I just had my lap band on 10-10-08 and I am totally without an aftercare provider. Can anyone tell me if they experience alot of hiccups and will that cause slippage of my band.

If you have any other experiences that you may have had that are common with the first couple weeks after banding I would love to hear everyones feedback!! :smile2:

I have had my band since 2005 and I get the hiccups at least 3-4 times a week if not more. I don't have a clue why but it is a side effect. Here are some tips if looking for some. Buy a magic bullet (walmart) for soft or purred food it is asweome. I took normal low fat foods and pureed them mac and cheese, veggies, fruits, meats whatever. It is small so you make small portions. Protein Drinks I hated hated hated them, did i tell you i hated them. I found a drink called Unjury (has website) they have a unflavored (can mix with anything including food) chocholate an other flavors very good mix with milk and ice in the bullet. Also put in a tablespoon of Peanut Butter in a chocholate Protein Drink OMG awesome. Take your Vitamins I lost alot of my hair because I did not do it (it did come back) The big key is to exercise with your weight loss to prevent the flabbiness. Have confidence in your self. You did not gain the weight over night and will not loose it. Also a journal is helpful because you can look back and see that you are progressing. Nothing feels better than to put on a pair of jeans that are so big you cannot wear them. Just use common sense. There is really no secret. Good Luck :smile2:

My nurse specialist tell us if you're getting the hiccups you're eating/drinking too fast and need to slow it down, I find it to be true for myself.

I had my surgery on 9/10/08. I've started eating regular foods.

When I eat sometimes - it seems it gets stuck in my esphagus and gets

stuck in my throat. I tried to drink a little and literally almost throw up because the Water can't get down either. After hiccuping hard for several minutes, I can feel the food go down my eshagus and then things are fine.

It was happening a couple times a week, now happening daily or several times daily - HELP!!! Ideas?

When I get the hiccups I know that it's time to stop eating. It's my 'soft stop' signal. If I eat more than a couple more bites, then I KNOW I'm going to pay for it with a PB.

eating to fast and swallowing air seem to cause mine. Also it tells me that I probably should not take that last bite

I don't see my doctor until Dec. 1st. and I just am kinda clueless. like how big is the opening on my new stomach and how fast does what I eat on the full liquid diet go through the new stomach. I am terrified of streching out the my new stoma. I am not able to get 64oz of Water down the closest I have been able to manage is maybe 30oz. and I know I am not getting any where near my 900-1000 calories a day I feel I would have to eat non stop all day then how do you get your fluids in?

I just had my 3rd fill last week and since then I get hiccups non stop and they last for 30 to 45 mins before they stop. It gets tiring at times, :smile2:, but now at least I feel as though I have some sort of restriction and it is a sign that I'm getting too much air or eating way too fast.

Hello everyone,

I was banded on 11/3/08. Just three weeks ago. What kind of food are you eating? Give me an idea of your diet for a day after three weeks post surgery.

By the way, I have had alot of hiccups - some even in the middle of the night. No vomiting - what is pbing (is that vomiting). My surgeon was a great one in case anyone in Ft Worth is looking for one. Dr. David Kim who is now located in Colleyville, Texas. One of the top docs of bariatric surgery.

PBing is Productive Burping. I haven't had it much and Ive been banded for 9 months although I never had proper restriction until last week so this is all basically new for me. I have quite the case of hiccups right now which is why I'm on this sight (hey, I think they stopped! Apparently it just takes yelling at children to make them go away!)

As far as your diet, Unjury Protein Powder is good. They have a money back guarentee too. A really good drink is SlimFast Low Carb vanilla drink. It's really dumb but the Low Carb version has more Protein than the High Protein version. It's really good but for some reason it gives you bad breath. I still drink them because they have 20 grams protein and 180 calories. Good luck to you and congratulations on making such a positive life changing decision!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
