Ooo pool party now that would of been alot of fun :) I bet it was a blast and maybe someday I can make it to one of those :) Sure would be nice to meet all you gals.

Today it's been beautiful here and about 79 degrees. This morning I got up and made for the first time bread and Butter pickles. DH has grown so many cucumbers I had to do something with them so I remembered my grandmother making those and thought I'd give it a whirl. No idea how they taste yet they have to sit in the refridge for a while. After that took off and went to the flea market with DH. It was nice to get out of the house and walk around. I actually found some Tylenol Go Tabs! I'm so excited! They don't make those anymore and I've missed them. Having to take 7 kids chewables and only be getting 1/2 the strength has been yucky hahaha. Bubble gum and grape flavoring isn't that great so I can understand now why the kids don't like taking it. Anyway found them and bought enough to have some spares. DH got a wind catcher that looks like a Blue Jay for the back yard. It's cute...went out to lunch and back home. I have a batch of chocolate chip Cookies baking for a friend of ours who lost his mom this week. He always loved my CC Cookies when I lived next door. He was so funny, he would smell them baking from outside and come knocking on my door hahaha. Anyway I thought it would cheer him up a bit if I brought him over some later on today or tomorrow. I still have to make a run to BJ's wholesale to pick up the Breakfast stuff for the company I work with tomorrow. Its getting to the point where I'm hating having to do that all the time. I do it on my own time and then I'm responsible to feel 80 people. It's nerve wracking and when you hear people complain its worse. I just set it all up and leave now so I don't have to hear it. :youcandothis: I think that's it besides laundry for me today :welldoneclap:

Anyone watching the Olympics? I enjoy them especially the gymnastics and those guys on the rings. HOLY SMOKEs how the hell do they do that. Amazing!

Eileen were are ya girly. I miss ya. Hope all is going well. Are you counting down the days to Disney?

Oops buzzer just went off for the cookies...gotta get them before I burn em. (Kinda famous for forgetting them lol) hugs!

Good Morning Y'all!

It was 106 here yesterday, and hot! We are supposed to get some badly needed rain today, so I am hoping it hits us and cools us down to under 100.

Sherry - that must be a tough job "feeling" 80 people! Where do you "have" to "feel" them at? lol Just giving you a hard time lady! I wouldn't want to worry about getting all that stuff and doing it on my own time either. Can't you put it on someone with less seniority than you?

Pat and Diane - You had too much fun without me! Man that looks like fun! And Pat on the slide, what a picture! I'm proud of you Pat!

Kat - I have to do a stress test at the end of the month, and if all goes well, I will be scheduled soon after that. I have a wedding to go to on the 8th of Sept. (I think) and I will have to book after that as I can't miss this one!

Trish - I'm so glad your mom is doing better. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

Donna - Sounds like you missed a great party!

Jessica - I still can't believe you have done so well w/o even 1 fill! You rock girl!

Elieen - Miss your smiling face this weekend! Hope you are alright!

I hope I didn't miss anyone, if I did I'm sorry! I am trying to hurry it's time to get dressed!

Later!

Sherry, I love cucumbers, my favorite veg. Have you tried the cold cucumber Soup? I thought, yuk, cold Soup, cucumber on top of that, it was delightful! I so hope we're able to meet someday.

Diane, I had to read DH your description of Friday night, you made it sound like a resort . It was so my pleasure having everyone here. Donna, again, we missed you. My fingers are still sore from eating the crabs, one of these days, I'll learn to use the crackers instead of my fingers.

I wish you all could have been there.

I might be going down to the beach house today, hubby had a pool house built while he was down there this weekend, but he has to match the siding up to the cottage, so he's on a mission.

Later girlies,

Hey ladies! I go to the beach for three days and I miss everything!

Betty- I'm so glad you're ok. It must be a big relief.

Kat - In what town was the Connie Mack tournament? I always associate Connie Mack with Philly. I remember when my old hometown (Ewng) hosted the world series for 13-15 years olds. They got that honor for having won the tournament themselves years before; actually, when I was that age! It was so enjoyable, and fascinating to see the level of play at such young ages.

Trish - I'm so glad your mom is doing better. I know you treasure each day with her.

Sherry - I can't wait to hear how those bread n butter pickles turn out. My SIL makes them every year and gives us some. They make my DH's mouth water!

Jessica- I'm happy you survived your first PB. I haven't had one yet. Did you know what it was right away?

Eileen- glad you made it through the big IL visit! Do you feel better about it in retrospect?

Pat- Thanks for inviting me to the pool party. I was at OBX all weekend and didn't get your message until later last night when we got home. Friends of ours met us at the house and we partied as well. I"m glad you had such a great time. I would have enjoyed picking through those burnt popcorn crabs!

Diane- I felt like I was on that liquid diet myself this past weekend. I'm doing really well with my eating, but all this partying is making me (!) consume too many liquid calories. Oh well, I'll be back at school soon so I'll have much too little time to drink then. LOL

Where are the new girls?

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Donna

Donna - I knew something wasnt good right away. It felt like something was stuck in my throat and I would get a sharp pain in my chest/back. It didnt last long but it was long enough for me to learn my lesson!! it took me 8 months to have my first PB and I dont plan on having another one!!

Hello everyone. I'm new here but I have enjoyed reading all the posts, lots of information. I'm from NJ as well, monmouth county. I have gone for my surgical consult for the lap bad and am in the middle of my 6 month monitoring by my PCP. My surgery date is scheduled for November 24th, woohoo!! My surgeon is Dr. Borao, anyone else use him? I'm so excited yet nervous as well. I so look forward to being comfortable in my own skin.

Hello Y'all!

Welcome Jaculin and congrats on your surgery date!

I hope I have some good news! The doctors office called and had a cancellation, so my stress test has been moved to tomorrow at 2:00 central time, so y'all say a little prayer that I pass it! If I pass it then I am on to my surgery!

I am getting nervous already, I hope my foot don't act out and stop me from walking.

What's up with the Breakfast set-up, Sherry? Volunteering? If not, why is it on YOUR time? Sounds awfully unappreciated! Hope it goes the way you want it to though :tt2:

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
