Colonoscopy: Help!

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for a colonoscopy next week. Three years ago, I took something in a little bottle for cleansing. Not pleasant, but it did the job.

There were some polyps so I need another one this year (next week). The instructions involve a prescription that involves drinking about 48 ounces over a one hour period, twice. I can't do that. I called the docs office and the person answering the phone (receptionist, I presume) insisted that is the way it is done now. Period. No arguing with her. She is going to try to get the doctor to call me back.

Have any of you dealt with something like this? What did you do?

Just drink it slowly and you will be surprised how much you get down. I work at the hospital in radiology and the purpose of this drink is to cleanse the stool out of the colon so they can see the colon wall with the scope. If you have too much stool in the colon they will not be able to do the scope. After the doctor's office calls and you speak with them about your situation, I am sure you can work something out, maybe add a fleets enema also.Good luck and let me know-I'm interested.Thanks-Jessica

Not a lot of sympathy for bandsters.

My lapband office suggested two bottles of magnesium citrate. I talked to the nurse at the coloscopy office and she said that the prep just does a better of cleansing. Oh, yeah? So, she said I can start earlier in the day sipping and even the next morning since my appt isn't until the afternoon. OK. I'll try. But I don't want to be drinking and pooping for hours. I'l try to get it down as fast as I can.:scared2:

Sorry, I don't have any advise for you. However, I wanted to wish you good luck with the test. Take care.....

I started drinking earlier and drank longer than the spec sheet advised but got it all down. YUK!!! Sips of prep and spoonful Jello helped a lot.

Clean bill of health, No polyps. Go back in 5 years.

Thanks for asking.

Wonderful! Congrats! Glad that worked out for you! I noticed on your display of your fills you got one every month or two with very little adjustment each time. Is that the way your Dr. suggested to do it? I was banded 2/1/08. I went for a fill 8 weeks out, then again 8 more weeks went again. The first one I got 1.5 cc's. The second one I got 1.5cc's. It has been a month and I am still very restricted. I have lost 30 lbs and am wondering how fast you lost. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks-Jessica

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
