Way to go, Leigha! Keep up the good work!

I haven't been checking in much lately, but I've been trucking along with my runs. I did really well on week 3, so I am moving on to week 4 tomorrow. I have a feeling this one will be rough, so wish me luck!

Liftingchic, great job! Good time, too! Take care of those feet and knees and keep up the good work!

I started week 4 this morning and it was much tougher than week 3, but I survived! I predict at least 2 weeks on week 4, lol.

How is everyone else doing?

I really want to do this program, but I am so afraid of dislodging or flipping something! I am 6 wks postop today. My surgeon told me I could do anything so long as there was not pain, but I still cannot shake the fear that something may not be "securely" in place with scar tissue, etc...Am I being too cautious? I guess I just need to get out there and try, but I am really afraid!

Ugh! I went to run this morning and my legs felt like logs! I ran a mile and stopped to get a drink and could not convince myself to start back! So I walked home. This was the worst running day since I started 10 weeks ago.

Yesterday, I did a 6 hour marathon cleaning job on my house, moved furniture, dusted everything, washed baseboards, etc. Do y'all think that could have effected my run? Oh, and I got stuck Saturday night so I was on liquids and mushies yesterday. Any ideas?:thumbup::mad::thumbup::thumbup::tt2:

Why don't you try walking it for a week to start and see how that goes. You can go to mapmyrun.com and map out a 5K distance and then walk it 3 times a week and see how you feel, if you feel up to it then start week 1. Good luck.

ok guys so currently i weigh 237 and i have been holding off on starting the couch to 5k bc my husband says that i need to be under 220 before i start any running program. i have now decided to ignore that and i got a friend of my to join me and we are starting the couch to 5k on monday. im soo excited. im having a hard time losing weight lately bc i hit a plateau. a few weeks ago i started working out hardcore and gained back 4 of the lbs i lost and it got me really discouraged, so i stopped working out. well i started back up this week and i feel good about it. i think i am just going to stay away from the scale as much as possible. i go in for my 3rd fill in 2 weeks.last month i didnt need one so i think bc im getting hungrier that i need one this time around. wish me luck with the couch to 5k. im kind of intimidated by the program, but hopefully it will work out some stress. lord knows i have alot of that right now.

Leigha, your 6 hr cleaning spree very well could have had something to do with it. Maybe your muscles were too worn out. Some weeks I have to do a couple of runs back to back (M, T, Th or T, W, F). I find that my back to back runs are much harder than the other runs (that have rest days in between). I think our muscles need a break in between workouts. Being on liquids could have been a factor too. More than likely, it was a combination of the two. Don't get discouraged...you are doing so great! shake it off and keep on trucking. Let us know how the next one goes.

Good for you! Don't worry about your weight. I am 275 and I'm on week 4. Remember to stretch before and afterwards to avoid muscle strains. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Well everyone, I haven't ran since Tuesday and I don't look to be able to run tomorrow either. I have had a terrible stomach virus since Tuesday night. I am so ready to get over this and run again. I have never had a stomach virus to last this long. I will probably visit the doctor tomorrow if I'm not better.

Keep up the good work everyone!

I am going to run in the morning, I have been so lazy, I'm not sure what my problem is. I will let you know tomorrow how I did. My son is running with me whether he likes it or not. Actually I bribed him, we were at the mall looking for him swimming trunks and I told him he could have a pretzel if he ran tomorrow and he went for it.

Note to self-- Next time you are going to bribe a 15 year old to run with you, make them run first and then get the bribe.:cursing:

I ran this morning, ran 2 miles and then walked the other 1.1. It was 79 degrees and 89 percent humidity. I may have to start running on the treadmill for a while till it cools off. I have to start my strength training, I have not been doing it. I'm not sure what the problem is I have a bowflex at work and plenty of extra time, I am just being lazy.

I went a different way than normal and there was a sign for a local gym offering crossfit classes. You don't have to join the gym to go you can pay by the class or the month, I looked it up on the internet and it seemed cool but expensive. ( www.premiercrossfit.com if you are interested ) They have a free class on Saturdays and I might try and do one.

I have been considering selling my motorcycle because I have not been riding it much so that would free up the money in my budget to take the classes. We'll see.

Liftingchic-- A 10K :scared2:! I am hoping to do well in the 5K in November.

Countrychic-- Hows it going?

GG-- Hows the stomach? I hope your feeling better.

Sassy-- Did you start walking? If so hows it going for you?

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
