Husband Eating Everything!!!!

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on 3/28 and came home yesterday. I am trying to be really good drinking only the shakes and Water and broth. But my husband decided that he wanted to eat pizza and ice cream and Pasta this weekend! I knew that this was my choice and that there would be times when I would have a hard time with things I can no longer eat. I just thought he would be more sympathetic with me for a while. Do I have a right to be annoyed by this?

Just talk to him about how you feel. Maybe he really doesnt realize how hard this will be for you. My Hubby was very good, but I had discussed all of the possibilities before the surgery. Maybe just ask him to not eat all of that in front of you for now. At least that would be a start. If he is unwilling to see your point of view after you talk to him, then YES you have a right to be pissed off!! Goodluck with the Hubby talk!

I agree you have the right to be ticked! I also agree that talking to him and telling him how you feel and your needs is the best thing to do (to start)

My family was pretty good for the first few days......and I have refused to buy garbage when I go to the grocery store....but things have been mysteriously appearring in the fridge (ice cream) and pantry...a GIANT bag of reese's pieces......

I've just decided that that's life....I guess I have to learn to deal with it. The rest of the world isn't going to stop eating junk food because I want to....there will be goodies at work a couple of times a week, just like always....sooooooooooo right now, it's pure will power.

I did tell my husband that he's going to feel bad when I'm banging hot and he's still chubby (hubby could lose 30 or so)......

Yeah, I think its perhaps a tad inconsiderate. I wouldnt have cared personally, I was so full of enthusiasm and excited about my new life that during that early post op period, those things held no attraction for me anyway, to be honest, I've NEVER missed them. But that's no the point, its the lack of consideration for you that is. I might make a narky comment or two, lol.

yeah...I think so.

But don't be tempted. Just think to yourself you don't need that stuff and also think to yourself that you do not want any complications like the band slipping causing the risk and inconvenience of further surgery which is exactly what happend to me and I was being careful.

Also have a positive image in your head about how nice you are going to look when you you start getting slimmer!

Good luck

Yeah you can be annoyed! My husband and kids were good for the first week or so but now........ well tonight, for example, he called me from Jack N Box drive thru and asked me if I wanted anything. :cursing: Ummm DUH NO!!!!!!! ANd when they got home they all plopped down in front of me and pigged out! Annoyed......sure I was.:tt1:

Yea, you have the right to be annoyed but as previously stated your going to have to come to terms with it. Sunday before going to the grocery store my DH announced he was hungry and wanted to stop at DQ. I told him there was nothing there I thought I could eat and he said I could get a cup of ice cream. I just gave him that "you've lost your mind" look. When we arrived I ordered a rasberry slush and took about 10 small bites with a spoon and threw the rest away.....he paid for it and I could tell it registered.

While at home I keep treats for myself that I pull out when the family splurges and I get tempted. Carnation instant blended with crushed ice and a scoop of pb is a treat!...or maybe just a SF popsicle, something for me. Hold your ground and you will find each time it is easier to say, naw, I don't want anything!!!

I'm not sure you should be annoyed. I know that when I was on the liquid phase the smell of baking chicken made my mouth Water, but I didn't expect my partner not to eat. lol

The world is and will be full of temptations. Home is a good place to practice.

I agree with the previous poster. This is your new life. It's all so new to you now but you'll have to accept that everyone will be eating lots of food around you. It's not that they're being insensitive, they're just doing what you were doing before the band. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for your support. I fell a lot better about it today. My husband has been absolutley fabulous throughout this whole thing. I think I need to make sure I am paying more attention to what goes in to MY MOUTH than his and I will be OK.

You have all been great!:crying:

I am kind of lucky I guess, my hubby will eat what ever I make. Not that he is lazy, I just don't like people in my kitchen. I am the cook in the family so its my domain and he knows better then to come in here and start making things. LOL

Best bit is when I am going through the 'rough stuff' he is out of town (military and he is deployed) so I will have lots of prepackaged meals for the kids (they can make them so I don't have to) and all of my liquid stuff has been made already. My freezer is stocked with two ounce ice trays full of low sodium broth, and my pantry is stocked of Protein Shakes and stuff.

So by the time he gets back I will be on a "normal" food diet. It all works out just fine in the end I think.

And yes, it was in my vows also that I can be annoyed with him at any time for any reason. He has learned to live with it :crying:

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
