Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to take a minute to say hello to everyone.

I had my surgery done on 2/14/05. To date I have lost

11 pounds and have my first fills scheduled for 3.17.05.

I am worried about the fill process and complications

that may arise as I know vomiting is not a good thing

at this point.

I would love to hear from everyone.

Thanks

Carey:)

hey carey!

welcome to the board!

a valentines bandster!!!

your first fill should be a breeze they only take a few minutes...you'll probably sit in the waiting area longer than it takes to get the fill!

once you get the fill you will go back to a mini post op diet...

liquids for 1-3 days

mushies 1-2 days

then try soft foods and solids

the key will be to CHEW CHEW CHEW and then CHEW some more! especially as you are testing your band out! take super small bites ESP. on the first bite or two...

if something hurts right after you swallow then you didnt chew well enough, WAIT till the discomfort passes, deep breathes help me, then attempt another bite, DONT pile more food on top of it till the discomfort has stopped!

if you do vomit...go back on liquids and mushies for a few days to let the swelling (in the banded area) go down.

and ask questions and do 'searches' lots of info here.

Michelle's advice is right on the money. And look at what's she's accomplished!!

Are you having problems now with vomiting? Or concerned about future possibilities? You do want to avoid it. It's usually caused from eating too fast and/or taking too big a bite. food should be cut into very, very tiny pieces and then chewed to a pulp before swallowing. (Think pencil eraser size.)

Hi Carey and congratulations!!! Nice to meet you. I was fearful of my first fill too. It really isn't too bad if they do it under flouro. They initially tried doing a blind fill in the office but after a LOT of poking they couldn't hit the port. When they put me under flouro (like x-ray) they are able to hit it perfectly and avoid a lot of extra poking. I did get food poisoning once since having the band. Vomit just would not come up thru the band but fortunately the nausea passed quickly. No harm was done to my band. I keep meaning to get some anti-nausea suppositories from my doc but keep forgetting. Its probably wise to have them on hand for just in case scenarios. Best wishes, Teresa

Hello. I just had my lap band done recently as well. On 2/16 to be exact and have lost about 13 pounds. I worry too about the fill. I don't believe I was informed well enough and when I seached on the web, I found out that every time you get a fill, you increase your chance of erosion. It may be just a small percent, but that matters to me. I honestly feel so much regret for ever doing this. I know some may view that as unappreciative, but that is how I feel. I want it out.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
