feeling you meant she was in an Easter outfit, not an eater outfit but it was very funny to read as written. :o Great on getting so much sleep last night!

Tamra, I hope you stuck to your low carb while working today. You'll be amazed at how quickly the cravings for all the other junk food leave you.

Is anyone besides me watching the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution show? I think it's the best program on TV right now. So scary to see what the schools in America feed the kids. No wonder childhood obesity is an epidemic.

Happy Sunday everyone. I'm going out for a walk this afternoon, then to a movie later today.

It was great seeing everyone yesterday even though I had to go home, take some pain medication and take a long nap. LOL. I am feeling really good today though.

Nicole, I tried the pudding and voila... it stayed down and didn't hurt. Yippee!! Thanks for the advice. I will also ease into working out again. I was frustrated with how slow I am getting my strength back.

Donna, your "stripping" away the layers was so funny. I remember thinking... why is she wearing such a huge top? And then it made perfect sense.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Well we made it to Phoenix today at 6 pm. I am so tired of driving that rv - drove about 800 miles since yesterday morning. We will be here until Thursday morning so I will get a break before driving back home. I went to high school in Avondale which is a suburb of Phoenix - as I drove past the streets I used to see I was getting some dejavu. But boy everything has built up since 1980. I am going to ask my brother to take us to the high school.

Did good with my food today - Protein Drink for br, 1 veggie springroll from Panda Express for lunch and 2 shrimp, 1 oz Sunchips and handful of pretzels while driving, 1/3 cup steak and 1/3 c potato salad for dinner.< /p>

Pam - have a great time in Phoenix.

Tam - how is the new house? Congrats on finding a school for Brianna. Yoga is great - I love it - I have been doing it on and off for about 5 years, but when I put on this last round of weight I got too big to do it confortably. It felt really good to go back. There is so much to it and it really relaxes me. I am going to try Tuesday night also. It would be great if I could do it 2 - 3 times a week.

John - wow - great news on down 30lbs! You rock!

Lee - you look like you are doing great too.

Laurel - be patient with yourself - it takes time to get your strength back. It was terrific that you got to a meeting so quickly.

Donna - want to hear what your talk and 'strip' was all about!!!

Jes - glad the restriction is working for you. I can't wait until I get my first fill.

CoCo - 18 hrs!!! Hope you aren't getting sick again.

I did better with food today

B. - 2 scrambled eggs with ff cheese, 1/3 c fruit salad

L. - left over walnut shrimp (4oz), 2 tbsp LF cottage cheese

D. - 1/3 c chicken, 2 tbsp of salad, 1 tbsp of paella rice & veggies

Hi to everyone else - hope you had a good weekend and have a good Monday.

What a great time I had Saturday; thanks everyone for making me feel welcome. Donna, your presentation was fabulous! I was thinking weird thoughts in my head when I saw the outfit you were wearing and I was thinking about what someone said last month about seeing yourself in the old way and not in the new body...I thought, Wow, Donna can't seem to drop the big clothes...lol jokes on us! Great job Donna.

Laurel, you are impressive! You looked fantastic for being less than a week out of surgery and I am glad you came. Thanks so much for the clothes--love them all.

John, wow 30 lbs is great. Your head is definately in the right place, I can tell just by talking to you. Keep it up..you are motiviating.

It's great to have all of you for support. My life for the past 18 years has been my sons and I feel like finally I am at a point in my life where I can take care of me--and you guys are helping me with that! Thanks so much.

Have a great week everyone!

Ali - so glad the support is helping. This is a great group.

Laurel - how are things this morning?

Tam - glad the move is going ok.

I am really focusing on the Protein - I think it is helping to make me feel a little fuller.

Also even if the scale isn't moving - my clothes are looser. I put on some slacks this morning and they were a little snug in the waist 3 weeks ago, but today they are loose - a little diaper butt too! I tried another pair that is part of a suit and they fell off! So maybe the fat is shifting around - LOL.

Anyway let me know if anyone needs size 16 work clothes and I will save for our get together in April when we say goodbye to CoCo.

Here is my food so far:

B. - 2 oz chicken, 1/3 c. LF cottage cheese.< /p>

L (planned - I brought with me to work) - 3 oz. chicken, 3 tbsp. brocolli, 1/4 peeled pear.

Good morning everyone,

Pat, things started off way rough today. I had this sore on my wrist and after hearing Nicole's story of the bug bite gone crazy, I decided to go have my doctor look at it. He doesn't think it is a bug bite, but it is definitely infected so I am on these horse sized antibiotics now that I have to cut into tiny pieces and chew up. Blech. He also checked my asthma and sure enough I was at a low oxygen level so back on 2 more meds. Then just to be totally anal, he checked my foot that I hurt last year in Paris and sure enough he thinks he may have misdiagnosed the problem so 3 xrays later I have an appointment with a podiatrist on Thursday. The only good news was that I stepped on the scale there and even with shoes and jeans on I am 8.4 pounds down since last Monday's surgery. So yay for me! I think the horse pills may weigh a pound a piece though so I will have to watch it.

I think I will have my hubby build me a fire this afternoon. I may start a good book and take a nap. I am not feeling especially ambitious.

Ashley, keep up the low carb good work. All the practice eating low carb will really help you for after your surgery.

John, 30 pounds! You shed a toddler! Great work.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Laurel - so sorry you are having problems, but glad you went to the doctor to get things checked. Don't worry about the low energy - it comes and goes. And it gets better. Remember you are eating very few calories. Just do what you are doing - naps, rest, good books are all great! Got lots of healing to do. Hope you have a restful afternoon.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
