Facing up to the situation

Recommended Posts

And lord knows waking up coughing with Fluid in my throat isn't normal either. :rolleyes

And it is mighty scary too. Has sent me into an asthma attack in the past, pre banding, and you think you will never breath right again.

Nothing to play with or try to tough out.

I think all of us on here are very protective of our bands. And everyone seems to know not to abuse it, by being too tight ect.

Wishing you the best

I called the doctor and am going in on Wednesday morning. Naturally, now that I've done it, I feel 100% fine and like I could eat a horse. :rolleyes

But the nighttime is the test. If making that phone call takes my reflux away, that'll be the coolest.

Thanks for remembering! I went to the doc this morning and all went very well. He took out .4ccs and said I'd probably feel a big difference from that. So far it's hard to tell, too early. The real test will be tonight, and whether I can lie down for any length of time without reflux.

Alex, I hope this slight unfill does thr trick in removing your reflux but still gives you decent restriction. You did the rightthing for you and your band.

LOL! Hope you didn't have nightmares, Paula! :)

The night was wonderful. :) I often wake up briefly during the night--I'm a light sleeper and my kids make noise. But last night every time I woke up I realized I had snuggled down a little farther in my pillows and there was no discomfort or bad taste in my mouth. What a joy! This morning I was able to flop over and catch a few more zzzs without thinking twice, which privilege I'd been missing more than anything.

So it looks like the adjustment worked, and I'm a happy camper once again. Thanks for asking! :)

Well, some nights were worse than others. On a really bad night, if I wasn't propped WAY up on pillows, I'd get symptoms whenever I'd fall asleep (since my swallow reflex would stop). A couple of nights I had to move to a reclining chair to get any sleep at all.

Then there were nights when I'd wake up in the morning feeling just peachy and think everything was gone. But I still wasn't sleeping in my normal position and I knew I couldn't, so that had to be fixed.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
