Chickie I just read the article too and just assume they were crazy people who were emailing you because I don't know why else someone would be so abusive to you. You should be proud of your accomplishment and I understand why you would be a bit resentful to people but really we're not all like that here and I don't know one person here that is and if they do it by Pming you then lock it up,

I don't get emails postings now! brandyII-n

Okay I have to go to bed, I don't know what the time difference is in Australia, is it 12 hours, I suppose I could look it up on the internet but I'm too tired watch too many "jazz hands" today at a dance recital!!!

I'm sure many of you read that last post from me that I've just deleted and many will get it in their inboxes as I left it up for a while. I'm not ashamed of it, not trying to hide it, but really,

what's the fricking point? I'm not making any new points, just fuelling the arguments, its not necessary.

In short, I've blocked several who I think are either slightly insane, unreasonably vicious or actually trolls just trying to start trouble.

So if you dont like what I have to say.. BLOCK ME. Then you never have to deal with reality again.

And thank you for those who appreciate my musings on this weight loss game and have been big enough to say so. It means heaps.

I'm thinking she's a troll too Froggi. Nobody could really feel that heated up over something on the internet that didnt even happen to her, surely? I've had this experience with trolls before, they suck you right in, you think they're real people when in reality they're deliberately stirring the pot and having a great old time at the chaos it creates.

If not, I just dont get it . I accidentally posted on the mental health board (just as I have done on the 200+ board and the men's board, both quite inappropriately, lol). I will try to be more careful. But I dont really have much to contribute to a mental health board, nor to the men's board so I dont deliberately go there. So I dont get, if this R&R upsets our delicate flower Jasmine so deeply, why the hell does she keep coming back and posting here. That's why I think both she and BrandyII may be tolls.

I think R&R is brilliant. I'm a member of several other boards and at times, it has gotten awfully nasty when a debate has arisen, in the past its been politics and attachment parenting that I've seen it happen in. The boards have been destroyed by the fighting and bad feeling from one single thread/debate. That's a shame.

At least here, its all aside from the main boards and its not there in your face if you dont want to be involved. So I really cant figure why if it upsets Jasmine so much why she keeps popping up.

Its simple Jasmine. Turn off your computer and go and do something else.

Argh, and that's just totally uneccessary too. I'm just trying to have the last word, which is really pretty pointless.

Wow what a mess this has ended up being. It was never my intention for everyone to get so upset but I just felt that some things being said on here were very harsh and I made my point as to why. I certainly do not condone people attacking the OP and her defenders.

Also, I have not and never will have a problem with anyone who has been successful with their weight loss. Jacqui you and Chickie as well as others have done a fantastic job with the band and I wish to be one of you in the future. A friend of ours was banded a couple of years before me and she has lost 40+ kgs and is now a size 8. She looks fantastic and she said that she never planned to get to a size 8 but she just never stopped losing. She doesn't have much in her band now but is maintaining really well. I can't imagine people being so nasty about your weight loss. Human nature is a funny thing, remember the tall poppy syndrome, sounds like it is running rampant here. Chickie unfortunately when you put yourself out in the public eye, you will always have the weirdos come out of the woodwork. I have experienced that in another situation I was in.

I thought Nanook was someone new but now I realise it is Brandy. Brandy, I don't understand why you needed to do that. Unfortunately it doesn't help your situation because it makes you look dishonest to some people. I am happy to support you if and when I can, so please keep it real.

Take care everyone and remember the written word is always different to a F2F interaction and sometimes it's easy to post things we wouldn't say to someone if they were right in front of us.

I didn't read this thread, just the last couple of pages, but from what I read here and on the other thread, this is my take. Right or wrong, this is what I see.

Those who are not doing well, not watching well what is going in their mouths, not exercising or not exercising enough, they seem to be the folks that are all about head patting and supporting negative behaviors. Those that busted their butts and did the job have the attitude that they did it, anyone can.

Seems to me this is where the conflict, nasty undertones, and P&A posting is coming from.

We've already chased away one member (Laurend), perhaps it is time to let this die a big bad sorry death.

Wasa hit the nail on the head here. We need to agree to disagree and move on. No one should feel their feelings are hurt. We are not close personal friends. No one is betraying anyone. This is a messageboard and really shouldn't mean that much on a personal level. Sometimes it's best to step back and re-evaluate what's important. And what's said on a messageboard, in the grand scheme of it all, is NOT that important.

Move on people, nothing to see here!!!!!

I'm hitting unsubscribe to this thread. Seems like the conversation has gone all over the place and I'm finished with it.

I have enjoyed reading though. We are a varied lot of folk, no?

One closing thought however, I love seeing and hearing from people at goal. Your experiences are so very valuable, I appreciate that you share them.

Rock on.

Juli

Good Morning All,

Well to start off, no I'm not a troll. I've been a member since 2005, if I was a troll, wouldn't I have started up some mess earlier on? I guess I could say my behavior last night was fueled by 3 years of taking the higher road and moving on. I will do that now. Not to say I can't take the heat. I definitely can. But in saying something, I became exactly the type of poster that I dislike. For that, I truly am sorry. I will not appologize for the rest. I meant it. But I will try to not feed into this anymore. Have a good day, everyone.

good morning everyone.

i've seen several requests to close this thread and / or let it die ...

the easiest way to do that is simply to not visit and post here anymore.

voila - no debate, the thread will die... simple.

I didn't know we chased away Laurend. She was posting on this thread last night:confused:. Look, I've been successfull, too. I've fallen off the wagon and am in the process of dusting myself off. I busted my butt, too. Just like a reformed smoker, there is nothing worse than a reformed fatty. Even when I was at my best, I still had some class about it. What does it matter if we are still offering support for people not doing it OUR WAY? If these types of people offend you, just move on. Don't start a whole thread to knock them down even more. They will find their way, eventually.

Who said anyone had to do it a specific way? Nobody.

The bottom line is that you have to burn more calories than you consume, how you do it is completely up to you.

As I TRIED to explain already, there are two extremes posting here and nobody is really finding a balance here. The balance is not head patting for someone that does not want to watch what she eats and does not want to exercise. What is anyone to say? Every suggestion was knocked down and finally the admission of she just doesn't want to. So what is left to say?

Draw those claws back in, I was pointing out both extremes and how it doesn't help the person in the least.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?
      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
