It was an idiotic thread to start, I take entire responsibility for that. I started it becuase I was majorly pissed off with being made to look like I was picking fights in another thread, not becuase someone didnt want to take my advice. That was retaliation pure and simple, not necessarily forbidden on R&R but it was always going to end like this and I should have known it.

I too now have several people on ignore becuase well, I think they are passive aggressive types who will incite me to behave like this again, I think their situation is pretty hopeless and I no longer care to even try to help and because I think they're just incredibly nasty and I dont think I can trust myself not to keep dropping to their level. I'm really not very proud of some of my posts here. I defend my right to discuss this issue to the very end, but I agree it should not be about specific people.

Personal attacks are not appropriate anywhere, and there's been a lot of that from all sides. I can apologise to the board in general for how this turned out, I dont feel big enough to apologise to people specifically. That may be childish but I dont. There's people here I never want to hear from again and I've taken steps to ensure that I dont.

Now it appears this wont get back onto some sort of constructive discussion, I have my opinion, others have theirs and we dont know each other in real life and never will so it really doesnt matter that much does it? I think certain people know what I think of them and I know what they think of me so perhaps we SHOULD in fact end this thread. Stop trying to expain ourselves to each other? I dont want to hear it and I'm sure you dont.

Sorry mods, for this huge mess. I cant even pretend it was meant with good intent, but once I got over my vent, it was actually interesting there for a while.

Nah, I think its over Froggi.

I think we can CERTAINLY continue to discuss the issue, but not people specifically.

Personally, I think its a really really really important one. I think its a huge part of the journey to self enrichment. I'd like to keep talking about it but I think in this thread and in the next week or two, its only going to end in tears.

I've actually never ended a debate on such bad terms with people and I dont like it.

Wow what a mess this has ended up being. It was never my intention for everyone to get so upset but I just felt that some things being said on here were very harsh and I made my point as to why. I certainly do not condone people attacking the OP and her defenders.

I wasn't attacking anyone, so I will assume you were not talking to me there.

Chickie unfortunately when you put yourself out in the public eye, you will always have the weirdos come out of the woodwork. I have experienced that in another situation I was in.

LOL, why did I read that and picture someone, one hand on hip, the other tut-tutting me?

No one deserves the kind of abuse I got when that article came out. No one. I am not going to go into details, but it was ugly, and scary. No one, but no one deserves that. And what you wrote there is awfully dismissive. Kind of a "you get what you deserve for going out in the public eye" type thing. That may not have been the intention, but it's how I read it.

On your first point Chickie, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about a number of posts which came after mine that started to get a bit aggressive.

On your second point, I'm not the hands on hips, pointing finger type !:lol: I know I'm 53 yo but I'm a pretty cool one, just ask my nephews and nieces when I'm moving to the groove !!:angry:

And please please do not take it that I was having a go at you for going public. I did that with something else in my life and copped some flack for it as well. I think what you did is fantastic. We have a woman in my support group who did that last month in a monthly magazine (can't remember which) and I think it was the best thing she ever did. I haven't heard if she's had anything said to her because I haven't seen her since then. We definitely need positive stories out there about the band and I commend you for doing that. Once again congratulations to you and anyone else who have been successful with the band :( and good luck to those still trying (me included) :)

Cheers

Actually, after I posted I thought of the name of the chick I was thinking of. Jo Frost, you know, the chick from SuperNanny? I think she is kinda cute! So it wasn't a bad thing at all!

Whew, glad that got cleared up Chickie ! :crying: Super Nanny, now maybe I could be a little like that ??? I am glad to see you posting again, it's been too long. I think you have a lot to offer and I wouldn't let some of those people who attacked you previously put you off coming back and sharing some of your experiences. I for one do appreciate reading successful posts.

good morning everyone.

i've seen several requests to close this thread and / or let it die ...

the easiest way to do that is simply to not visit and post here anymore.

voila - no debate, the thread will die... simple.

What a pipe dream that was, eh?

Laurend- I am not sure that I agree with you fully on this one. I think that there are the overweight people that are lazy and the "skinny" lazy people. Have you ever heard the term "skinny fat person"? I know several "skinny" people who are 4xs lazier than I could ever be, eat brownies for Breakfast, can't walk up hill without taking a break and so on, those are the people that I find don't understand overweight people. They truely have it in their heads that overweight people are lazy over eaters. I know what you are getting at and I agree with most of it . I personally know that I am lazy about myself and I have been on a pitty party for a few years, on how unfair weight is. I am working on that and have come to the reality that it will always be that way if I let it. I have to change my way of thinking because the fat isn't going anywhere by being a baby and having a fit:biggrin2:.

I definitely agree about there being skinny, out of shape people! My brother and I are of the same parents and I'm short and dumpy and he's tall and skinny. So unfair!!! We're different blood types - I've always wondered if that makes/made a difference.

Oh, you're not agreeing with me? :crying:

That's it, I"m leaving

hangs around waiting for the *please dont go's"

..... well...... I'm waiting .......

Well, yes, it IS different for everyone I guess. I was never that hungry, just ate lots becuase I liked it. Heck, I didnt have a chance to GET hungry, I was such a piglet.

Why can't people understand sarcasm? ARG

I'm with you on the overeating. I had a great upbringing and have no idea what stupid emotions I'm supposed to be stuffing down with food. Annoying!!!

I'm going to blame it on the depression and needing the sugar to help my mood!!! (I really do believe this has a hand but I shove the sweets in my face, no one/nothing else.)

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
