Compare the pain to a C section

Recommended Posts

I know this may seem a little silly but I guess I am concerned about the amount of pain or discomfort to expect. I was wondering if someone could compare the pain to the pain of having a C section? I have had 2 C sections so I know what that feels like. Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. :confused2:

I was banded on April 28th. I had next to no pain. I never took the perscription pain medicince or liquid tylonal ever. It was more of an uncomfortable feeling. I did have some gas around the 3rd day so I took gas X strips and felt better instantly. I was real scared about the pain but there really hasn't been much.

I agree 100%, this is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as a c/s was on me. I'm a whimp about pain so you can take my word for it. lol. I was just banded on Wednesday and haven't taken any pain meds for two days now, and even then on Saturday I only took a teaspoon of the vicodin twice, Friday I also only took it twice.

The lapband is 90% less pain than a C section. I was band on 5/13 and have only taken tylenol for pain . Just walk alot and take it easy.

There is no comparison whatsoever. It is like comparing a stubbed toe to a broken foot :0). Almost no pain for me and I never did more than 1 pain pill after surgery.

Really the only pain I had was if I would cough and even then that was manageable. I suffered a little more from being tired a few days after surgery.

I did have the shoulder pain which wasn't pleasant but the incisions were a piece of cake.

Great question, I too have had 2 ceasarean births and I did good, so I'm planning on doing great with the laporscopic surgery... but I was curious to see about all this gas pain and such that I've been hearing about. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I also heard that your body will recover faster if you exercise now, before the surgery, so I started today-30 min.s on the tmill, ya hoo baby... 13 days to go...

The gas was more of just an uncomfortable feeling for me than real pain. I was sore after the surgery and couldn't sleep on my left side for about a week, but it was very minimal and I took exactly one pain pill for it.

i had 2 c sections. the lap band is nothing compared to them. you dont even get any stitches or staples with the band. they just use tape over the incisions. relax it is practically painless.

THanks so much for all of your input. It puts my mind at ease to know that it is not even comparable. June 10th is the date!!!

Hmmm. I hate to sound negative but I expected my band surgery to be a walk in the park compared to my section but it wasn't. However, with my section I never took anything other than ibupofen and thought it was pretty easy. My surgeon said upper abdominal surgeries tend to cause more pain than lower abdominal surgeries because you use and move those upper muscles so much more. I don't think the two can really be compared, they're just so different.

Having said all of that, I didn't think surgery was bad either. My port area was very tender for a couple of days and somewhat tender for a couple of weeks. I did take my pain medication regularly for two days and then just at bedtime for two more days.

Nope, nothing like c/s. I had two of them, as well. With the c/s, remember how you couldn't stand up straight and had a hard time walking? Not the case with the lap band surgery.

Yes, you might have a hard time initially getting in and out of bed, and standing up from the couch because of your ab muscles being tweaked from where they attach the port, but that's about it. (We have one of those super deep Pottery Barn couches, and boy, that hurt like a mother...)

Truly, the only area that will hurt after the first 24-48 hrs is the port incision, which is dissected more than the other puncture areas (which is really what they are; they're not really even incisions).

I was able to sleep on my side by day 5/6 and on my stomach by the following week. Granted, I wasn't flipping around like I just jumped out of Cirque du Soleil, but I could do it.:cursing:

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
