I'm so sleepy now. Why?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure why but ever since my surgery I get very very tired at any given time day or night. Mostly in the afternoon but my wife thinks I'm not getting enough Protein and maybe to many carbs???

I would have to agree with your wife about not getting enough Protein, it could also be lack of calories. But my guess would be protein, I had the same thing and was told by my Dr. to up my protein intake and I did and it helped trememdously.

I agree about the Protein. Also, do you take any Vitamins? You are probably lacking in several areas nutritionally. Invest in a good Protein Shake that you like, if that's your style, and get a good Vitamin. That should help you to feel more energetic.

Just my 2 cents.

How long ago was your surgery. If it was recent, like the past two weeks, it could be your body still getting rid of the anesthesia. My doctor said it can make you sleepy for up to two weeks after.

If it's not that, then what does your blood sugar look like? Maybe you are having big dips in your blood sugar and that is making you sleepy? Does it get better if you eat something?

I was banded on May 26, 2005 almost 20 days ago so I think all the drugs are worn off by now. I'm not sure about sugar levels in blood how would I check that?

I will be boosting my Protein the next few days and wil see how that works. Plenty of good sleep may be all that I need.

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK KIDS.

You are still recoveringfrom surgery. While you probably don't have the drugs in your system, your body still needs to heal.

I'd try boosting your Protein. Keep us posted.

Chicagoboy,

I think that for about a little more than a month after my surgery I was nappy like that as well. Once I started on real food I think it started getting a little better. At my one month postop visit I told my surgeon and he just said that was the anesthesia effect, not to worry, it would get better. My surgery was 4/8 so I am over two months out now and I feel just fine (not nappy at all) but I remember being so tired for quite some time. It will get better.

j.s.

I had surgery June 9 and still feel that way surgery put a burden on your body combined with no food its traumatic and your body is just dealing with it I have been extremely tired to the point where I just want to sleep mostly in the afternoon

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
